I was pulling out of a driveway in my vehicle, and as I backed out of my parking spot I heard a popping noise. By the end of the driveway I knew there was something wrong, so I got out to check. The front left spring on my 2002 Ford Taurus had broken and sliced my tire open, causing the popping noise I had heard. As a result of this, my car was not drivable. My vehicle had to be towed to a repair facility, and it will cost $350 for a new tire, new springs, a front end alignment and labor. Had I been traveling on an expressway going 70 mph this could have been fatal.
2002 Ford Taurus front driver side spring broke in half and shredded the inner wall of the tire.
2002 Ford Taurus broken front spring.
Front spring broke and slashed tire. Now, a few months later, the rear spring is broken.
While driving at highrate of speed my son was nearly killed when front spring broke and went into the tire. There is no recall on Ford Taurus 2002 for this.
I have a 2002 Ford Taurus. The front spring on the drivers side broke while sitting in the laneway. It punctured the front drivers tire(which I just had installed a month previous at $200. 00per tire) I did not know of recalls for this particular year of car. . Had I been driving down the freeway, I probably would not be sitting here writing you this e-mail. I also just paid a repair bill for the front springs for $410. 00. I have the old parts to inspect if need be. I would appreciate a response from you .
Left front strut spring broke when parked in the garage of my house, piercing the new tire & preventing me from backing out of garage.
I was backing out of the driveway today and my left front spring 2002 Ford Taurus 140,000 miles let go and punctured my tire. Thank goodness that this did not happen when I was driving down the highway, for it could have been disastrous. There are numerous postings by Ford owners on this issue. Do Ford owners have any recourse, since this yr. (2002 Ford Taurus) is not covered by recall but the earlier yr. Cars are?.
Failure of right front spring and puncture of adjacent tire on 2002 Ford Taurus in ann arbor, michigan. Approximate mileage on vehicle was 81,500. No prior warning or occurrence. No external property was damaged. Was backing the car out of a parking space in a lot and was proceeding to enter the roadway when a loud explosive noise occurred. Looked like a flat tire on the right front. Tow truck attendant stated the that the right front spring broke and punctured tire and took the car to our local Ford dealer. The dealer service attendant stated that there was a warranty on this failure and checked if our vehicle qualified. The attendant stated that the vehicle build date was outside the qualified warranty period. The dealer replaced both front springs, right front strut bearing and the right front tire. Not sure if the parts are still available. We would appreciate if the warranty period could be extended to include our build date.
As my wife started the vehicle in the garage, driver's side coil spring broke tearing the inside of the tire and puncturing it causing a blowout. When the tire was removed, I found a tear in the inner wall approximately 14 inches long and a puncture. Fortunately, it occurred in the garage, but had we been going at highway speed, it would have been deadly. The tow truck operator, our mechanic and the tire store were familiar with this problem in these vehicles.
Broken front and rear suspension spring caused tire failure.
Coil spring broke went through tire.
The drivers side front spring on our 2002 Ford Taurus just blew apart. The car dropped down the road, we were on I-465 on the west side if indianapolis in heavy traffic with a semi passing us and behind at 65 mph. Thank good no one hurt , just in less than a second the front of the car was on the interstate. The state police got us a toe truck and the repair shop being a firestone store said they get several Ford Taurus in with the same problem.
Passenger coil spring on 2002 Ford Taurus sedan has failed and was noticed as a failure today.
Front driver's side spring on my 2002 Ford Taurus ses failed. When it failed the spring broke and punctured the driver's side front tire. Almost had to have vehicle towed to service station since I had difficulty in moving the broken spring to get the doughnut on the vehicle. Luckily this occurred when I was backing the vehicle out of the garage and not when driving down the expressway. I have 129k miles on the vehicle.
Car was parked and put into reverse to back up in drive when tire exploded. Upon examination the drivers side suspension spring had exploded into 2 pieces and ripped into tire.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 20 mph, the front driver's side tire detached from the vehicle and split in half. While my car was sitting in my drive way at my home, the front drivers side spring broke and blew out my tire front tire. . . Shredded it. Thank god I was not driving when it happened.
I was backing the car out of the garage when the drivers side coil spring broke and also punctured the tire.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Taurus. While backing out of a parking lot, the contact heard a large popping noise. When she arrived home, she noticed that the coil spring failed and punctured the tire. The alignment also failed due to the coil spring that split into two pieces. The dealer stated that they would repair the failure at the contact's expense. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 22,469.
Left front spring on my 2002 Taurus broke and the broken end of the spring punctured the tire causing a total tire failure while traveling 65 mph.
Driver's side front spring on 2002 Ford Taurus snapped puncturing tire and damaging "wishbone". Vehicle was parked in garage at the time. Vehicle has 158,000 miles on odometer. Both springs tire(s) and two struts replaced by Ford dealer.
Ford Taurus 2002 front spring broken. Shredded a brand new tire. How many times does this need to happen before something is done about it.
2002 Ford Taurus. My son bought used, driven only 1100 miles in the 6 months he has owned it, mainly to school or work and back. He was backing it out of the garage, front drivers side fell down when the spring broke and spring embedded itself in the tire and tore an 8 inch gash. Very thankful he wad not driving it on the road when this happened. It's in the shop now as I search for recalls. Happened 2 days ago, have not talked to dealer yet but will on Monday (it's Friday now).
I own a 2002 Ford Taurus se which I purchased 5 yrs. Ago, on12/30/08 I walked out to my car to find the passenger side front tire flat. I attempted to pull the tire off and have it repaired but was initially unable to get the tire off due to the spring being broken and stuck inside the side wall of the tire. Apparently, and thankfully this happened while it was parked in my driveway. In researching this problem I found that there have been numerous complaints from other people, and Ford motor CO. Themselves recognized the problem in model years 99-01 but not 2002. I find this odd as I'm sure the same equipment that was used in the 99-01 models can be found in the 2002 models. I intend to have it repaired, as well as replacing the other side as a preventable measure. It would have been nice to have prior knowledge of this problem instead of finding out the hard way. Thankfully my wife, and children who ride in the car often were not driving it when the spring broke. Thank you, r. Wise.
Front right spring snapped on my 2002 Ford Taurus while backing out of the driveway. Blew a hole in the tire as well.
My 2002 Ford Taurus front left spring/strut broke and punctured my tire. I have to admit I'm very grateful that my daughter had put the car in reverse to back out of the driveway when this event took place. She is safe. But this is a serious issue! when I looked for information on a recall on-line, there are many people with this same make that have experience the same results. I insist on buying american, please don't tell me it's no longer safe to buy american. Please investigate this for others safety as well as my families.
Driving about 45 mph when I heard a loud pop and my vehicle swerved to the side of the road. The car would not move and I had to have it towed to the repair shop. They observed that the front driver side spring had broke and cut my driver side tire in half and also damaging front struts and additional suspension parts. He thought Ford would pay for repairs since he has had this happen before and it was covered. Ford informed him 2002 vehicles were not covered and they would pay nothing. This is a very dangerous defect and could have caused a serious accident had there been a car in the lane next to me when it happened. Ford needs to take responsibility for this defect since a internet search of this problem has revealed hundreds of identical incidents. It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed due to this defect!!! in the meantime I am out over $1000. 00 for repairs and am scared to drive this vehicle on the highway for fear that I won't be so lucky next time!!!!!.
Coil spring on vehicle broke.
Broken front springs.
Front spring broke on my 2002 Ford Taurus. The broken spring slashed my brand new tire. Had to have the vehicle towed to a Ford dealership. Spring damaged struts and also needed to be re-aligned.
Strut broke on 2002 Ford Taurus, which in turn punctured tire causing the tire to shred, Ford has recalled this in the 2001 series but not in 2002, yet it seems to be the same issue and have impacted many people in the same manor, so why no recall on this years model. It makes no sense to me. Now this repair will cost over 700. 00 to fix (including tire replacement), seems to me (from what I read) that the recalls are based in part on the impact to safety, had this blow out occurred at a high rate of speed on a highway for example, it could have been a tragedy, why is Ford not recalling this proactive to avoid a disaster, rather than what appears to me they are waiting for disaster before reacting (in my opinion of course).
2002 Ford Taurus front drivers side spring broke driving the spring into the front tire.
I have a 2002 Ford Taurus that had the driver side spring broke this morning, fortunately in the drive way, resulting in a broken axle as well. In researching on line, I found that model years 1999 to 2001 had a recall for this problem and although it is apparently happening on 2002 models (based on internet data) I checked my VIN number on Ford's website and there were no recalls. My son uses this car as well and I cannot imagine what could have happened if he was on the road driving when this spring broke.
The left front spring on the car broke while backing out of the driveway and tore the entire inside portion of the front left tire causing the left side of the car to collapse. The Ford dealer replaced both front springs as well as the abs sensor which was damaged due to the collapse. The car was driven home but the next morning when backing out of the driveway the brakes failed due to a ruptured break line, presumably also from the broken spring. The dealership repaired that at no cost but refused any reimbursement/repairs for the springs or other repairs necessitated by the damage caused due to springs breaking.
