Am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety defect in my 2011 Ford Fusion. The vehicle’s electric power steering (epas) intermittently fails while driving, causing the steering to become extremely heavy and sometimes lock up. The dashboard displays a “power steering assist fault” warning. Restarting the car temporarily restores steering assist, but the problem recurs. This is a direct safety hazard. Driving the vehicle in this condition is dangerous, as the steering can fail at any time, including at highway speeds. They say the vehicle was previously repaired under recall but the issue has recurred. I have contacted Ford customer service and a Ford safety supervisor multiple times, and they refused to perform any further repair, citing that the recall occurred over 10 years ago and my VIN may not be in the current “recall bin. ” I am requesting that the national highway traffic safety administration investigate this issue and require Ford to repair the electric power steering under a recall reoccurrence / safety escalation program, at no cost to me. This is a critical safety issue, and the current refusal by Ford puts me at risk of serious injury or death while driving.

I went to start my vehicle and none of the electronic instrument panels turned off. The car started but I couldn't see anything on the panel. I turned off the car, waited for a few minutes, and turned it back on. The instrument panel and other electronic screens turned on but I had 8 different lights pop back on. I had my scan tool and pulled various codes regarding the pcm and losing connection to abs, steering column, power steering, etc. I took it into my mechanic and they were not able to replicate the issue.

Drove home from work 10/7/25 no issues. Parked the car no issues. Son went to leave and the car just stopped functioning. Oem issues I believe is what my son stated with the computer system. Brake is down and won’t release. Won’t start, sounds like it is even when we aren’t touching anything. Asking for goodwill / good faith extension on the recall for this vehicle.

The back-up camera has been very intermittent in its operation. Most of the time, it will show up black. I pulled a code saying that there's an communication error. More recently, it has turned on but everything is inversed. When I turn right, the camera is showing it on the left-hand side of the screen.
Leaking fluids.

Going approximately 55 miles an hour on the freeway and my car starts profusely shaking. I pulled to the side of the highway tow truck comes up behind me. Ann, my cylinder 4 was noted to be misfiring. I had it towed to midas and that is where it was determined that engine coolant leaked into my cylinders and now being told that my car requires a new engine!! mind you I have already paid 5k to replace the timing chain because apparently my car skipped timing due to oil pan leak. Both of these issues are posted on TSB bulletins on the Ford website. I am not going to pay 11k for a new engine not to mention the 5k I already paid and all my other maintenance that I have paid for. Ford was deceptive knowing selling these vehicles with a qa issue! and they refuse to assist the consumer. They need to be held accountable for their negligence!!.
Seemingly randomly all center console functions and door functions shut off (no a/c / heat, can't roll down/up windows, outside ambient temp and can't unlock/lock doors from inside buttons (key still works as well as door handle unlock / speed lock) can be hazardous in even mild temp as interior heats up quickly without air flow. Other non-important functions that stop working include radio/stereo and back-up camera. Research points possibly to bcm apim miscommunication or improper grounding.
1. After vehicle is given gas it won’t crank. 2. Tire sensors won’t turn off. Even with brand new tires and mounts. 3. Random electrical malfunctions. (flickering dash lights, delayed engine start after turning the key, light bouncing back and forth between gears, etc. ).

First, we will start with every time I turn my car to the left the steering wheel box and the brakes skid then the abs sensor comes on then we will start with the car every time I put it into a gear. It automatically goes back to park, and I cannot move the car in any direction. When the issue first started, I could reverse then when I put the car and drive in the middle of the street it would automatically go back to park which could cause a crash I only have video proof of this.
I have a 2019 Ford Fusion turbo engine and everytime I accelerate the turbo is wicking into the pcm the control module which is causing hazards sucking as at random times whenever I turn left the steering wheel with get stuck and the brakes will lock for a couple seconds and then go back to normal. I had meineke do a diagnostic on the car and they showed oil in the pcm aswell as the loss of connection between the pcm and its sensors. They drove the car and while driving the car going 20mph the car is reading as going 100.

My complaint is, why does my 2016 Ford Fusion 1. 5l 4-cylinder ecoboost engine continue to be excluded from these major recalls? it's not fair as I deserve to have my engine, clock spring, & my rear view camera replaced just like the other Ford vehicles! I purchased my 2016 Fusion in 2018 & only a couple of years later I started having problems with the rear view camera but the dealership said that it wasn't covered under the warranty. I have always smelled engine coolant & oil but was always told that there is nothing leaking on the ground so there's nothing to worry about. Also I reached out to you guys in 2024 with the gmail address of [xxx] ) about my steering wheel clock spring & never heard anything back, so I purchased a new one on [xxx] & replaced it myself when it arrived. Also earlier that day, I had my valve cover replaced at brad howell Ford in kokomo, in because I have been constantly losing oil & smelling oil burning. Even after that, I continued to smell oil & engine coolant but still get told that there's nothing leaking. Well my next oil change after that, I told them to check again because I had to add more oil, & that's when they determined that it was the turbo drain tube, which they replaced on Nov. 5, 2024. That stopped the oil smell, but I continued to smell engine coolant which I continued to report to them, & at each oil change, they continued to top off the engine coolant. On Aug. 12, 2025 brad howell Ford decided to run a camera down into my cylinders & discovered that there's oil & coolant leaking down into my #2 cylinder. I contacted tonia frataccia, customer experience specialist, Ford cx/team, & I was told that my VIN# didn't make the recall list & that's why my engine wasn't replaced. It's not fair as my vehicle has the same defective engine & parts as the other recall vehicles & I deserve to have my car repaired also at Fords expense. Please help me, I need my car. Thank you for listening. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2016 Ford Fusion titanium back up camera works intermittently. The viewing screen goes blank when in reverse.
2016 Ford Fusion titanium rear camera works intermittently. Sometime when in reverse, the screen goes blank.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the apim (accessory protocol interface module) appears to have failed. The vehicle's infotainment/play screen is completely blank and unresponsive. This module controls key systems including climate control, navigation, hands-free calling, and the backup camera. The component is available for inspection if needed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? this failure compromises several safety-critical functions. I am unable to adjust climate settings, use gps navigation, make hands-free emergency calls, or see through the backup camera. These features are essential for safe driving, especially in adverse weather or while reversing. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? not yet confirmed by a dealer, but the issue has been consistent. I have attempted both soft and hard resets, and verified the fuses are good. All symptoms point to an apim failure. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no formal inspection has been done by the manufacturer, police, or insurance. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there were no warning lamps or messages. The issue started intermittently about two months ago. Resets worked temporarily, but the screen is now completely unresponsive.

See attached document for complaint. Text from attached document: despite completing the interim repair, the vehicle still cannot charge, and my repeated inquiries, including under case number cxh-05041947-l 1v3x6, have been met with vague promises of replacement batteries being available "next quarter" with no resolution in sight. Furthermore, I learned on July 23, 2025, that Ford offered a buy-back program for affected vehicles that ended on July 1, 2025, which I was never informed about.
The rear view camera of my Ford Fusion has started to sporadically function. It started out with an occasional blank screen showing, followed by a message that the camera is not available and to call the dealer. Over the past month or so (July 2025) it is erroring more than 50% of the time. I am afraid of backing up now as I'm so used to using the camera to properly make sure everything is clear behind me. I have already been in a near-miss situation because the camera was not working, and I didn't see the vehicle that was approaching my car in a blindspot. My vehicle has roughly 190,000 miles and only recently has the camera started giving out. I saw on the news a recall of more than 120,000 Ford vehicles within similar rearview camera failure issues and I wanted to make sure that my situation was also recorded with the NHTSA for my particular year, make, and model. Thank you.
I was driving on the expressway. My car went into limp mode it didn’t stall completely out, but I was not able to accelerate any eventually the wheel became tight. Every light came on. . I made it safely off the expressway. My car would not start the odb port is not reading. I’ve taken it to several mechanics all of them say that it’s my pcm. They said my pcm needs to be reprogrammed. There’s currently an active recall from my exact car but when I search my VIN it tells me I have no active recalls.
Engine light turned and, scanned it and code is p0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected. Coolant is leaking into the engine. I have looked online and multiple people have had this issue, majority of them taking their vehicles to Ford dealers and being told they need an engine replacement. I have taken my vehicle to a mechanic shop and was told the same thing. My safety was at risk because this issue caused my engine to overheat and the engine would not turn on for a while after. With coolant being mixed in with the oil, it damages the engine and can cause the car to stop being functional while you are still operating it. I am also including a link to a website that has proof that Ford delearships have seen this issue before, are aware of it but do nothing to fix it [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Since day number one this vehicle has had an issue of maintaining a charge even when you drive it regularly , if you don't start it the next day it needs a jump , agew days after purchase a new battery was installed and the problem persisted , this vehicle has the same issues as the other 2020 Ford Fusion models that have been recalled?? but unfortunately under the VIN there has been no recall when this vehicle suffers from the same issues the ones that have been recalled suffer from just add it like the others please . The incident has happened every day since 2020 if you miss a day starting it the next day it needs a jump even in warm weather , and it's been driven . ,just doesn't hold a charge I assume , needs a jump there's a record on the Ford app of the numerous jumps for rhe vehicle.
There is a recall date on this car dating back 2021. I bought this car in 2024. The recall problems was never addressed or fixed. This had created an electrical error in the car, given no airbags, and windows do not roll, nor does it give accurate reads on tire pressure. Unbeknownst of all this, a tire popped nearly cause me to wreck on I-5 early 2024. I have documentation supporting the sale of the car, the replacement of tires, oil changes, repairs & towing incurred all on behalf of this car. I would not have bought it knowing there was a recall that was not addressed. This car is a rebuilt title that has been in accidents.

I was driving on the highway in my car stop going then it start rolling backwards a little then I hit the breaks then put in park in put it back in drive then it started driving again then my brake lights came on and didn’t go off for about a week I have to unhook the battery I have a 8 year old son I was on the way to the hospital because my grand father was on life support when all this took place there was trucks going around us we almost got hit my three car thank god I made it home safe then I got. Home in my car just keep getting load as if I’m hitting the car there’s a load sound it makes when I start it up in I dont feel safe driving it … when out it being check out I really need some one to look at it.
What malfunctioned- car did not give any notice that it was in engine failure for months other than under performing and upon taking it to the Ford dealership was never helped with the problem they took money for an oil change and works package but failed to make sure my car was safe. My car was a safety hazard bc it gave zero warning that it was loosing power and when the engine did fail I knew something had been wrong for almost a year and felt it went ignored by Ford and was taken advantage of. The product has been confirmed by multiple mechanics that what causes it is the hose cracks and thus the engine coolant wrecks a working engine. Ford knows it’s a problem but isn’t acknowledging it and makes more money off of parts.
I had multiple coolant leaks in the pass and I have to constantly replace the hose about every 2000-3000 miles also my screen went out in my dashboard causing me to not be able to make any audio changes or station adjustments in my car lastly whenever I get ready to increase my speed my car jerks back.
The power steering has failed. The dashboard showed these two phrases "service advancetrac" - yellow "service power steering now" - red when that happened the first time the dealership was able to fix it under the customer satisfaction program by providing a module software update. But the issue happened again and I believe it is related to the 15v340 recall. I would like that to be investigated.
Randomly 'service advance trac', 'pre-collision assist not available', lane assist not available', power assist steering not available', hill assist not available', warning lights appear. When they do I completely lose power steering. Which is extremely dangerous while driving. Most the time I can turn off and restart the car and it goes away. However, now it has become more frequent and has started losing complete power of the car turning off while driving. I almost died on the interstate. Ford dealerships only recommendation was a new circuit board that was like $5k, more than the car is worth. They said it was something common with the Ford Fusions, thats why they were quit being made. I researched and it is a common issue, but no recalls have been made???!!???.
I have been having issues with the vehicle where it will stall. This even happened when I was driving on the NJ turnpike, it stalled while driving and I had to pull over (thankfully I could) to restart the vehicle. It took the dealer 3 weeks to finally figure out the issue and tracked it down to a bad bcm (body control module). I researched this further and found some interesting information. A significant number of 2015 Fusion owners report similar electrical glitches, with some experiencing a complete loss of power to multiple systems, including the center console, ac, and power windows. Diagnostics have identified water intrusion and corrosion in specific connectors, such as c134 near the front bumper, as a root cause, which can be resolved by cleaning and applying electric grease. However, a failing bcm itself is a common diagnosis, especially when multiple systems fail simultaneously and no other obvious cause is found. Replacing the bcm is a known solution, but it requires programming with the vehicle's specific as-built information and pats key programming to function correctly; a new oem bcm typically costs around $500. The bcm must be programmed using specialized diagnostic tools like Ford ids software or equivalent, and the process includes steps like parameter reset, cei configuration, and battery monitor sensor reset. While some owners have successfully bypassed the bcm using an external relay for specific functions like parking lights, this is a complex workaround and not a standard fix for a failing bcm. Persistent issues, especially those that recur after resets or component replacements, often point to a defective bcm, though other factors like a faulty wiring harness or a bad ground connection should also be ruled out. Given the prevalence of these problems across 2010–2019 Ford Fusions, some owners have advocated for a recall, citing safety concerns.
While driving roughly 5mph leaving from being parked for over 1. 5 hours the hybrid battery caught/ control module caught on fire. Causing part of the truck carpet to catch fire. Since there was someone in the backseat that quickly felt the heat they turned the car off and stopped. The fire was put out. We end having it towed to the Ford dealership that could not identify the reason it caught on fire. This is a known issue but the recall only affected 2 days of production.
The rear view camera will display a black screen or the image will be reversed causing confusion and dangerous reversal actions. Also the camera will go black in the middle of parking or not display at all. The transmission will slip without warning and the vehicle will have have to be shut down and restarted in order to drive correctly.
I purchased a used 2020 Ford Fusion from carmax n 2023 with about 56,800 miles. A week later was involved in a nor side impact accident on the back end driver side, insurance paid for a dinted door and there was no other issues with the vehicle according to sons Ford. In 2024 I was on the highway (going about 80 mph) when my engine light came on, no more than 3 minutes later all the lights in my car flickered and I lost power to my entire car almost causing me my life, roadside assistance and a mechanic who had thankfully pulled over explained that my alternator completely shredded my belt. I paid for both my alternator and belt to be replaced but most recently (2025) I continued to whirring and knocking noises for 3 days (no warning lights) , I took it to firestone who stated I needed a motor repair so I got it towed to the dealership. A Ford certified mechanic stated my flex plate was cracked and it begin breaking off and how I needed a new starter as well leaving the car inoperable. They confirmed this was very uncommon due to the car age and the miles on it (80,000 mi) I’ve also reviewed the complaints on NHTSA and it looks like a lot of 2020 Ford Fusions are having these issues but yet no recall.
Component or system that failed: flex plate, engine electrical system, and alternator (possible related failures). The issue has been diagnosed by a licensed mechanic and is available for inspection upon request. Incident description: on April 15, 2025, while driving my 2020 Ford Fusion se 1. 5l turbo, the vehicle suddenly experienced a total power failure. The check engine light began flashing, and the battery light blinked rapidly. Within seconds, the engine shut down completely while I was mid-drive in traffic, leaving me stuck and unable to move for over 20 seconds. This was a terrifying and dangerous situation that nearly put my life at risk. I was eventually able to restart the vehicle, but it began shaking and rumbling violently — worse than ever before. This issue was never present before my car was involved in two separate collisions, where both other drivers were found 100% at fault. The vehicle was repaired at fix auto santee (a usaa-assigned body shop), but they failed to inspect internal components. A licensed mechanic at j&l auto care later confirmed a broken flex plate and advised it was unsafe to drive. This problem has not been addressed or fixed by the responsible insurers (usaa and aaa) or the body shop. It has progressively worsened and now created a life-threatening situation. Warning lamps or symptoms before failure: a rattling and vibrating noise began immediately after I picked up the car from the body shop in March 2025. No lights were initially present. The electrical and engine lights only appeared on April 15 when the engine shut down mid-drive. Inspected •independent service center (j&l auto care, diagnosed flex plate failure) •usaa and aaa were informed but refused to cover or further inspect the damage •fix auto santee heard the issue but refused to inspect, citing body-only service problem available for inspection: yes — vehicle is currently undrivable and available for full inspection.
When key is in ignition and either in on position with engine off or in accessory state the dash starts to click and the hood then releases and opens does not happen when key is not in the ignition and driver door is open or when car is running or when car is locked but does happen if key was just removed from ignition and door has not been opened yet there are not service lights on and all trunk buttons still work when pressed.
