2 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1998 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

The contact owned a 1998 Ford Mustang . The contact stated that while driving 45 mph and without warning, the engine started to rev and the rpms increased drastically as the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The contact had to apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle and turned off the engine. While doing so, the contact had to drive wedging the tire against the curb in order for the vehicle to lose speed. The vehicle was then towed to an authorized dealer where they diagnosed that the cruise control cable was frayed and coming apart. The vehicle was repaired with a new cable. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 135,000.

3 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2007 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/28/2008

I have a new Ford Mustang 6 cyl. (2007) . The gas pedal hesitates to "catch", and then lurches the car forward. When I bought the car in March 2007 (new) I brought it back to the dealer, who had it checked out. They said it was "normal" for this to happen, and I "would get used to it". I have driven it for a year in the san francisco area. It lurches forward when I accelerate from stop signs, traffic lights, etc. It is a big nuisance, but I didn't think it was that serious until I was driving in the trinity alps mountain area of northern California. On twisty mountain roads the hesitation and lurching in the gas pedal almost caused me to go over the side of a 3000 ft mountain road! it is extremely difficult to keep control of this car on winding mountain roads, and it is extremely dangerous to drive this car on such roads. I just brought it back into the dealership. They again said it was a "normal" situation for this model of car, and refused to get it fixed. There is apparently no way to adjust the throttle control, unlike in older cars with a throttle cable (this has a computer-type chip). This must be fixed or someone will eventually get killed!.

4 Speed Control Cable problem of the 2000 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/22/2004

At times, my engine revs very high. I can actually continue to accelerate without depressing the gas pedal. When coming to a stop, the engine will rev up to nearly 4000 rpm with the clutch pedal pressed, and my other foot braking. Once I stop the car, the rpms then decrease but still stay on the high side (1500 rpms). Also, when going throughout the shift sequence (1st to 2nd to 3rd etc. . . Each time I press the clutch, the rpms shoot up). I am an engineer, business owner, and somewhat intelligent man. There are no obstructions to the accelerator cable that I can see, and no, my foot is not on the gas pedal. This is a real problem. It makes driving. . . Interesting to say the least, and in the hands of someone less capable, this would cause a severe risk.
