3 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2013 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

Without warning my electronic power steering failed. This resulted in the steering shaking and then locking up while I was at highway speeds. I then only had manual steering. When I researched this online, it appears to be a common problem with Mustangs of these years and adjacent years.

4 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2015 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/05/2019

While backing up from a parking space the steering became difficult & kept trying to bounce back to center. It was intermittently extremely difficult to steer. Took the vehicle to the dealer. They allegedly corrected the issue. That night my husband was driving the vehicle and executed a right turn at speed. The power steering failed and the steering wheel violently jerked back to center. The vehicle straightened out of the turn into the median and toward oncoming traffic. With terrific strength and effort my husband was able to force the vehicle back into the lane and avoid a collision. The driver information center let up with warning messages and the traction control warning indicator illuminated. With tremendous effort we able to safely get the vehicle to the dealership. Since my husband was driving, his strength was the only thing that prevented impacting vehicles in the oncoming lane during the turn. I can only guess that had I been behind the wheel when the steering failed the outcome may have been tragic. The dealership now says the steering rack requires replacement. The vehicle only has 44k miles and is my daily driver.

8 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2018 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/27/2018

Hours from home and power steering failed. Dealer said the steering assist system is gone 16523 miles on the car. Had to leave the car there and was given a rental. No estimated time of repair, part is on national back order. No warnings steering just failed suddenly. Vehicle was in motion when it quit. Our dealer where we lived searched and found 1 part available in the country. Have to pick up my car. No longer feel safe or confident in driving the car because when is it going to happen again.

9 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

While turning in a parking lot the power steering failed. The steering wheel was locked upside down and the wheels were locked to the right. I restarted the car and the problem resolved. I went into a store and when I came out and started the car again the same thing happened. Three restarts did not resolve the problem. I finally manually cranked the wheel until I heard a loud thud and then restarted the car again at which point the issue resolved. I drive 110 miles each way to work. The Mustang has 68,000 miles on it. This is a safety issue that can get people killed. There have been recalls on other models in the same year by Ford with the same system. I will be trading the car ASAP. These cars are death traps and nothing is being done about it. This is a documented issue multiple times.

12 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

Complete power steering failure. Research on forums indicates that this is a very wide spread, high impact, and unsafe issue. Many other models from common year have had recalls for steering issue. This is also a very costly fault. The failure happened when making a sharp turn. Shut down and disconnect then restart did not clear the fault. Dealer only says steering column, I'd like to track what in the steering column (which sensor) failed and is there a trend with a common sensor or assy in the other models that were recalled.

13 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/05/2016

My electronic power steering has failed 3 times-the car engages the brakes without warning and pulls to one side. Then the "service the advance trac warning light "comes on. I have read that there are major safety issues with these electronic power steering rack assemblies. I am concerned about the my safety. I have read of total failures that have resulted in crashes and injuries. Ford has refused to give me any help-they want to charge me about $3500. 00 for the repair. I filed my complaint earlier today verbally with your team-complaint number-10967970.

14 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

For a few days before the incident, my steering was acting up like small bumps when I turned left. Then yesterday, I backed out of the driveway, drove up my street, turned left and once I got up to speed the epas just stopped working. My computer said it was an electronic assist power steering failure. I couldn't control the vehicle and I almost hit a child walking to school on the sidewalk. I tried all the reset stuff Ford says and that didn't work. I called the Ford dealership and they were basically the rudest service center ever. They refused to even give me a loaner car while they fixed it, which would take days. So I took the car to a local repair shop I use and they are working on it now and gave me a loaner car before I asked for one!!!! this thing broke 2000 miles out of the warranty and I almost killed a kid walking to school. I commute on I-5 at 70 miles per hour everyday and now I'm worried what will happen if it shuts off going that speed. My repair bill will be around $2,000. 00 for a car with 38,000 miles on it. My Nissan frontier had 256,000 miles and had the radiator replaced!!!.

15 Power Steering Failed problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

While driving, the power steering assist failure indicator came on along with the service advance-track indicator and then the steering wheel locked completely. This forced me into oncoming traffic and with no ability to steer the car at all. I was forced off the road because I could not change direction at all and ended up hitting my head, elbow and knees. After calling the Ford dealer, they informed me that there was a "TSB" about it but no recall. The dealer then went on to tell me that almost all the Ford vehicles had been recalled for the same problem, except the Mustang even though they see more of this problem in Mustangs than any other model. They then quoted me over $3,000 to have it repaired. This problem, in my opinion, could've killed me and I'm shocked that it hasn't cost any else their life.
