4 Transmission Failure problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 11/06/2017

My van has a problem with water, that is when it rains the vehicle starts having problems with several components. (ie engine misfire, transmission fails to shift properly, door looks refuse to operate properly, among other weird things) this happens every time it rains. The problem as I have being able to trace it, is that the water that comes off the front windshield and into the plastic that covers the cowl area ( where the wipers are) drips on to the main electric wire harness connection that comes from the inside of the car and connects to the engine bay wire harness. As the wire harness connector gets wet, the vehicle starts acting up. I took the van to my mechanic but he was unable to find a problem, it was dry. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer and, to my surprise, they knew about the problem but told me I had to pay the repair because its covered on a technical service bulletin (TSB 06-14-10) but its not a recall. How can this not be a recall when the van is going along well and as soon as it starts raining, I start having drive ability issues, transmissions starts acting up, engine starts acting up, some times stalls, in general I have a vehicle that appears to be "allergic to water. " this issue happens any time it stars raining heavily whether on the highway or city street or my driveway for that matter, if its raining I have to take my wife's car because if not I know will have to be dealing with an uncooperative vehicle. Ps. I put a date on the "when did this happen" field but this is an ongoing issue.

5 Transmission Failure problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

On the way home from picking up my grandchildren, my vehicle was in motion but it started to slow down until it came to a stop. Towed to a shop for diagnosis and repairs. They determined that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. Cost was nearly $4k . . I am a senior citizen on a fixed income . . . This was a big hit to the pocketbook. Started looking on the internet and, from what I am reading, it seems that there was a recall on this but I never received any type of notice on this. Do I have any right to appeal to Ford for some type of relief after the fact???.

20 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

On returning home from an errand in our 2006 Freestar, my son attempted to put the gear into drive, but vehicle would not move into forward, nor backwards in reverse gear. This occurred suddenly without any warning. The car was then towed to porter Ford in newark, delaware and it is my understanding from the service department the transmission simply failed. After some research, I found this to be a very common characteristic of 4f50n transmission failures and there are an abundance of published complaints. Had our transmission failed in a tunnel or on bridge, it could have been catastrophic possibly triggering a major pile up. Clearly such a failure presents a risk to motor vehicle safety. In 2012 Ford motor company submitted a defect information report affecting the 2004 and 2005 Freestar (NHTSA action number ea09016). It is regarding a defect in the performance of the 4f50n transmission. This same transmission is also in 2006 and 2007. Why is this action not extended to other vehicles with this defective transmission?.

21 Transmission Failure problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Wehad to hav it towed back to the nearest town and to spend $3900 to have it repaired!!!@ months later it went out again?/Ford needs to step up to the plate and repair this transmission at no cost to the owners. I did alot of checking on this problem on the internet and found hundereds of articales about other people having this same problem wit there 2004 and 2005 Freestars. Do I have any recourse in this matter ? sincerely, herbert elofson.

22 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

Started out of an intersection and van stalled in the middle of the road. Coasted to the side of the road. No forward or reverse gear. Transmission gone. When I had a new one put in after $4000. 00 bill the mechanic told me that the one he replaced was not the original one. So this makes the second transmission failure for this vehicle. I have driven Fords all my life and have neve had a transmission to go out. If I had been driving down the interstate at 70 mph I might have been killed. Ford should be willing to replace these transmissions or reimburse thir cusomers for such shoddy transmissions.

28 Transmission Failure problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/14/2012

This is an amendment to complaint #10465607 filed yesterday. I was informed today by my dealer, herlong Ford in edgefield, SC, that it is total transmission failure. They stated that they could not tell if the transmission failure is due to the recalled part unless they tear the transmission down completely. This tearing down would be at my expense along with the towing of my vehicle to their dealership from north augusta, SC where it stranded me. The only options I have is tear down and repair or trade. Neither of these options are good for us. We just purchased my husbands truck and we are on a tight budget. I guess we will have to be the ones to take the hit for something that is obvious to anyone who has researched it that Ford is at fault and should be held accountable. I have to have my van for work and personal use. I do not have another vehicle to go to work in. Ford should be made to replace these transmissions completely at their cost. These vehicles are a death trap waiting to happen. It should not take this long to get the repair parts to the dealers. If there is a class action lawsuit out there count us in!! I guess it will take someone dying before anyone makes Ford step up to the plate and be held accountable for their defective vehicles! I was a loyal Ford owner but I am seriously considering changing my preference. Ford do the right thing and help your loyal customers out that bought your vehicle to transport their families in since you advertised it as a family van!! NHTSA needs to do something and fast or we are going to lose faith in the agency to protect us and our families! this many powertrain and torque problems are not a fluke but a very serious problem that needs to be made right. It's not hard to research this year make and model to find hundreds of complaints regarding the minivans shutting down in the middle of traffic! please help us soon!!.

But no parts- don't know when? bring 4-1-12 and leave it. I asked ,what will you do? I said was running fine till this- what if converter doesn't fix? sorry; that's all we can do. I asked; w/ the trans out why wouldn't you fix it? well we don't have the trans out -our mech knows how to make the change w/o removing it! if it is not right -then what? then it might cost you 2,000. 00 or more for a transmission! we are 80 plus years old- we live on little social security and public aid. . I am disabled with problems - our only means of transportation to doctors ,ect frequently. . I can't pay for this faulty trans and can't be w/o car, waiting till ???? the local trans shops seem to have no trouble getting these parts at all. I just have no money to pay them!!please help if you can.
