Steering u-joint sticks and prevents steering wheel from turning without a catch/hitch . Not evident at lower speeds but is prevalent at speeds 50 and above. The photos attached show the part and one picture shows a youtube video showing the exact problem. The video title is shown in picture: dangerous steering problem and it is very scary at the higher speeds when it sticks and you have to exert force to move it to right or left. Trying to stay in a lane is a problem!! electronic steering was checked by dealer last year and they found nothing as they probably didn’t test drive it at the higher speeds; has continued till today and after a road trip yesterday I went online and found this information!.

The vehicle experienced a sudden steering malfunction involving the electronic steering gear. While backing out of a parking structure, the steering wheel suddenly jerked and locked instead of naturally correcting, resulting in collision with a pillar. There were no warning lights, steering fault messages, or prior symptoms before the incident. Restarting the vehicle did not resolve the issue. The dealership confirmed the issue and documented “loss of communication with steering gear,” “internal steering gear failure,” and “no signs of damage causing failure. ” the steering gear is being replaced under warranty. The failure created a safety risk because steering response suddenly changed without warning. I am concerned the incident could have resulted in a more serious crash had it occurred at higher speed or during active traffic instead of inside a parking structure. Multiple tow attempts through Ford roadside assistance reportedly struggled to move the vehicle afterward due to the steering issue. The steering wheel over time is very loose and in my case I need to be very careful with it because I feel I am losing control on my car while driving. You can feel the steering wheel moving up and down without little to know force also while driving. I don't even drive that fast since my way to work is always in a school zones.

This is a common issue with these s197 Mustangs. The steering position sensor failed. While driving, this can cause the "service advancetrac" warning to come on, meanwhile the wheels spin at different speeds as the car attempts to correct a low traction scenario that isn't happening, causing the driver to crash. This caused me to temporarily lose control of my vehicle. Luckily I didn't hit anything. The sensor itself can be replaced for $20-$40, but Ford has sealed it inside the epas system, making it non-servicable and escalating the repair cost to over $1300.

While driving at normal road speed, the vehicle suddenly displayed multiple warnings at the same time indicating that advancetrac (electronic stability control), traction control, and abs were disabled, and the vehicle entered a reduced functionality state. These warnings appeared simultaneously without any hard braking, loss of traction, or driver input at the time. The warnings and system faults then cleared in a cascading manner over a short distance, with each system returning one after another while continuing to drive, without shutting off the engine. After approximately a few thousand feet, all warning messages disappeared and the systems appeared to return to normal operation on their own. This has occurred more than once since ownership. The first occurrence happened at approximately 50 mph. The second occurrence happened at approximately 20 mph and occurred only seconds before an emergency braking event in the rain to avoid a collision. At the time the warnings appeared, the vehicle had temporarily lost abs, stability control, traction control, and related braking assistance systems, creating a serious safety risk during an actual emergency maneuver. After the events, an obd-ii scan was performed and no stored fault codes or diagnostic trouble codes were present. However, for the next several engine on/off cycles, the steering and traction control behavior felt abnormal, as if the systems were only partially engaged, even though no warning lights or messages were displayed. No permanent warning lights remained illuminated afterward. The problem is intermittent and difficult to reproduce. No collision occurred, no repairs have yet been performed, and the cause is currently unknown.

The steering wheel has a very distinct wobble. It moves in every direction as if the locking bolt is loose.

I was driving and my steering wheel turned to the right all of a sudden and I hit a curb. The curb caused my tire to blow, messed up my wheel, and who knows how bad anything else was that was messed up from this incident.

I am dealing with Ford on two brand new Mustangs. That are both failing electrically and they claim they have fixed yet haven’t and still exhibiting gross safety concerns. This is simply large scale negligence. Both Mustangs screens have and are randomly blacking out creating massive safety concern when no guages or functions are present. I’ve contacted them and a. Insider has given me a document showing that they know and have no answers. And for this. Is gross negligence. I demand replacements. Both problems have cause financial damages. And also psychological trauma due to prior car wreck where dash blacked out. This is a known issue and I demand answers.

Power steering went out. Made turning very difficult. Then when you would turn either way it would jerk the steering wheel the opposite way. Caused me to run off the road. Car was towed to repair shop. According to repair shop the rack is not available my car has been in the shop almost a month. The labor is 4 hours but there is no available parts to repair it.

The steering gear including contour module went out. I was backing out and couldn’t turn my wheel my sisters boyfriend had to drive it home on a curvy road with no power steering. I have a local mechanic looking at it but they said the part is on back order which means this must happen a lot. They finally got the part and now are saying it won’t program so are needing to order another part. When I turned the car on to leave my destination it said service powersteering system and abs, but before that there were no warnings. I unplugged the battery for 30 minutes to rest the car and everything worked fine for another 1, then driving down the road it went out again.

2024 Mustang steering recall noted but not applied to my vehicle although the problem exist. The lane assist kept pulling to the right when the lane markings were unclear. Entering highway, lanes go from 2 to 1. We were merging when a car tried to merge into us. We moved over to the right and the lane assist pulled us into a curb. We ended up in a roll over accident and no air bags opened or went off.

It was raining and on a bumpy road when I was in second or 3rd gear when it started to lose control a little. It slid a little, when I held the wheel straight it was still going left to right by itself,after I got control of the wheel. The steering wheel was straight but it was still going from side to side. It felt like it trying to wreck me.

I have a 2006 Ford Mustang gt; 100,000 miles, excellent condition. While driving and when turning, at any speed, the steering wheel locks making it impossible to steer. I took it to two different mechanics who would not work on the problem as they believed it to be a defect, and they did not want the responsibility of the repair required. I then went to the Ford dealership, and the service manager said he had never heard of such a problem. It is very dangerous, and impossible to determine when it will happen again. 2016 Ford Mustang v6 this is extremely concerning as it's a safety issue losing power features while the vehicle is in motion. While driving the car provides an error message with a wrench sign/icon stating the transmission is not in park, then it proceeds to shut down the car leaving us without power steering.
