Accelerated away from a stop sign within a walmart parking lot and after about fifteen feet the vehicle began to slow down while depressing the accelerator. Attempted to accelerate and the rpm's went up with no propulsion. Allowed vehicle to stop then pushed in a parking space. There was never any indication that the transmission would fail via warning light nor was there a noise/bang/clunk etc associated. Vehicle just stopped accelerating. Had vehicle towed to shop and they said there were no codes indicating the failure and a transmission rebuild would be in order for $2000.
Driven car started to sound like broken axle, took to Ford dealer george wall shrewsbury,n. J. It cost a $ 150. 00 they held car for 2 days and told us that there was nothing wrong with the car. Noise kept getting worst frend for Chrysler listened to it and drove it he said it was transmission problem. I had new transmission put in car at cost of $3500. 00. I kept calling Ford with no luck. This vehicle was manufactured in june06,2006.
On the way home from a day trip about 20 miles from home we go thru a busy intersection, about halfway thru we lose all power like it has come out of gear. We are luckily able to coast thru. When we stop engine runs but have no forward or reverse gear. We take it for the recall and they haphazardly fix transmission, now less than 1500 miles later there is all kinds of noise and highway vibration from drivetrain. Ford says its not related, but how can that be. I feel its a matter of time before the transmission falls out again. Its not right that Ford has a known transmission problem with these vehicles but are not fixing them properly. It feels like a scam, they do as little as possible on their recall fix so they can soak you when you have to bring it back.

I was driving on the highway and began to exit when the car alerted to "check traction. " it started to make a loud noise, then began to decelerate and no matter if I pressed on the accelerator the car began to slow down until it eventually stopped. I was able to get myself to a safe area before it lost its ability to drive. I had it towed and was told by the auto repair person that it was my transmission.
Driving at 65 mph and auto starts coasting. Engine will rev, transmission has dis-engaged and will not re-engage. This is apparently a very common failure with this model. Transmission is out, no warning or noise; just gone. So many reported transmission failures, one has to wonder why there has been no recalls issued.
First and foremost I am a mother of three and use my van daily taking my daughter to school. This is my second time having to report transmission failure the first being in June/2010 we was driving and without any warning the van's transmission went out we had it fixed in July 19 2010. Then again 2/26/2011 I was driving about thirty miles from my home to visit my brother in the hospital I had got word he was not doing well from surgery and I did not make it I heard a noise and felt a surge so I pulled off into a parking lot and called my father that was at the hospital to come and pick my daughter and me up. He checked everything under the hood and did not see a problem. My husband showed up a few hours later in which he heard a noise in the transmisson when he went to put in gear it started rolling there was nothing it had done went out. So we called the wrecker man to come get it we had done spent $45. 00,$50. 00 and now this cost $90. 00 on tow bills. I will not know until later this week what went out. I got on the internet last night and day after day someone is reporting this same problem here we are. In less than a year ours has went out twiced what will it take before Ford does something to fix this losing a family member or a whole family. We still owe on our van and with the economy was hoping to pay it off and enjoy life without payments for a while but who knows. I do not feel safe even getting in this vehicle I just feel it will take a death before Ford wises up and does something this is so sad I reported my problem in June of last year hoping to get something done and now here we are again 8 months later with reports coming in everyday and nothing is being done. I am contacting other media to try and get word of this unlike Toyota trying to say this or that there is too much information about these Ford Freestar transmissions reports page after page when you put 2005 Ford Freestar in the search. So why hasn't something been done before it is too late!.
2006 Ford Freestar, transmission gone without warn or noise. Just quiet stop working during driving. Unreasonable! the weather was snowstorm. I am not happy after have been with Ford for 30 years. Ford should take responible the problem. Please help us or I will not buy another Ford. Thanks.
I have a 2005 Ford Freestar. We bought it in 2008 and enjoyed driving it all over texas but the rear brakes have always has made a moaning sound no matter what is replaced and the front brakes rattle. Dec 2010 replaced the water pump, alternator, ilder pulley and belt tensioner before I found the solution on youtube that it was the camshaft sychronizer that was making a shrieking noise. Then without warning three weeks later the transmission complelety failed at a traffic signal 83230 miles, left my wife standed in rush hour traffic luckily it wasnt at night or my kids in the van. No cause could be determined by mechanic other than tranny pan was full of metal and had to be completely rebuilt for $2000. I have owned an f150, aerostar, and explorer all went over 180,000 miles and still working when I sold them. The Freestar has been a let down. Next minivan will be Nissan or Toyota. Hopefully Ford will recall the tranny on these van since most of the comments I have read experince tranny failure around 80k miles hopefully no one get hurt because of it.
In December 2010 I was at a stop light, when I went to accelerate the car wouldn't move. Had it towed to a transmission shop and they rebuilt it. It has gone back 3 times due to continuing of problem and the check engine light keeps coming on after they turn it off. Since last visit, now the air bag light is on, check engine light is on and the horn no longer works when pushed but it ocationally has gone off for no reason. Still have problems accelerating, is sluggish, and makes a horrible noise. It needs to be smogged but will not pass due to these issues.
Wife was driving the 2005 Ford Freestar van and came up to a stop light. The light turns green so she stepped on the gas and the van moved forward a few feet and then nothing. Thankfully she was able to coast to the side of the road, where she put it in park and back into drive and the van would not move. The van made no noise to indicate anything was wrong with the transmission.
My 2005 Ford Freestar lost power to the wheels without warning. The transmission failed while driving with my 3 children in the car. The vehicle only has 85,000 miles on it. There were no noises, lights, or other indication of a problem prior to failure.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. While driving at 25 mph, the vehicle began losing power but the engine did not shut off. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and there was an abnormal noise. The vehicle would not respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated the problem was the automatic transmission. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting a formal diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileage was 93,000.
2004 Ford Freestar van transmission failed without warning. Cruising at 50mph and started up incline, no noises, no warning and transmission failed leaving me without power. Luckily was able to coast to a safe spot.
2004 Freestar with a 4. 2 liter engine. Transmission failed without warning ie dashboard light, noises, etc. Failure applied to all forward gears as well as reverse. The engine would rev when gas applied but no pull whatsoever. This happened at 39k while the vehicle was still under warrant and again at 112 k.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 65 mph up hill he heard a noise as if the vehicle was in neutral gear. He stated that the vehicle lost power. The contact took the vehicle to a local repair shop. The local repair shop stated that the vehicle needed a transmission. The contact stated that fluid spilled onto the manifold he stopped. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to another repair shop near his home. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 75,000. Updated 9/22/10 the consumer stated a fire erupted and fire trucks were called to the scene. . Updated 09/24/10.
2005 Ford Freestar completely lost power to the drivetrain while traveling in a 45 mph zone. There was no warning light or strange noises coming from the vehicle prior to the failure. My wife was lucky to have gotten the vehicle out of traffic before she was rear-ended which would have obviously caused serious injury. The vehicle has only 62,000 miles on it and the vehicle has been meticulously maintained, including a transmission flush at 42,000 miles. Ford dealership diagnosed problem and determined that transmission needed to be replaced. There numerous complaints of transmission failure with this make/model with other Ford owners.
2004 Ford Freestar - transmission went out without any warning - I was turning a corner and heard a loud noise - the check transaxle light came on and I could not get the car to move - took to auto garage and they said they would have to replace but that they have seen this over and over with the 04 Freestar. This went out in the middle of an intersection on a busy street with my 3 kids in the car. This is a dangerous problem that Ford should address!.
Driving our van on the highway, it suddenly made a revving noise but did not accelerate. This happened again, and then when my husband pushed the gas pedal, the van did not respond. Luckily he was able to steer it to the side of the highway. No warning, no engine light, and the transmission was suddenly not working at all. Very scary and we feel lucky it didn't cause an accident, with our two children in the van. This very thing has happened to hundreds of other people according to internet reports. Ford dealership estimates repair at $2500-3000 to repair or replace the transmission. For a van with only 64,000 miles on it? this puts us in financial hardship and I am scared it will happen again.
On the evening of October 15, I was on my way to meet with several of my children's teachers for parent/teacher conference night. I had just left home and made it a few blocks when I heard this loud grinding type noise. At that moment, I was at a stop sign getting ready to make a right turn. This was unusual considering I had been driving my van all day. I hadn't heard any noises prior to that. I put my vehicle in park and I heard some more grinding type noises. Every time I changed gears, I would hear grinding. I put my van back in drive and tried to accelerate but my van would not move. I put it in reverse in an attempt to drive it backwards to get it to the curb and it would not move in reverse. I put my van in park and took my foot off the brake and my van started to roll backwards. I had to quickly reach for the emergency brake to keep it from moving. My van was on a slight hill and with the help of my uncle and husband, we were able to coast it home. When we finally made it to our driveway, it still rolled backward on a flat surface. About 2 months I took my van to a coleman taylor transmission auto repair shop for a diagnostic and they told me that my transmission was fine.
We were driving our 2004 Ford Freestar on I-90 outside elgin, IL on August 10, 2009. I thought I heard a pop or engine noise and the car suddenly started losing acceleration and started coasting. We pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned off and checked the engine. The car would not move in forward or reverse when you pressed the gas. We towed the car to arlington heights Ford in arlington heights, IL. They checked and told us that the transmission was shot and it would need a new transmission. We needed the car so we paid $3158. 43 for the repair ($2119. 29 for parts and $1039. 14 for labor). We did not receive the old part.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. While driving 55 mph, the contact heard a thumping noise. The transmission switched into neutral and the vehicle suddenly stopped moving. The vehicle would not restart and had to be towed to the contact's residence. The dealer stated that there was no recall and they were not performing any repairs under warranty. The contact would have to pay for the repair. The dealer also stated that this was a common issue with these vehicles when they reach 35,000 miles and above. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Leaving work one evening put the car in reverse backed up, put the car in drive and no movement. The van sounded like it was in neutral. Tried reverse again, no movement. There were no warning lights on, no noises prior, it just quit! the van has 69,000 and was purchased as a certified pre-owned vehicle from a Ford dealership. I spoke with a service tech yesterday and he stated he wasn't aware of this being a common problem, which is ironic to find so many of the same issues posted here and elsewhere. Said the van was only warranty for 3 years/36,000 miles under the powertrain warranty. Estimated cost to replace was 2,300 for Ford service center to rebuild(comes with 12mo/12,000 mile warranty) or 3,600 for a Ford manufactured rebuilt transmission(comes with 3year/36,000 mile warranty) the van has not been fixed as I don't have the money to repair.
I was driving on the highway with my 2 children in November 2008 and all of a sudden with no indication of a problem my van came to a stop. No lights came on or no wired noises happen to let me know that something was going on. I had to have my transmission rebuilt. In which I paid $2300 for.
