1 Blown Head Gasket problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2021

The contact's wife owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle started overheating as indicated on the instrument panel. The vehicle then shifted into limp mode. The contact pulled over to the shoulder and allowed the vehicle to cool off however, the vehicle became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to dick smith Ford of columbia (7201 garners ferry rd, columbia, SC 29209) to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Several unknown trouble codes were cleared and the vehicle was returned to the contact. After retrieving the vehicle, the failure recurred twice and was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic stated that the head gasket was blown and that the engine needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.
