20 problems related to automatic transmission control module have been reported for the 2010 Ford Fusion. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2010 Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the 2010 Fusion.
My 2010 Ford Fusion started expierencing transmission problems while at a traffic light last week. The car suddenly went into neutral while the gear shift was in the drive position. After pushing the gas pedal to the floor for several seconds the car slamed into gear. I took it immediately for repair. There have been no issues with this transmission proir to this event. The car has exactly 111,856 miles on it to date. The Ford dealership did an update on the powertrain control module and transmission control module. This did not fix the problem. Upon further inspection, the car was found to need a complete transmission replacement. I did some research and found hundreds of complaints online about Ford Fusions having transmission issues. I contacted Ford so that they could document yet another complaint about one of their Fusions having transmission failure, and asked that there be a recall issued. They said they had no intention of issuing a recall. So I am asking the NHTSA to put some pressure on them to seriously consider issuing a recall before someone gets injured due to a tranmssion failure on the road.
I have a 2010 Ford Fusion sel awd v6 which I purchased about 2 years ago. I have started noticing shifting problems with my car. It first started about 3 weeks ago now. The car acted like it couldn't figure out what gear to go in, while making a left turn through traffic it hesitated a lot & then figured out what gear to get into, barely avoiding an accident. I was then coming back from the airport with my sister & it clammed down in gears as we started to stop & then lunged forward 2 times almost hitting the car in front of me. I have taken it into the shop & they said they needed to reflash the pcm, this was done the day before yesterday. I got it back yesterday & it started doing the exact same things. I have seen that a recall notice was sent out to some people years ago with a time limit on getting this fixed. Recall notice 10b15. It said it ended in April of 2011. Can thr be a time limit on this sort of thing? some people don't have $1,000's of dollars to fix cars. What can someone do to correct this issue.
I was driving down the highway at approximately 65mph and came up behind a truck doing about 50mph. I changed lanes and went to pass the truck. As I passed the truck my car accelerated slowly and seemed to not switch gears at the right time, causing a hard shift and a "chug" feel. I passed the truck and slowed down to 60mph and as the car shifted again, it caused another hard shift and "chug" feel. This seems to be a common issue with Ford Fusions. Mine didn't start happening until after the pcm update recall that was done on 2/26/15. I took it into Ford after it happened the first time and they told me that since there is no wrench on the dash and no check engine light with a code, they can't find anything wrong and cannot replicate the problem I described to them. This is ridiculous that many cars have an issue but it looks like since there is no one that has been significantly injured or killed in an accident due to it, that it isn't being fixed. Please recall this and fix it before someone loses their life from this.
Was driving on a busy city street when the car suddenly lost power. No response when I gave it gas. Turned on hazard lights, turned off engine. Restarted engine, put in drive, tried to move - it shook violently and noisily. With no shoulder to street, I was stranded in traffic lane until towtruck arrived. Had to go to Ford dealership, where they performed "field service action 13b17. " service order said "replace throttle body and reflash pcm. " since they did not charge for the repair, I asked if there is a recall on this issue. The technician said there was a recall for recalibration of the pcm, but with a field service action they only replace the throttle body if it fails. Internet research, including this site, revealed that Ford was aware of a throttle body problem but responded only by extending the warranty on it. The company claimed that in the event of a problem, the car would go into "limp home mode. " whatever that means, my experience was that the car suddenly stopped in traffic. Had I been on an interstate, people might have been killed. And I see, from the hundreds of complaints about the same problem, that it has indeed happened on major highways and at high speeds. It is unconscionable for Ford to ignore a known safety problem such as this until after an incident. Upon further inquiry, the service writer at the dealership claimed that there is now a recall for the throttle body problem, that the notices were "just sent out" and I just happened to arrive before getting one. As you know, as of today, September 9, 2014, there is no such recall shown on the Ford site (could not find any recall info) or the NHTSA site. A vehicle's stopping dead without warning is a serious safety hazard. Why are the affected vehicles not being recalled?.
Took car in to tropical Ford in orlando for driveability recall. They claimed to reprogram the pcm. Now on sept. 6 the car is losing power and stalling out. Also the wrench icon is showing on the dash which in the manual states the issue is the throttle control/transmission. I will have the car towed back to the dealer sept. 8 to have repaired. I suspect is etb connectivity problem, a lot of similar complaints/recall repairs online.
The first time it happened, I had just reversed out of driveway, put vehicle into drive and nothing happened when I press the gas pedal. . . . With 10 year old daughter in car. Fairly busy street, traffic coming both ways, managed to limp to side of road with flashers on. Quick scan of dash showed a wrench shaped warning light. Checked owners manual, shut car off, back on, seemed to correct itself. 2 or 3 days later, wife was driving car, busy area near local mall when same thing happened, told her to turn vehicle off, wait a minute a restart, again problem seemed to resolve itself. After that, remembered I had gotten a letter from Ford, found it and to my "surprise" it was a customer service program 13b17, throttlebody issues. Had "recommended" service, reprogramming of pcm, that was ju;y 11, 2014 drove fine for a couple of weeks, but has happened again with an alarming frequency. Today alone, had to stop, restart vehicle 3 times during what should have been a 10 minute ride, which to about 30 minutes. Ford needs to own this problem before someone is killed!.
At 65 mph the car all of the sudden shuttered and went into limp mode. Pulled over to the side, wrench light was on and the car sat an idled/shuttered. Turned it off. Waited about 30 seconds and turned it back on, everything appeared fine, and no lights on the dashborad. Did an internet search and discovered many 2010 Fusion owners having same issue. . . Throttle body. Took the car to dealer and confirmed faulty throttle body. Wanted $596 to replace throttle body and reprogram pcm. Way too much for a part that is about $150 and 10 minutes work. Dangerous situation, as highway speed and sudden loss of power do not mix.
2010 Ford Fusion sel 2. 5l automatic purchased in yonge/steeles Ford Lincoln in canada. During normal driving, wrench light will suddenly be - cannot accelerate, speed cannot go beyond 60km/h, rpm cannot go beyond 2000 - sometimes vehicle will suddenly loose power and slow down. Almost got rear-ended a few times. - managed to pull over, stop the car, and restart, sometimes the problem will disappear after restart, sometimes the problem comes back in a few minutes took my car to markville Ford Lincoln on June 20th, 2013, and they claimed it was fixed. On the report, it is said: "ds12 diagnose engine light concern, locate and repair wiring to accelerator, replace sensor" "ftp fuel injectors & throttle body service plus pcm reprogram" 5 days later on June 25, 2013, the exact same problem happened again. I was almost rear-ended, and my 3 year old son was sitting in the back of the car. Very frustrated and upset. Took the car to markville Ford Lincoln first thing in the morning on June 26, 2013, and the wrench light was on on my way to the dealer. I did not shutdown the engine and put the car in parking at the dealer. After a while, the engine suddenly started to rev up and down between 1500 and 2200 rpm. Voiced the concern of the throttle body issue to the dealer as I have seen this issue discussed all over the internet. Dealer still claim it is a pcm issue. The car is still in the dealership right now. Called Ford canada customer relationship, and they will contact markville Ford Lincoln. Sorry the address doesn't allow canadian address. So I simply put new york state.
While driving the car at 55mph I let my foot off the gas and then went to accelerate and the car lost all power. Would not recognize the gas pedal check engine light and wrench light were on. Car died in a construction zone with 3 lanes and no shoulder. Extremely dangerous. I pulled car to right lane turned car off and on car continued on. Took car to dealer. Advised no message was marked in computer. There was nothing wrong could not repeat problem. 5 days later while driving home in traffic the car once again lost all power would not recognize gas pedal, check engine and wrench light came on. I pushed car to the shoulder, turned car off and on continued 100 feet car died again 17 more times. I had car towed to dealer. Dealer replaced transmission control. Car now shifts horribly, and has a jump when you let off gas. Car has stalled numerous times. Ford needs to recall for the transmission control module. Ford needs to admit there is issues with the transmissions in the v6 Fusions. I had similar transmission issues with my Ford edge and Mercury sable.
My car is equipped with the 6f35 6 speed automatic transmission and has been experiencing lingering defects. I took my car in to a Ford dealership in late November 2011 and notified them of transmission problems. My invoice reads, reprogram pcm to latest level and reset fluid level per TSB 11-11-23. The problems continue. I will admit that the flaring problem has improved, although the remaining problems persist while the overall feeling of transmission degradation seems to be accelerated. My trans. Continues to struggle and feel worn out during low end acceleration. An inspection of my vehicle from a professional mechanic discovered burned up clutch material within the contaminated transmission fluid. He showed it to me, and I saw it with my own eyes. The dealership I was just at wasn't able to find any burned up clutch material in my fluid or the left front axle half shaft seal leak which my mechanic also discovered upon his inspection. I find it very fishy that these 2 problems automatically disappeared by themselves, it seems to me that the field service engineer from Ford made repairs to my vehicle while it was in his or her possession during the defendants legal inspection for my lemon law suit at elder Ford in troy, michigan. What Ford did to my car was illegal, a defendants inspection allows for observation only, not repairs. I continue to experience very hard abnormal shifting while driving in city conditions and an uncontrollable forward lurch/jolt while driving in city conditions which is extremely unsafe. Sometimes I will have a delayed engagement into drive. The shuddering vibration coming from the front end of the vehicle after driving the car for a short while continues. I continue to have an intermittent problem dealing with a burning oil or greasy smell coming through the air vents. The abnormal high pitched humming drone sound continues.
The transmission slams into reverse when cold, slips between gears, seems to pop into neutral, rpm shoots to over 4000, slams back into gear so hard you'd swear the car has been rear-ended. The "wrench" warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer performed TSB to reflash the pcm computer--didn't help. The car did the same thing as I drove it home from the dealer. This is in no way a complaint about our dealer. This service department always gives us great service, and are willing to do anything they can to help us, but what are they supposed to do? they didn't design or build this monstrosity. They are in contact with Ford factory engineers to try to solve this problem, but no answers are forthcoming. We are afraid to stray far from home with this Fusion. If we can't just go anywhere we want with the car, what good is it to us? the internet is awash with horror stories about this defective transmission. This is a known issue. As of this writing, there are over 60 complaints on this NHTSA site about this exact problem. How many more are needed before the agency takes some action?.
While traveling at highway speed on a 4-lane divided highway, a slow-moving vehicle merged in front of our Fusion forcing a hard braking event (there was somebody coming up from behind in the left lane, preventing a lane change at that instant). The Fusion was slowed down to 50-55 mph as the car from behind passed. This allowed a lane change to avoid hitting the car that pulled in front to begin with. However, in order to keep up with the flow of traffic, 100% accelerator pedal was required. As the Fusion accelerated up to near the original speed, there was a whining sound coming from under the hood, then a violent jolt. This jolt severely shook the car, caused a sudden deceleration and to swerve on the highway. Luckily, my wife was able to keep control of the car. The seat belt grabbed. Had my wife not been wearing the seat belt, she is convinced that she would have been thrown into the steering wheel. The car was taken to a nearby Ford dealership. No problems were found. (however, a fault code specific to hybrid vehicles was logged in the pcm memory. ) this appears to be a continuation of the transmission problems this car has been experiencing since the day after I purchased the car in August, 2010 - and Ford has been unable to correct. This vehicle has been into the Ford dealer numerous times for transmission issues. The car is now at my local dealership.
At 18540 miles the transmission failed and the dealership had to rebuilt it and reprogram the pcm. Then the car was taken back 5 months later with 30100 they had it a week but could not duplicate the problem. We then towed the car to alabama and less then a month later the transmission failed again at 31111 miles at this time it was in the shop 36day the car was pick up and drove 12 miles and the transmission failed again. The dealership then had it another 14 day. A month and a half later the transmission failed again, the dealership had it 3 days. We drove it 35 miles and the transmission failed again and the dealership had it another 17 days. Then we had the car for a month and the transmission failed again with 36000 miles on it. The dealership had it for 16 days. Ford corp has not allowed the dealership to replace the transmission, but has authorized them to rebuild and reprogram pcm numerous times. We have the car now and it is still not shifting right. We have talk to Ford and they will not doing anything for us. Told us the car is fixed. . . . Or is it. This car has become a safety hazard because you do not know when the transmission is going to fail in heavy traffic and create a dangerous condition. We fear for our safety when we drive this car.
I am experiencing chronic shifting problems with the 6f35 transmission. This transmission suffers from slipping gears, shift flares, harsh shifting, and funny shifting that will be followed by an uncontrolable forward lurch. The dealership determined that my valve body failed at 3,744 miles and proceeded to replace the valve body and solenoid assembly. Then at 4,526 miles I had the recall 10b15 powertrain control module reprogramming performed on my car. Next, at 4,727 miles the dealer informed me that my car passed the transmission load test. At 9,181 miles the dealership verified my shift flaring problem. They reflashed my pcm with an updated software program. Trans tech drove vehicle and the trans continued to flare. The dealer then removed my transmission and mounted to the bench for overhaul. The dealer discovered that my valve body had 3 melted bolts, my valve body was damaged, and that my clutches had burned out. The dealer proceeded to install a new valve body, forward clutch, overdrive clutch, piston, seals, and gaskets. At 9,702 miles my car returned to the dealership for shifting problems and poor overall transmission operation. I was told by the dealership that everything was normal at this time. I believe that I was told this because there are no more repairs available at this time. I am sick and tired of Ford giving everyone the run around on these transmissions. They need to man up and let people know what is really going on. My transmission continues to experience shift flaring, violent downshift slams, erratic shifting, delayed shifting, forward lurches, and struggles on takeoff. With every repair attempt the overall performance of this transmission worsens every time. It shifts as though it was designed by a bunch of ametures. I no longer feel safe driving my car due to the uncontrollable forward lurches and extended delayed shift where the car won't move for a few seconds. Please fix this before someone gets killed or injured!.
2010 Ford Fusion transmission flares and hard shifts. Have had the car in twice for the same problems including leaking trans fluid from the left front half-shaft. Recently the wrench light cam on at the end of a 900 mile trip but went off a day later. I have had a half shaft, clutch, related seals and bushings (took 10 days to repair) replaced before the car reached 21,000 miles. There is a wide spread problem with eh 6f35 transmission used in multiple Ford cars and trucks. Ford covered the cost of repairs under warranty and only paid for a rental because I bought an extended warranty at purchase. Ford is at a loss how to fix these 6f35 transmission problems and is deliberately vague when questioned. I spent $25,000 on this car and am worried about it's safety and durability. I think Ford is hoping the warranty runs out before the transmission completely fails. The 6f35 transmissions need replaced. Not more computer pcm flashes. I read that on some of the 6f35 transmissions had bore holes manufactured incorrectly. I think Ford is trying to cover up this problems and trying cheap fixes that don't resolve the issue. Owners all over the internet are having similar issues.
Purchased a new 2010 Ford Fusion se, 4 cyl with 6 speed auto trans. Transmission started slipping within 2 months of purchase. The car has been taken back to dealer 3 times. 10/12/10 at dealer-they stated they could not duplicate the problem. 2nd time 10/25/10 dropped car off at dealer. Same problem, transmission slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear-safety issue with pulling out on busy streets. Dealer performed "reinstall valve body codes and clear tcm. Learn road test performed. " they stated they could not duplicate the problem. End of November wife and kids in car and slipped between 2nd and 3rd gear on while on busy road-huge safety concern due to almost rear-ended. Took car back to dealer on 11/29/10 with the same problem. Dealer kept for several days but "could not duplicate the problem. " I have contacted Ford motor company several times and spoke with customer service. They have documented these complaints also. This is a major safety issue as this problem can happen at any time. I does not happen everyday, but the last time was on a busy road and could have been involved in an accident due to mechanical failure.
Within two weeks of the April, 2010 purchase date, we noticed transmission problems in our 2010 Ford Fusion (6f35 transmission) on a cold start, namely rough shifting, transmission slipping, engine revving excessively but the car not accelerating, and the vehicle lurching forward before slamming into gear. Normally, after the engine warms, the transmission smoothes out and we do not experience further problems that day. However, one episode, which recently occurred after we had driven the car continuously for 180 miles, leads us to believe that we simply cannot trust the vehicle to transport us safely. When we took off in heavy traffic after stopping for a red light, the transmission seemed to shift into neutral. After several seconds, the car slammed into gear. We were lucky to avoid being hit from the rear. The vehicle has been in for multiple transmission repair attempts--including pcm reprogramming, replacement of valve body, and rebuilding the transmission. On the last repair attempt, Ford brought in a field service engineer who again "captured" the problem. Yet the flaring continues. We can replicate it every day by driving the vehicle cold and accelerating normally from 0 to 55 mph on the first shifting sequence. We are convinced that a major design flaw exists in the transmission of the 2010 Ford Fusion. Ford needs to address this serious safety issue immediately!.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at freeway speeds the vehicle would shift out of gear, making the vehicle coast as if it were in neutral then it would lock into third gear making the rpm's increase and the vehicle accelerate. The failure occurred four times. The dealer stated that the service manager test drove the vehicle; however, there were no codes and the service manager determined that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The failure happened again and the contact stated the dealer determined that it was a main computer failure, which was repaired. (pcm reprogram) on September 1, 2010, the failure happened again and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer while it was locked into third gear. The mechanic found an abs code and a coolant refrigerator code. He drove the vehicle 20 miles and again stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle that would cause the failure. The failure happened again the same day. The wrench light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was at the dealership waiting for repairs. The contact stated that this was a severe safety issue because of the way the vehicle lost and gained power in heavy traffic. He does not believe that the vehicle is safe to drive. The contact wanted Ford to buy the vehicle back. The failure mileage was approximately 20, 056. The current mileage was 24,100. Updated 12/23/lj updated 01/04/11.
After stopping for a red signal in traffic (vehicle travel uphill) the vehicle lost drive (acted as if the vehicle had been shifted out of gear). After a harsh engagement, the vehicle regained drive. The vehicle was driven home without further incident that day. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to get the pcm "flashed", I assume with a new shift profile. The vehicle malfunctioned two more times with a data recorder from the dealership installed. The loss of drive occurred after rapidly decelerating to slightly less than 40 mph and then trying to accelerate to the previous speed. Again, engagement was harsh when the transmission began to provide drive. Ford has acknowledged at least one engine rpm spike from the recorder, but denies that it is significant or that it is indicative of a problem. I have had the transmission fluid from this vehicle tested at an independent laboratory. The sample results showed the transmission fluid to be high in aluminum (7 times the average for a unit with similar miles), and high in iron about 1. 6 times the average. This problem is a great safety concern because if the vehicle were to lose drive when pulling out into traffic, an accident involving injury or death could occur! I have found a youtube video posted that represents the problem I am experiencing by using the google search engine and using the querry "Ford Fusion transmission problems" since the pcm flash the automatic transmission seems to behave at times like a manual transmission. On a coastdown it seems like the transmission is "pushing " the car like a manual transmission with the clutch engaged even though I want the car to coast down. The reprogramming has made shifting more harsh in some gear changes, and seem to skip over the problem gears in other shifts.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 30 mph the contact stated that the vehicle began to shift hard. He stated that the transmission slips, and at times when he engaged the accelerator pedal it hesitated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who reprogrammed the pcm. The contact stated that the failure occurred again and the dealer replaced the value body. He stated that the failure occurred three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer when the complaint was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 7,200 and the current mileage was 8,300.
