Windshield Wiper/washer Problems of Ford Ranger - part 2

Windshield wipers would operate while switch is in a off position. Dealer notified and informed consumer that no correction can be made at this time. Can NHTSA help in matter.

While turning the windsheild wipers off wipers continue to travel, causing the consumer to turn the wipers on/off to stop the traveling . Please provide further information.

Very randomly and intermittently, while driving the windshield wipers will kick on to full speed without application. Driver has to turn the wiper switch on and off to get the wipers to go off. The dealer is not aware of the problem.

Windshield wipers/washers failed to operate, sometimes operated involuntarily. Ford dealership has replaced gem and wiper/washer switch; problem is recurring. Now involves dome light and warning chime as well.

Problems with windshield wipers on 1999 Ford Ranger. The vehicle's windshield wipers would turn on and off at various times while driving. The problem would occur 3-4 times a week and is very distracting. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that eh problem could be fixed for $200-$300. The consumer feels that since the part did not fail due to wear that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair. While researching the problem the consumer found two technical service bulletins, TSB 00b40 and TSB 0096.

Wiper switch faied in rain storm. Wiper can be activated by hitting switch. This does not last long. Advised by service dept that switches are defective. Defroster failed to heat up. Heat will finally blow after driving truck for long period of time and hitting dashboard.

Windshield wipers come on at any given time. Contacted Ford they state no problem. Dealer stated problem exists but no repair. Which part of Ford do you believe??? wipers still malfunctioning.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT, the problem is your driving along and the windshield wipers start working complete on there own, work about 3 to 4 minutes then it goes off. This happens all the time while you are driving the truck. Ive tried to turn them off by the control switch but it does nothing. Thats also the handle that the turning singles lights are on, have seen to be working okay at this time. Called russ dean Ford about the repair, the dealer said there was a program to replace the switch but not a recall about replacing the switch. He said that I can pay $150 to $200 to have it fixed and if there was a recall Ford would pay me back. But that doesnt help with the problem at this time. Researched the internet under Ford motor credit service bulletins for 1999 Ford truck Ranger 4wd  this information technical service bulletins or recalls number: 00-9-6, issue date: may 2000, TSB title: front wipers operate while switch is in off position.
