Transmission Not Go Into Gear Problems of Ford Freestar - part 1

We were driving on a 4 lane road and my 2004 Ford Freestar lost all power to the transmission. It would not go in any gear. Drn31 nothing just revs up! we also had this problem a year ago and I flushed the trans and it seemed to work until now. All fluids were fine on the vehicle and linkage is attached. It shows no recalls on this van and I disagree as I can see one. Thank goodness my kids were not hurt as this could have been worse.

Driving home from store after getting dinner which is only 2. 2 miles away, made it 2 miles back home. Stoped at stop sign started to accelerate up a small incline, engine revved to red line. So I coasted to side of road, shut off vehicle, then started it to try and let it reset, it would not go at all or try to go into any gear only park will work. After letting it sit it will still not go into any gear or move at all. The transmission fluid is full and does not smell or look burnt, engine runs great and starts with no problems. I have seen that this is not the first complete made about this happening to this type of vehicle. It was made in may of 2005 and is considered a 2006.

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestar. While idling at a red light and attempting to make a turn, the vehicle did not accelerate. The contact turned off the vehicle and it would not engage in gear. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Transmission won't go into reverse and sometimes not in any gear. Engine stops running on highway with no warning. Nearly had an accident, had to be towed.

Driving at 70 mph in traffic on interstate, engine revved to 5000 rpm's and we had to coast through traffic to the shoulder and coast to a stop. Transmission would not engage in any gear. In motion and in drive on state route 309 the vehicle suddenly and without warning lost all ability to move. We had myself, my husband, my three daughters (17, 10, and 1) plus our new born son in the vehicle. The vehicle had to be coasted to a near by gas station but not before being very close hit in the back by a semi truck. The vehicle was placed in park, then drive again to see if the vehicle would go into gear. The vehicle failed to go into gear. The other gears on the vehicle were tested only to confirm the vehicle would not go into any gear or move. At this time Ford corperate had been contacted and they suggested we pay to have it towed to the nearest Ford repair garage. (we has just got the vehicle back 4 days prior to the inability to move, to have a power train sensor they diagnosed as bad because the power train light had been blinking and the vehicle had been jerking when put into drive. ) unable to have the vehicle towed to Ford, due to lack of funds from the previous week, we had to push the vehicle home.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle restarted, but would not shift into gear. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 192,000.

Stopped at a stop sign pulled off and van acted like it went into neutral gave it gas all it does is the rpms go up the van does not move. It will not move in any gear. It gave us no warning it was working just fine. Very disappointed.

Driving with the family, going 50 mph and the car cuts out completely dead with no warning. Had to coast into the median. Put car in park and restarted. Exactly one week later, car died while accelerating from a stop sign. Car would not go into any gear. Same issues with 04 and 05 Fords that are being recalled. 06 needs to be recalled too. Now I have to spend 3k on a new transmission because of a Ford documented issue.

While driving my transmission is sticking and jerking. After it does that it shuts off in the middle of the road. A couple of months ago I took it to the dealer and they said it wasn't the recalled part and it cost me $800. 00 to repair. Ever since then it has still been having little jerking and sticking issues. Today, July 13, 2012, it shut off again in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in north augusta, south carolina just like the last time. This is the fourth time that I have almost been in a wreck in my minivan because it just shuts off without warning you. I think I have been patient enough waiting on recall parts for my van. Right now I wouldsay that my van is a hazard to drive. The not changing of gears can and has happened at a variety of speeds, even at 35. Everyone with this van should be put in a rental vehicle at the expense of Ford until repair parts are available. I need my vehicle for work and personal.

Driving home from the gas station when suddenly the van stopped accelerating. We were going approximately 25 mph at the time. We were at a very busy intersection so we had to get out of the way quickly but the van would not go into gear. Any gear for that matter. We pushed the van out of the way because the intersection is high in traffic especially with 18 wheelers. The transmission fluid level was where it should have been. We couldn't get the van going so we had to get it towed home. We had no prior problems with the van going in or out of gear before this incident.

On 1/27/12 while heading out of town with my family on a busy highway at a speed of 72mph my van lost all power. The van was suddenly dropping speed with no prior warning at all. There were semis all around and thank the lord I was able to pull the van over to the side of the road out of harms way. Once on the side of the road I turned off the iginition and waited a few minutes before trying to start again. The van started but, would not go into gear at all. I had to call a tow truck which costs me money I did not have and now to find out that there are many others out there with the same make,model and year vehicle that are having the same exact problem and nothing is being done about it by Ford is crazy. This could have cost me and my family our lives and others that were driving around me. When is something going to be done. ?! to have Ford recall the '04 and '05 models for this exact reason, should make them realize there is something extremely wrong with this make and model vehicle. I purchased this vehicle for the family thinking of safety all along but am now scared to drive it once it gets fixed. This is death trap as far as I am concerned.

My husband was driving up the hill to our house when our van had a sudden loss of power. He managed to get on the side of the road and out of traffic. Now the van will not engage in any gear. If you put it in drive or reverse and hit the gas the engine just revs. We need a new transmission.

Driving on freeway at 60mph the van just stopped accelerating, the rpm acted crazy. We pulled too side of road and would not move in any gear. I have had routine oil changes and maintenance, there was no signs or warning of any transmission problems. Vehicle towed. I have been told my van needs new transmission.

The engine relved up real high and then there was no drive train. The transmission would not move in any gear. The motor was fine. Just no drive.

The van would not shift into gears. It had to be towed to Ford dealership service center. They said transmission is burnt (they couldn't figure out what caused it) and need to replace the entire transmission which would cost $3300. The van has been serviced regularly at local Ford dealership oil changes, check ups etc. . And it has less than 60k miles. And now they are telling me I have to replace the entire transmission suddenly? I researched this issue online and there are countless people filing complaints and claims and law suits with this transmission issue. I can't believe Ford makes transmission that doesn't even last 60k miles and they want customers to pay for the replacement? there should have been a recall or some kind of warranty cover for this. It's a nonsense! never buying Ford ever again.

On September 21, 2011 I noticed that my 2005 Ford Freestar was hesitating when I pulled out of a parking spot in front of my home. I was able to get to my final destination, a local supermarket, without incident but could tell that the car was not shifting gears as smoothly as I was accustomed to. On the return trip home, upon merging onto the expressway I typically take, my Freestar's engine began to sputter then immediately shut down. All power to the engine was lost. Power steering was lost as well making the car impossible to maneuver. The electrical system completely shut down and I was forced to come to a complete stop, shift into park and reengage the ignition. From that point on, until I arrived home, the Freestar would not shift beyond second gear. If I made an attempt to accelerate, again the engine would sputter and all power to the engine, power steering and electrical systems would shut down completely. I managed to get home that day by stopping and restarting my Freestar what I can only estimate to be 50 to 75 times. The most harrowing part of this experience was the lost of power and control without warning. Prior to this day, I had never experienced anything remotely like this with the Freestar, and then from one day to the next, I was helpless on the expressway expecting a fatal collision with an unsuspecting driver.

Without warning or noticeable symptoms our 2004 Ford Freestar minivan lost forward power while driving in traffic. The van would not go into gear, engine was still running but only revved when pushing accelerator luckily we were able to coast into a parking lot and park the car.

Driving down the highway at about 50 miles per hour in my Ford Freestar van and I lost all power for a second and the my transmission was gone. I barely got it to the shoulder on a busy highway. Engine was still running but it would not go into gear. I had to walk back (on the busy highway) to my residence and call a tow truck. I was lucky to get it to the side of the road without causing a wreck. Ford has a problem and they know it and wont do anything about it. This is a very dangerous problem they know about.

Last Saturday, July 23, 2011, my husband was driving our 2005 Ford Freestar (just over 86,000 miles) in reverse. He stopped, put it into drive and it would not go into gear. Not reverse, not drive, not first or third--nothing. Fortunately he was able to get it pushed into a parking stall and out of the road. Upon looking online to find out information regarding a transmission warranty, he discovered that many, many other people have had this same problem with '04 and '05 Freestars and that Ford's only response is to replace the defective part with another same, defective part. We were not hurt in any way, but it won't be long before someone is on a freeway or in an intersection and is involved in a serious--maybe even fatal--accident because their transmission is suddenly no longer functional. Ford needs to recognize this oversight and recall all '04 and '05 Ford Freestars. We have not been able to get the vehicle to a mechanic as of yet, but will be doing so this week. Cost of repair: unknown.

I was driving down the road and the vehicle dropped out of gear and loss acceleration. It would not go back into gear.

Transmission failure at 88,000 miles. This is apparently a known issue with these vehicles and there is a class action pending. No indication of any problem then suddenly the car will not go into gear and is dead in the water even though engine is running.

Driving a Ford 2004 Freestar 113k miles no previous transmission issue. Backed car out of driveway, lost gears when shifting into drive. Could not recover gear. No slipping gears or other symptom prior to failure. No prior history of transmission related problems at all. Towed to mechanics shop, recommended replace transmission. Replaced with used trans, $1800.

My 2004 Ford Freestar suddenly would not accelerate or maintain speed while I was driving. I was able to coast a few feet to a safe place to leave the car. The car was running, but would not move in any gear. There was no indication of anything wrong with the car before then. When the failure occurred, I did hear a sound lasting maybe 5 seconds, a bit like hissing. The dealership repair guy told me the input shaft to the transmission snapped. The cost to repair is estimated at $3,200. This occurred on April 24, 2011.

Driving on the tollway when suddenly the van's rpm reved up but the van would not go into any gear. The van was towed three times because of the easter holiday. We were told by Ford that the transmission imploded 0 we had to have the transmission replaced.

My wife was taking my kids to school when she pulled out of our drive way and drove about a 1/2 mile and the car just stopped going forward. She tried pushing the gas and they engine just revs up. Luckily a neighbor was coming up and took her home. We you start the car it will not go into gear. It won’t go in drive or reverse. We have not had any transmission problem up until this point.

I was driving my 2005 Ford Freestar van to work. My trip to work was just like any other day. No problems and worry free. I was at work pulling into my parking place and it was just like someone had put the vehicle in neutral. The vehicle will not move in any gear, or in any direction. This has been an issue for many people now including myself.

The contact called the manufacturer who stated they will send a letter to the local dealer on the contact's behalf. The current and failure mileages were 63,000.

Was driving at highway speed of 70mph when vehicle (2006 Ford Freestar) lost power. Pulled off highway and was able to park vehicle. However when restarting, transmission would not engage. The vehicle does not have any gears. There was not any warning nor any prior issues before this. After restarting vehicle, the check engine light came on on the dash.

2005 Ford Freestar - 2nd transmission failure. In March 2009 the transmission went out on our 2005 Freestar. No warning, like all others with problems, it was like it was in neutral & would not go into gear. Service tech informed us that 2005 Freestars have transmission issues/torque problems. Our warranty had expired, & we had to pay $3200 for new transmission. Complaint was filed with NHTSA. Thankfully, we purchased a warranty w/ the new transmission - because it has gone out again! van has been sitting at Ford dealership for over two weeks now, waiting on Ford's approval to replace transmission for 2nd time, due to same problem. I don't understand why Ford will not address this issue, or at the very least, repair the transmissions that are failing at no cost. I strongly encourage everyone to not purchase another Ford, I know I won't. Class action lawsuits have been mentioned, I would definitely be interested in participating in one! I guess Ford is not going to do anything until someone dies in a horrific crash due to this problem.

While driving at highway speed, it felt like the transmission went into neutral. The engine will rev and is able to be shifted into another gear, but doesn't move. There was no warning - no light or bell, no noises, no smells. We were forced to pull off the road and coast to a safe place with our 2 children in the car. There are approximately 80,000 miles on the vehicle. We have yet to repair the vehicle as it just occurred.

2004 Ford Freestar sel transmission problem. Problems with shifting, not going into gear or banging into gear, dark fluid(which usually means burnt out). Same as the other complaints. Do not see a recall yet.

While driving my daughter home from dance class, the vehicle completely lost power - the engine was still running but the car would not engage in any gear. I had to coast to the side of the road and call for a tow truck. The transmission has completely failed and needs to be replaced.

2005 Freestar 4. 2 after normal start up the transmission did not engage into gear. Transmission shop has the vehicle and is still providing repair estimate. No problems or indication prior. Maintenance completed regularly.
