My son was driving my 2002 Ford Taurus on 4-15-2014 at approximately 12:00 a. M. He had the cruise control set to 35 mph. While driving, the cruise control began to accelerate. He tried to disengage the cruise control by hitting the brake. The cruise control would not disengage and the car kept accelerating reaching the speed of about 70mph. As a turn approached he could no longer control the vehicle. He hit a curb and a stop sign before the car came to a stop on the roadway. This was not the first instance with that vehicle and cruise control malfunctions, though this was the only time that the cruise control caused an accident. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The vehicle sustained $6005. 00 of damage and is a total loss. Which does not include the cost of fixing the cruise control and acceleration issues.
I looked up my car recalls and there where 3 and when I called Ford they told me that this website is wrong and there is no recalls. Even when everything that is wrong with my car is on the recalls. I just need to known what to do now.
While backing my car out of the driveway, I heard a loud pop, followed by a hissing sound in my front left tire (the drivers side). I thought I ran over a nail and immediately stopped to investigate. Seeing just a flat tire I tried pulling back into the driveway to change the tire, however the car would not move. I investigated further and discovered the spring had broken and was impaled in my recently purchased new tire! I hate to think what would have happened if I was driving at highway speeds - I would have lost all control and probably would have had a very serious accident!!! I noted many complaints have been filed and there was a recall on the front springs on Ford taursus' ending in 2001. I strongly urge the NHTSA to please extend that recall to include the newer Ford Taurus' that seem to still experience this extremely dangerous and potentially deadly defect. How many lives have to be lost or property damaged before Ford is held responsible?.
Left front spring broke and punctured the tire and a link.
Started vehicle, put foot on brake and put into drive. As soon as the vehicle began to move forward, there was a loud bang. The left front of the vehicle nosed down, and I stopped. Inspection of vehicle showed broken left front spring.
Had a front spring break a 83000 and a rear spring at 135567 both on driver side total cost of repairs was 900 $$$.
Driver side coil spring broke and cut into tire deflating it. Smoke from wheel-well backed up traffic - limped to a side street on flat tire. Replaced coil spring and tire. Really worried about serious accident should other spring break on highway at higher speed. I don't understand why this has not been a recall item especially since these are the same coil springs as on the '01 model for which there was a recall.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving 50 mph the driver side coil spring snapped causing the left tire to pop out. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who inspected the vehicle and stated the coil springs were the cause of failure. The coil springs will be replaced by the contact for $300. The dealer informed the contact there was no recall for her vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 76,000.
I was pulling my wife's car out of the garage when the left front tire blew. I thought it was just a flat till I noticed that the front strut (spring) had broken. I could tell that this happened because of a manufacturing defect (the steel was not heat treated properly). I know this because I spent 40 years in the auto industry as a quality control manager. I took the car into my mechanic and had all four struts replaced at a cost of almost $800. 00 this is a true safety defect because my wife travels to work on I-75 at 70 mph and drives 60 miles one way to work. If this happened on the highway, she surely would have flipped over!.
About 5 months ago I filed a complaint about my strut spring breaking and going into tire! I was told that issue is still under investigation! please give me a status! I have friends with same issues, and these cars should be recalled, its obvious that the strut or springs are defective. Im afraid of driving the car and I should not have to pay for this defective part!.
2002 Ford Taurus four broken springs, punctured tires, no recall on this year car ; plugged heater core, frame rot,.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. While driving 30 mph, the front end of the vehicle collapsed onto the front tire. Pulling out of work parking space, heard what sounded like metal grinding and then my tire went flat. Spring had snapped and punctured my tire. Before realizing this is what happened, tried to change the tire. Had to have a tow to firestone and while working on it they found that when the spring/coil snapped it cut my brake line. Total cost is $1200.
Coil springs broke on my 2002 Ford Taurus. When I called the tow truck company, he stated it was about the sixth Taurus he had towed that month with the same, exact problem. When we got to the auto mechanic, he said he fixes these all the time on Taurus' and he's very surprised they will not cover it on a recall. I was just researching this on the internet & found hundreds of complaints of the very same issue on 2002 Ford Taurus'.
See odi 10222968 for details. This is a follow-up request for investigation. Summary: driver's side front suspension spring catastrophically failed when backing out of driveway. This had the same conditions as described in recall 04s17 on 1999 to 2001 Taurus. After repair at my own cost, I sold the car. I would like to add to the previous complaint that the vehicle was somewhat unique in that it was a former gsa vehicle. I had brought it at a gsa auction. This is unique since the gsa vehicles are brought under a large contract and may be manufactured slightly differently from the other vehicles thus may not have been included in the investigations.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the front left driver side tire blew. Upon inspection, he notice the strut spring punctured the tire. The dealer replaced the left front strut spring. The current and failure mileages were 96,958. The VIN, engine size, and number of cylinders were unavailable.
2002 Ford Taurus, coil springs broke and punctured tire. Same as NHTSA action number: pe04044 I have seen several other comments online about the 2002.
Over the course of 8 months on three separate occasions, 3 out of 4 factory installed coil springs on my 2002 Ford Taurus snapped and punctured each corresponding tire. The Taurus was purchased and used in michigan for 6 years, then I relocated to florida. Within the first month of living in florida is when the springs began to snap one by one. Two of the springs broke while my vehicle was in my drive way: 2 of 3 springs snapped while the vehicle was unoccupied in park and 1 occurred when I put the vehicle into reverse. The Taurus hadn't moved more than an inch from its parked position when the third spring snapped and punctured my tire. After the first spring snapped, I had it (and the tire) replaced at a vehicle repair shop. A month later when the second spring snapped, I also had that spring and tire replaced at a vehicle repair shop. The third spring snapped about 6 months after the second spring snapped and again I had to have it towed to a repair shop for a new coil and tire. It was at this time- when the third spring was in the shop to be replaced- that I opted to have the fourth and final spring repaired so as to avoid eminent rupture of a fourth tire.
When applying the brakes to come to a stop vehicle jerked as if it was rear ended. Took vehicle to dealership, and was informed by mechanic nothing could be found.
