The engine repeatedly sputtered and stalled on my way home during a bad rain. It runs with no problems during dry weather, leading me to believe there is a leak causing an issue.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the engine stalled. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Djr.
In good weather without warning the engine stalled in traffic. Restarted, but the engine ran extremely rough. Also the transmission would not go into reverse. Managed to get to a independent service shop. There the technician found water in the pcm. Dried out pcm and car ran fine. Then the transmission light came on. Now they found water in the transmission connector. Two weeks later the car would often not start, and when it did the transmission would not shift out of first gear. On our third visit they replaced the throttle position sensor (tps). One week later same symptoms, this time tps and mass airflow sensors have failed. The problems are all related to the wet pcm! recall this car, now!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving at various speeds during rainy weather conditions, all of the lights on the instrument panel illuminated and the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle did not restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
While driving through town at 30 miles per hour, engine stalled, lost power steering and speed control. The engine light came on and the transaxle light was blinking. Thank goodness I wasn't on the highway. I believe one bad part had been replace with another as the torque converter part had been replaced and here it was doing the same thing all over again less than 1 year later. I figured I had no options, what could I do, had it towed. I just feel if they are using inadequate parts to replace bad parts the danger continues to apply and they should be held accountable.
Was in a 30 mile per hour speed zone came to a caution light and had to make a right hand turn on a very dangerous corner. . . . Many tractor trailers use this turn, while making the turn, engine stalled and was hard to control steering with no power. Managed to pull to side of the road when several tractor trailers came around the same corner. Had I not been able to move over I would have been hit as they would have had no where to go, just a 2 lane road. Car started but when I tried to move it, it went about 20 feet and stalled again. Had to call a tow company. Torque converter has already been replaced once at approximately 99,900 miles. Flashing light on dash says to check transaxle. Not fixed as yet. . . Code p0715 came up on the tech machine, turbine speed sensor check fault. I have checked for these codes and it seems that Ford sent these vehicles off the production lines with these problems to begin with. I find that nothing ever gets done until someone is killed or severely injured. It's a sad world we live in that life has to be lost before manufacturers are made to correct what should have been fixed before leaving the plant.
. In addition to causing an engine to stall, which may or may not then restart, transmission shift poorly, the vehicle has had erratic power, almost every time there is an inability to shift the vehicle into either forward or reverse. On start up no matter the temp of vehicle the idle rpm is higher than normal in park ! it has been service many many times. . Now our transmission fluid looks like pepto bismol !!.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact stated that water penetrated through the windshield and the engine covering. The engine covering clips failed to sustain and the water penetrate the power control module, causing the engine to stall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 40,000.
This van has a bad computer board (pcm) due to rainwater that is allowed to funnel under the hood due to poor design of the hood. It is also possible that the transmission is being affected by this as well. The vehicle just stopped shifting into gear, followed by all sorts of electrical problems. The mechanic said the pcm was full of water and would need to be replaced. There are numerous message boards on the internet discussing this exact same problem with Ford Freestars ranging from 2004-2007 model years. Ford needs to issue a recall on these vans as this causes the engine to stall and this could happen at any time - in the middle of a busy intersection, on the highway, etc. This could have devastating results if it happens at the wrong time. Also, from what I've read on these message boards - this is a repeat problem!!!! once you fix this you will have the same problem in a year or two. Nhtsa should do some research outside of formal complaints filed as I'm sure most people do not know the proper route to go. A simple internet search (that would allow you to contact or respond to individual reports) would direct you to hundreds of people with the exact same issue!.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 50 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The engine restarted and the contact was able to resume driving however, with consistent stalling. The failure occurred only after rainy weather conditions on four separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the cam shaft sensor was replaced due to water leaking into the pcm which caused a shortage. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 95,781.
Our 2005 Ford Freestar loses power and engine stalls, this has happened 4 times within 6-9 month period and we have taken it to a Ford dealership each time. Each time a different code comes up, we have the work done and ultimately it happens again. This happens and no power to get off the road, expressway etc. A very dangerous situation with 2 children in the back.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions;the engine stalled without warning. The engine restarted after several attempts. However, the vehicle failed to operate in the "drive" and "reverse" gears. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician was unable to duplicate the failures and replaced the alternator. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three separate occasions for the identical failures in which the alternator, mother board and transmission seal were replaced. The failures continued and there were no resolutions. The failure mileage was 20,000. The VIN # was not available the current mileage was 26,000. Js.
