The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus ses. The contacts stated while driving approximately 25 mph he heard a loud noise, then the front left side of the vehicle fell onto the ground. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road where he noticed that the front spring had fractured. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor was it repaired. 3 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2011

The front drivers sid spring broke and punctured the tire on my 2002 Ford Taurus. It was parked in my driveway and when I went to drive it failed. I have seen on forums that this has been an issue with other people and Ford had recalls until 2001 for the exact issue. There is a defect investigation going on. Please reference NHTSA action number : ea08018. Mine is the exact issue.

4 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2011

The spring of the front strut assembly on my 2002 Ford Taurus broke in half while driving the car. There was no rust of any kind around it. The strut assembly was the original one form the Ford factory. I saw online that this is a common and extremely dangerous issue for which Ford issued a recall that goes up to 2001 models. I wonder why newer models were not included if the issue was never resolved.

7 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2011

This winter I had my right frond strut spring break as I was backing out of my driveway and the spring went right through my tire. The noise sounded like an explosion and scared me to death! my husband got the spring and strut repaired and purchased a new tire. I thought this was an isolated problem until I walked out today and sat in my car to go to work. I had not turned the car on, or even touched the steering wheel and again I heard the same loud noise and now the spring on the left side broke. I am also going to check the back tires because my car sits at a funny angle and I would guess tha the spring on the left rear is about to break.

Henceforth I had to pay to get new struts and a new tire and a new stabalizer for my car. . I looked on the web and saw a bunch of people have had the exact same problem with their 2002 Ford Taurus. . Please help.

10 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2010

Christmas morning I was backing out of my driveway when a loud popping noise occurred. It was found that the front drivers side spring has fractured. I was lucky to be at home driving at a low speed. However, this is the second time in 6 months that I have had a spring fracture on me. Back in June 2010 I had the same experience with the right rear spring. The car is currently un-drivable and must be towed to a shop for assessment and repair. Parts will likely need to be replaced and I hope there isn't more damage than needing the spring and potentially the tire replaced. I am writing to make you aware because many other 2002 Ford Taurus owners have experienced the same problem yet the real recall ends with model year 2001 and there is still a defect investigation open on my particular car for this problem.

Failure Date: 09/27/2010

Broken front spring on 2002 Ford Taurus. Only 40,000 miles on it & it ruined a brand new tire. $700. Repair cost that I couldn't afford but had to have a car, therefore had no choice but have it fixed. Why isn't something done about this problem, repair man said it's common on the Taurus. Has something been done to fix this problem, no one was hurt or killed but it sure could have happened.

15 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

Two nights earlier I was in my garage working when I heard a loud bang. I was startled enough to go outside. Believing it was a vehicle that had just driven by I went back to work. That evening my son was going to borrow our 2002 Ford Taurus sel. As he was backing out to leave the front passenger tire blew out. Further investigation revealed the spring snapped in half. You could see by the tire that the spring rubbed a groove on the tire and once he turned the steering wheel the spring tore a huge long hole into the tire. The tires have approx. 20,000 miles on them. I went on-line to see what it takes to replace a spring when I saw a bunch of forums where this has been a fairly common occurrence/problem. I will purchase a new spring and have it installed but actually it seems like the safest thing to do would be to replace them all. I will also keep my receipts for the work if there is ever a recall. It sounds to me like until there are some tragic accidents Ford doesn't see this as a big problem. I just warned a coworker whose wife owns a 2003 Taurus about this and she had one snap a year ago but the tire wasn't punctured. This is crazy!! I can't believe this hasn't been taken care of. Thanks!.

16 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2010

When backing out of my driveway my left front tire on my 2002 Taurus exploded. My car has under 64,000 miles on it and my tires were less then 6 months old. The spring broke and cut the tire half way around. I was just stopping to look for traffic when it happened. Had this happened 3 days before I would have been on the freeway with my grandchild. Ford knows of this problem and recalled all cars up to 2001 even though these are the same springs. How needs to die before they fix this. I am afraid to even drive it because I see someone had it happen 2 times . It may cost up to $1,000 to repair it and that is not counting the towing and the new tire.

17 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2010

Own a 2002 Ford Taurus. Car parked in parking garage while at work. After work went to car, started it, put into reverse, moved not even three inches, sound like gunshot, front spring blew through front tire on driver side. My son said I had guardian angel. . . Would have been killed if car had actually made it to the road. I have only had car three years. Towed to repair shop, mechanic said looks just like recall situation on 2001 Taurus, same spring incident. . Mine naturally not covered, but this is wrong. I was not aware of recalls on 2001 vehicles. I have no money, this repair will set me back quite a bit. I am thankful that nobody was hurt by flying parts!.

18 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

Car was parked, when I went to get into car to go to work,I heard a bang! 24 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2010

Entering driveway, right front tire blew out and car "clunked" to ground! had difficult time to get the carjack under car. . Because it was so low, no realization at that time that springs were gone. Replaced with donut spare, while driving to repair shop next day, car started smoking and smelling like burning rubber. Smoking a lot. Both tires in front burning up. Made it to repair shop, was told both front springs were gone, and both front tires were gone. Had to replace springs and tires in front end = $516. 25. Was told I was lucky to make to to repair shop with all the smoke and burning rubber. Was also told I was lucky I wasn't driving on the highway. Was also told this happens often in 2002 Taurus model. I do not know if repair shop kept the old springs. I was too angry to ask. The tires looked like someone took a can-opener to them and sliced them wide open. Very angry.

Failure Date: 03/19/2010

The right front spring for the strut rusted out and ripped open the right front tire. Car has 70,000miles. Recall to install shield so spring can't rip tire was done for all models up to 2002. 26 Front Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

On the morning of March 1st, 2010 my wife was backing our 2002 Ford Taurus out of the garage when the tire blew. Upon inspecting the car I noticed that the coil spring was broken and contacted the tire resulting in tire failure. This is the second time that a coil spring has broken and blown a tire. The first time was in 2006. We live in franklin massachusetts. We bought the car new in 2002 from acton Ford. Ford did not offer to cover the cost of the repairs. Franklin Ford mentioned that it was a campaign and the car was not covered. My wife and I recently sold the car for parts to a Toyota dealer. We are concerned about the safety of people driving these cars that are unaware of the potential dangers. I'm thankful that my family was not driving on the highway when the tire blew. I took pictures of the tire and spring. I have the VIN number as well. Thanks for your time.
