Braking issue. While driving, twice last winter, I had to brake suddenly and I lost braking ability to stop in a timely manner. The pedal goes to the floor and is very slow to stop. It takes multiple times of pumping the brake to get any pressure back up to brake. I've had multiple shops look at it and have replaced the brakes themselves and they do not find anything wrong. The last shop had to bled the brake lines and found air bubbles in the lines that need to be bled out, which seemed to help. Fortunately, I have not had any accidents when this occurred but have come close.
While driving my 2009 Ford Fusion at 25 mph, I came upon stopped traffic. The road was wet and a little uneven as I was crossing a short overpass but there was plenty of stopping distance. The abs activated. I held the brake pedal to the floor but the brakes did very little to slow the car until the car ran into the stopped traffic. At 25 mph, there was no concern that the car would not stop in time even with the abs activated, but it did not. There was no skidding or sliding of the tires. I believe that the abs module just did not apply enough pressure to the brake lines. I think this falls under pe 16-017.
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. When the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake line needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred numerous times. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 107,919.
