While traveling on the interstate at 70 miles per hour the car suddenly lost power. The wrench icon illuminated and the transmission felt as if it had disengaged from the engine. There was no throttle response. I was able to pull over to the side of the road without incident. I shut off the ignition. After about 3 minutes I restarted the engine. The wrench icon disappeared. The engine and transmission performed normally after that.
While attempting to pass a vehicle, the transmission completely disengaged from the engine as if it were in neutral leaving me with no power to the wheels. The revs on the engine were extremely high. As I was passing on the left, this left me in an extremely dangerous and vulnerable position as I had no power to move the vehicle. Fortunately I was able to coast to the right at which time at a near stop the transmission violently re-engaged. First time, took to the dealership where they reprogrammed transmission. It has since happened again, again while accelerating to pass. It is just a matter of time before this kills someone. It is not safe, dealer claims that they can not reproduce, there are no codes. This issue is well documented here and elsewhere, there needs to be a recall.
The powertrain has suddenly caused major problems. My car will no longer reverse and more importantly as far as safety is concerned, the gears may sometimes not engage while accelerating causing the car to rev up the rpm's without moving forward.
Transmission was reprogrammed at a Ford dealership. A week later, the transmission exhibited periods of not wanting to engage and when it did the car would lunge forward. You could step on the gas pedal and your engine rpm's would increase but you would just sit there, not moving then suddenly the car will lunge forward. There are also instances where when slowing down for a stop sign the car would start to jerk. It's a dangerous situation since there were other cars at the intersection when the car decided to lunge forward after applying pressure to the accelerator and having the transmission not engage immediately. It occurs after the transmission is at full operating temperature. It is currently sitting at a dealership awaiting diagnosis and repair.
2010 Ford Fusion. Hard shift with second gear, taken to dealership and recall work done. They reprogrammed the transmission twice. The car remained with hard shift in second gear and high pitch sound under the hood, heard in the vehicle any time over 100 rpms. They replaced the transmission. I had the car back 2 days and the car did not engage in second gear this morning for 2 sec. Loud sound from under the hood. This is the third time back to the shop in less than a month for the transmission.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 70 mph, the contact stated that the transmission disengaged from the engine, causing loss of all power without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who reprogrammed the computer in June 2010; however, the problem occurred again in January 2011. The contact did not inform the manufacturer nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was approximately 34,000. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000. The VIN was unavailable.
After the car has been unused for 2 or more days, the transmission evidences an engine flair where the gears are disengaged, followed by a very hard shift between 2nd and 3rd gears. Sometimes it also flares between 4th and 5th. This is a safety issue on left turns and when merging into traffic.
