Working on friends pu. 2. 3l complaint sticky throttle. Turning throttle by hand at juncture of throttle cable shows obvious sticking. Disconnect cable, still sticks. Careful observing revealed interference point between throttle attachment and unrelated lifting metal immediately underneath. Fix was to impact interfering metal via socket extension and hammer.

Accelerating up hill throttle locked into full open (full throttle) after reaching level grade. Brakes barely able to restrain truck. Got stopped and into neutral at side of road. Throttle stuck open at 3500 to 4000 rpm. Throttle cable able to be returned to idle manually from engine compartment. Able to repeat lock up by "goosing" accelerator (this after second occurrence). This is used commercial vehicle. There is no carpeting. No codes or other explanation recorded by vehicle computer. First occurrence, mechanic ascribed to loss of air intake due to mouse nest in airbox, with vehicle computer causing acceleration. Likely wrong, likely same as second occurrence. Second occurrence, mechanic ascribed to throttle body carbon deposits resulting in binding of the throttle linkage (no mouse nest present). Cleaned throttle body. Have about 20 miles on truck since cleaning. Assuming carbon build-up explanation proves correct, this is a serious condition to have happen due to normal wear at relatively low miles.

Pulled into a sloping down parking spot. Stopped, foot on the brake. Before I could shift out of drive, the engine abruptly reved up to max rpm. I had both feet on the brakes, the back wheels started spinning creating a cloud of blue smoke. I jammed the gears into park and they engine only quit after I turned off the key. I have several witnesses to the event. My regular mechanic disconnected the cruise control cable and it hasn't happened again. Ford contacted but refused to fix the problem.

On 4 November 2014 I was referencing the current air bag issue with Ford vehicles. While reviewing current recall on 04 Rangers I noticed NHTSA recall #11v3520000> the description of the vehicles malfunctions accurately describes a same issue I am currently having with my Ranger. Ie, when shifting from p to d or d to r a fuze will blow causing my turn signal, brake lights, and cruise control to become inoperative. I called my local Ford dealer service department about the issue and was told there were no recall notices for my vehicle VIN number. I'm wondering if there is an issue with the recall VIN database or if the parameters shouldn't be expanded to cover more applicable vehicles. In addition there was a recall for the same year and make vehicle as mine yet the service department doesn't show any recalls for my particular VIN.

Vehicle with cruise control problem (not engaging) suddenly accelerated while driver was accelerating from stoplight. Reached approx. 45 mph under forced acceleration before was able to pull onto side road, stand on brake, shift to neutral, turn off engine. Restart engine still had engine racing. Second restart ditto. Tapped accelerator, engine returned to normal rpm. Whew!
was in process of purchasing vehicle, dealership (not Ford) replaced cruise control cable, cruise now working, no repeat of problem.

The contact owns 2004 Ford Ranger. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph with the accelerator pedal stuck in an open position. The brake pedal was applied numerous times without a response. Immediately, the gear selector was shifted into the neutral position. The vehicle continued to accelerate. The anti-theft lock warning light indicator illuminated, followed by a loss of power steering. The vehicle finally came to a complete stop after repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that the failure was contributed to the speed control cable. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the speed control cable was disabled and removed from the vehicle. The contact was concerned about the safety hazard regarding the defect. The failure mileage was 149,978. Updated 09/28/10.
Ford sent me letter last fall stating my Ford Ranger was subject to a safety recall. I stopped by my dealer every couple of weeks for months and they said nobody has parts, because the supplier won't make these parts 'til everything is ready. I'm tired of waiting. . . I want the gov't to pressure Ford to act. The recall I learned is for the cruise control wiring that causes fires. . . Even when not using cruise control.
Bracket holding gas pedal detached from car sheet metal that is between engine and passenger compartment. Unit hanging by accelerator cable. There look to be 3 spot welds btn backet and sheet metal that broke. Driver was driving on freeway at the time and decelerated in traffic.

While driving 60mph cable that goes to accelerator disengages, causing loss of all power control features.
When applying accelerator pedal will stick. Has to press very hard to get vehicle to respond. This happened before, in April 1999. At that time, dealer replaced throttle box. A bolt was stripped and caused throttle cable to stick. This was done under warranty.
