1 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2020

My daughter rear ended another vehicle and pushed that vehicle into another vehicle because her brake pedal went all the way to the floor and failed to stop her vehicle. She repeatedly mashed the brake pedal with no response. The air bags should have deployed and did not. She was driving at about 45-50 mph on the highway and traffic stopped in front of her. She was driving carefully because it was in the city and had been raining. She was not following too closely or going too fast for conditions. Her brakes failed. Even though Ford says this vehicle is still safe to drive until the parts come in for the recall, it is not. This is a dangerous vehicle to drive until Ford can do the issued recall for the hydraulic brake valve. They still don't have the parts as of the day I'm typing this complaint. Recall number 19v-904. I have made state farm aware and they are performing investigations. I have hired an attorney because my daughter is not at fault. I have reported the incident to Ford and they were not helpful. She was cited in the accident and there are claims for injuries and damages.

2 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2020

Being in motion the 15 of November 2020 I experience an extended brake pedal failure same as stated in the January and October 2020 Ford recalls. Because the high risk of a crash my car was towed the 18 of November for repair to mccoy mills Ford in fullerton, CA (phone 714-5265501, invoice 986572) where the service advisor daniel inzunza contacted Ford motor CO. Who did not approved any repairs because the required spare parts of the recall will not be available until first q of 2021 and spite of that Ford motor CO. Did not authorized a rental car. Complaint I require an assistance of a rental car because the spare parts that were going to be available in 1st q of 2020 won't be until 1st q of 2021 and I can not drive mine due the high crash risk for the present extended brake pedal failure.

3 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2020

My husband was driving at about 35 mph down a two lane road in the right lane and he went to stop at a stop light and when he hit the brake petal, it vibrates 4 times and then the petal went to the floor and the brakes stopped working and he could not slow down or stop the vehicle. Since there was a pedestrian to his right on the sidewalk and the vehicle in front of him was smaller than his car, he chose to drive in the middle through the two lanes of vehicles. He ended up hitting 3 other vehicles before our car stopped. After he got home, we checked to see if there were any recalls on the car since we were confused why the brakes failed out of nowhere seeing as we had recently put brand new $80 brakes on our car and found out that there had been a recall on the abs system last January, but there is not a replacement part yet available until November. I truly believe that this accident was caused due to faulty parts that Ford made this vehicle with and now my car is totaled and I did not have collision so because of the faulty abs system, I now have no car and damaged 3 other people's cars. Thank god this accident was not fatal and no one was injured too badly due to the unsafe abs system in the 2009 Ford Fusion.

4 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2020

The vehicle's brakes randomly cease working. This has led to several near collisions, including at least one high-speed incident where the brakes failed on the interstate and nearly caused a serious crash. The dealership has known about this recall for nearly a year and has yet to fix the issue. They claim they don't have the parts and claim the issue needs to be taken up with the manufacturer. When contacting the manufacturer, they claim it is the responsibility of the dealership to fix it and will not help either. It is wildly unacceptable that manufacturers and dealerships can produce and sell cars with brakes that randomly shut down completely and not fix the issue. This is no small matter, brakes that spontaneously stop working are one of the most dangerous issues that can happen to a car, and such a issue should be addressed immediately. Before the recall was made public, the dealership charged us on two separate occasions to fix the brakes and claimed they were completely fixed. We are caught in a vicious cycle of both the dealership and the manufacturer refusing to help and claiming that it is the other one who can help us. This is a known and public recall (NHTSA recall number 19v904), and we should not be terrified of dying in a car crash because our brakes randomly go out and the responsible parties keep dodging responsibility. We have made multiple attempts at contacting both the dealership and manufacturer to no avail, so we are writing to the NHTSA for assistance in this matter.

5 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2020

Today I experienced a frightening degree of brake failure. I was on a freeway off ramp which was on a downgrade. As I was going over some minor bumps in the road, I applied my brakes and lost about 80% of the brakes. I heard a strange noise and thought it might be the anti-lock brakes. I had to push my foot way down to the floor to stop the car & it did stop. This failure continued for about 5-7minutes while driving in stop & go city street traffic. I was ready to pull over at a safe spot when I noticed the brakes returned to full power and continued to work properly for the last 10 minutes of my drive. Now I'm afraid to drive this car, especially with children or passengers. I received a recall notice earlier this year regarding the anti-lock braking system on my car. It was dated January 2020: 19s54 / NHTSA recall 19v-904. I've researched this problem and see that it has caused accidents already. When I called Ford about this notice, I was told it was only an alert and they'd let me know when parts are available. That was 9 months ago. The notice said parts were anticipated to be available the late first quarter of 2020. Now that I've experienced this deadly hazard, this is not acceptable when the possibility of a crash exists due to brake failure! I want to get my car repaired now. Please tell me how to go about this and prevent any future accident, injury or death.

6 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2020

While driving my Ford Fusion the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the car kept moving. I was able to pull the emergency brake in time so that I did not collide into the vehicle that was stopped in front of me. I have contacted my Ford multiple times to have car repaired due to recall and my recent brake failure issue and they have told me that they do not have a fix for my car.

7 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while reversing the vehicle out of a driveway the brakes failed without warning. The vehicle was towed to lynch Ford Chevrolet inc. ,410 us-30, mt vernon, IA 52314. The dealer refused to run a diagnostics. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 160000. Lj.

8 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2019

Brake failure, while driving my wife's 09 Fusion the brake pedal went to the floor when stopping and hitting a pot hole. The brake pedal went all the way to floor before being able to slow the veh. The brake pedal did not return to normal until a couple days later. My wife uses hand controls which did not affect the driving in any way but has me concerned as my wife is in a wheelchair and can't put excessive force on the brakes if they were to fail like that. I tried pumping the brakes but it didn't resolve the issue, nor did pumping the brakes while the veh was turned off.

9 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

Brakes fail and go to floor randomly despite repairing every known part associated with brake failure. I have been forced to drive onto the road shoulder twice this week.

10 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2018

Hydraulic control unit failed on the abs system. Brake pedal pressure was lost and brakes went to the floor and failed. This seems like a very common problem on this model based on reported issue with this car. Brakes failed on the road while being driven. The car would stop but pedal was almost to the floor. Car has been repaired at our expense.

11 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

2009 Ford Fusion brake failure was experienced while driving 30-40mpg on an exit ramp that was in a curve during the rain and during applying the brakes, the abs engaged unexpectedly and the pedal went to the floor. The braking distance increased roughly twice the normal required distance to come to a stop while requiring significantly increased pedal pressure. Pumping the brakes twice did not help stop the car or to build pressure in the pedal. I was successful in recreating the issue while stopping over grass in the road causing abs engagement or over gravel on pavement to cause the abs engagement with the results being roughly 40% of the time the pedal goes to the floor. To get the brake pedal to return to normal I quickly and harshly jab the brakes many times causing the hcu to become unstuck only for the issue to return during the next few tests. This is my 2nd faulty hcu!!! please recall this safety issue.

12 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2018

Occasionally when the vehicle hits a bump or pot hole the brakes immediately becomes soft and loses power to stop the vehicle. It repeats itself and one has to slow it down with engine braking. After a day or two it becomes okay again. Till next time and it happens again. There seems to be apparently nothing wrong with the system, everything checks out and we are not able to duplicate the events on demand. When the brake fails it is a major safety risk and can cause collision and may result in fatalities. There are many (at least 300) reported issues very similar to what I am having. Ford has not recalled the vehicles to fix this major safety fault. By pumping the brakes we are able to stop the vehicle but it takes a longer distance to stop. Last time it happened was August 20, 2018 and stayed soft for three days and is now working fine.

13 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

Brakes have failed twice randomly. Coming to a stop at stop sign and stopping at yellow light (this one was scary). Abs seems to pulsate back and then pedal goes straight to floor. First time I was able to pump brakes back up and drive to dealer. They said nothing was wrong. Second time I was unable to pump back up. After sitting for an hour or so the brakes were working again. I took to dealer for second time and again, nothing wrong. Clearly there is something wrong and huge safety issue. I don't want the third time it happens to actually be a crash! very unsafe and do not understand how they say nothing is wrong.

14 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2018

While approaching a four way intersection stop light at approximately 20-25 m. P. H. In a 45 m. P. H zone on a highway headed into the city the brakes were applied and while doing so also hit a pothole simultaneously. The brakes failed to engage in any capacity. Released pressure from brake pedal and then reapplied brakes at which point the brakes engaged and stopped the vehicle but not before overshooting initial planned stop point by 6-8 feet into the intersection. With passenger as witness. Pedal now feels fine and brakes work normal. A similar situation occurred 3-4 months prior and afterwards the pedal felt spongy but went away on its own. After this most recent incident a web search turned up others having this problem that was identified as a possible bad abs hydraulic control unit. Accident was avoided but could have led to hitting vehicles entering intersection. Web results also revealed that similar incidents are being investigated by the NHTSA.

15 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2017

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving 35 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floorboard and had to be pumped several times until the brakes engaged. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact stated that the control module was replaced, which was unrelated to the brakes. Several days later, while the contact's son was driving 40 mph, the brakes failed once again. The driver had to pump the brakes several times until they engaged. As a result, the contact's son rear ended another vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The contact stated that north brothers Ford (33300 Ford rd, westland, mi 48185, (800) 586-4203) was contacted and stated that there were no recalls. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

16 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2017

While driving on a highway going approximately 70 mph, I took evasive action to avoid a deer in the roadway. I veered right and hit the brakes. Initially I felt the abs engage and felt, through the brake pedal, a series of thuds. After about a second the brake system failed almost completely and the vehicle continued to move despite the brake pedal being all the way to the floor.

17 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2017

Takata recall, my brakes failed my daughter and me several times I had the brakes replace thinking that was the problem but on 11/07 /17 I was existing off the freeway coming to the red light with the blessings of the lord the light was yellow I braked it wouldn't stop the person on my left waiting for the light to turn green notice I couldn't stop they waited until I made my left turn that was scrary please tell me what I should do to solve this problem. Lindora scott 309 melanie drive center point,al. 35215 (205-637-7497) please don't wait until I have an accident I would loose my brakes and they will go all the way to the floor pumping them didn't help so I would drive in the far right lane when approaching a light or a car I would start pumping and pray all the way to my destination city street and highways been blessed so far. Thanks mrs scott.

18 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2017

On April 13 at 8:25 a. M. My son was leaving to drive over to the community college for class. As he left the subdivision and approached the stop sign at the main road, he applied the brakes to stop. The brakes worked fine until just before the stop sign when he hit a pot hole. The brakes immediately went soft so that he had to push the pedal all the way to the floor to get any stopping power at all. Thankfully he was only going 3-5 mph when the brakes failed. He threw the transmission into "park" (it was going slow enough that it held) and was able to stop before rolling out into traffic on the main road. The weather was clear and the asphalt pavement was dry. He turned the vehicle around and drove it home. I tested the vehicle and we were eventually able to restore braking action by turning the engine off and on repeatedly and pumping the brakes while the engine was running. This is the third similar braking failure we have had with this vehicle in the last six months. Each incident has occurred without warning. We have had the vehicle inspected at the local Ford dealer. They say they cannot find anything wrong with the braking system. The brakes seem to work perfectly all the time. . . Except when they don't work at all! this is really scary and frustrating. I sure hope Ford will do something about this known issue.

19 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2017

The contact owned a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle crashed into a brick wall. The contact stated that the brakes failed without warning. The air bags deployed. A police report was filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed and destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the crash. The failure mileage was 125,000.

20 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

Brakes failed and bottomed out on three occasions over a six month period.

21 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2016

On 3 separate occasions my brakes have failed - twice I was turning a corner to the right - applied my brakes - pavement was rough - I heard a thud like noise and the brakes were all but gone - brake pedal went clear to the floor. The third time I was driving on snow packed/ icy road and the light turned red - it was a very slight downhill section -. I didn't have any brakes - I tried pumping, the brake pedal went clear to the floor and then I had to just put both feet on the brake pedal as hard as I could - finally came to a stop in the intersection - if a car would have been in front of me I would not have been able to stop. I was driving at a safe speed for the road conditions. I have had the car to the mechanic twice now and what he's doing is not fixing the problem.

22 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal failed without warning. The contact had to pump the brake pedal several times to engage the brakes even after turning off and restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact was informed that the hcu needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.

23 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal failed to engage. The contact mentioned that the issue started after sliding on ice and the abs were engaged. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs brake valves were opened and no pressure was being applied to the brakes. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,600.

24 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2016

The anti-lock brake system goes soft and the brakes go to the floor in snowy or rainy conditions. I have experienced this on two snowy days in massachusetts on December 17th and 18th, 2016. The car would not stop when I braked in motion for a 2 way stop sign. The brakes made large noises and felt very soft and the car would not completely stop. Fortunately I was only going 15 miles ph and no other cars were approaching. However, if a car was proceeding I would have crashed into the car. I understand that the 2009 Ford Fusion is under investigation that the brakes may fail in certain weather conditions. This is true as I have experienced it. What do we do while waiting for this investigation? it is a safety problem with the car. Is Ford responsible in between this investigation to fix the problem? can I bring my car to the Ford center to have this issue fixed on their dime?.

25 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving at any speed and when the brake pedal was applied, the brakes went soft and failed to stop the vehicle. The failure recurred multiple times without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the brake fluid was replaced. The issue recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

26 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Tl - the contact 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact was driving at 30 mph and tried to slow down towards an intersection when the brakes failed. As a result the contact crashed into another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center where the body of the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,440. Dg.

27 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

In October 2016 brakes failed while making a left turn while abs module engaged. Pedal went to the floor and vehicle would not stop. Had to quickly pump brakes to get the vehicle to stop. After the event determine abs pump was the root cause and replaced it.

28 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

2009 Ford Fusion. Consumer writes in regards to brake issues experienced. The consumer stated at various times the brakes have failed without warning. The brake pedal drops to the floor without warning.

29 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes failed without warning. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The failure occurred one other time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

30 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

When braking on uneven surfaces the brake goes to the floor and doesn't stop the car properly. I need to put the car into park and pump the brake pedal to get it working again. I tried to stop when approaching a main road from a side road. The main road was being resurfaced and was about 1" or 2" lower than the side road. As the front tires were dropping down the transition from the normal road to the lower road I applied the brake, the brake pedal hit the floor of the car and did not brake in a normal amount if time or space. It felt like the brake failed. I had to hit the brake numerous times to get the car to stop. The wheels were not turned when the brake failure happened. The brake continued to not work properly until I pumped it up again. The brake failure happened numerous other times when trying to brake when going over potholes and other uneven surfaces. The wheels are always straight when the brake failures occur. The brakes seem to fail each time the front wheels are going down a break in the road. The brakes continue to not work correctly on all surfaces until I pump them up again. My mechanic does not know the cause of this problem. The problem has always happened on clear, dry roads.

31 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2015

After stopping on slippery pavement, or sometimes just hitting a pot hole or bump the brakes fail. The next time you press the brake pedal it goes to the floor and has to be pumped up, just to regain any stopping power. The brakes stay in this state feeling soft and going to the floor until you make a very hard stop forcing the abs to engage, sometimes it takes several attempts before the brakes return to normal. We have three Ford Fusions in the family, one 2008 and two 2009 models, and all three of them have had this issue at least once. I have also spoken to other Fusion owners and every one of them has had this brake issue.

32 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

2009 Ford Fusion brake system failure. While driving 65mph and abruptly applying brakes for a second the pedal went to the floor. I tried to pump the brakes several times and then apply a lot of pressure to the pedal to get the car to brake. The pedal was on the floor and the braking distance was increase dramatically. I avoid an accident by changing lanes since my brakes had failed proper operation. I got off the next exit and in a parking lot had a hard time stopping and the pedal was spongy and on the floor. I jabbed the brakes again repeatedly and it pedal return somewhat and my braking distance had returned to normal. The pedal was still spongy and had increase travel before ingagement. After the repairs the pedal still had travel before engagement but was no longer spongy. The bottom of the pedal can be felt if pressed hard, concerning but the dealership said it was safe. . .

33 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the brakes failed when applied. The contact had to pump the brakes to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic however, the mechanic could not find a defect in the braking system. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer nor call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 81,000.

34 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2012

Well what can I say my life flashed before my eyes I all most crashed my brakes failed to work about 1 inch from braking I knew I was not braking at all. I turned off the car while on 39mph and I pulled the emergency brake I have a Ford Fusion 2009. I now know how fast I can lose my life.

35 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Brought my 2009 Ford Fusion new in 2009. Problems started a few years after I brought it. When driving my car, if I hit a pothole, driving in the rain or when the roads are wet, I have to come to a stop, my brakes seem to fail. I am literally pushing my brakes all the way down to the floor, but the car does not come to a stop. This happens for, it seems like minuets, but probably only seconds, but while happening I feel the brakes start to vibrate, then eventually comes to a stop. There have been two instances where I came within inches of hitting the car in front of me. I don't feel safe in this car and will only drive it short distances around where I live for fear of having my brakes failing. I fear that I will injure myself or some one else. Or worse, there will be a fatality involving my car. During my routine maintenance, I have them look at my brakes and every service person says that my brakes are fine. I even had my front and rear brake job done in 2014. Within a few months of having the job done it happened again. It has happened only once since then, but again I drive it short distances at lower speeds around my neighborhood only now. When I look this up I see that there have been many people complaining and describing that the same thing is happening to their cars. Same year/model. It looks it has to do with the abs brake issue and Ford is aware of it and no recall has happened as of yet!!! this is a safety issue and need attention now!.
