On several occasions, after abs has engaged during braking, the brake pedal has gone soft, nearly to the floor. Required braking distance is greatly increased, as is the amount of foot pressure needed to bring the vehicle to a stop. This has happened while braking in snowy conditions, and also when hitting a pothole while braking. All instances occurred under 30 mph. This problem has not occurred during heavy braking under normal operating conditions, only when the abs system is activated. No brake warning lights have turned on. For reference, the latest incident happened six months after replacing all pads, all rotors and both front calipers.
With antiskid activated trying to stop in an expedited manner from 30mph brakes lost all pressure. Pedal goes to the floor. With normal braking they work just fine. Tested brakes on a gravel road and speed does not matter. When the antiskid tries to stop the car you loose all brake pressure and car continues to travel forward with no braking. Emergency brake was the only thing that stopped the car. There is no brake warning light on at this time or during the event.
Driving the other day I lost brakes and almost had an accident with another vehicle. The brake light came on along with the service light. Which is still on. Drive home variously in low gear when needed. When in low gear I heard a constant grinding noise. Still patiently waiting on my takata air bag replacement thru Ford. This vehicle is new to me and I haven't made my first payment yet. Only has 40k for mileage. As is common with most Ford cats. I asks experienced surges in the vast. My lay cast was an 04 taurus.
When I was trying to brake on some light ice to make a turn it locked up on me and was unable to come to a stop. . . Since that incident I have soft squishy brakes , to stop it goes almost to the floor. , I have had brakes checked out there is nothing wrong with them. . Said it was the abs system needing to be checked out and that Ford is aware that there is a safety issue on this 2009 Ford Fusion.
Hit the brakes coming down a hill on wet surface, had a abs event and the brake pedal went to floor. Had to pump brakes to stop . Now constant soft pedal. No brake light or abs light came on or have since come on. Had master brake cylinder replaced was not the problem. Researched online and found information saying the abs system was malfunctioning and many other people have the same problem.
