I was on my way to work. When I came to the stop sign to turn on the main road. I felt my car jerk. I thought it was weird and kept driving anyways. Then I noticed the resistance was gone from the gas pedal and it went straight to the floor. So I came to the stop light and kept my foot on the brake. When the light turned green and I had let go of the brakes. My car was accelerating on its own. I had to keep pumping the brakes so I wouldn't crash or hurt anyone. I managed to pull into a mechanic's shop and asked for help. The mechanic told me that it was my cruise control and that it wasn't disengaging. So he had to disconnect it from my car.
For a while now I have noticed that intermittently when barely stepping on the accelerator pedal, the car will accelerate but continue to speed up even with my foot off of the accelerator. I have to step on the break extremely hard to come to a stop, and car will still be doing around 40mph when at a complete stop or light. The check engine light has been on, and I have taken it to a mechanic twice, one of the times he had it for a month trying to figure out what that light is about, checking everything possible, but I am not sure if that light has anything to do with the accelerator.
Random and sporadic acceleration while driving on a city street.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for serviced at an independent mechanic, while in serviced with the contact inside the vehicle, the technician asked the contact was to shift the gear into reversed to check the rear brake lights. The contact stated that when she shifted into reversed, the vehicle accelerated in reversed, the contact depressed the brake pedal but the brake failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle went through the business front glass door and came to a stop on a mayor street. The contact did not sustained injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact residence. The contact mention that she contacted the insurance company for the vehicle and property damage. The vehicle was not yet taken to a dealer for a diagnostic testing nor the manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 164,000. Aw.
Starred recently, when I start the car the rpms rev way up. Past 3000. While driving I constantly have to ride the break or put it in neutral. I literally can drive miles at 45 mph and never touch the accelerator pedal. It would shoot up past 3000 rpms . This car's going to kill someone.

As I was driving to work on the highway the car began to accelerate by itself the brakes were not able to slow the car down the brakes were grinding it against the accelerator the accelerator or the grpm was over 3000 I managed to get the car off of the highway was able to pull into a parking lot but the car would not stop and so I wound up having to hit a pole to stop the car.
The 2005 Ford Taurus has repeatedly accelerated on its own - 6 experiences with this terrifying experience - each time, my daughter's foot was not on the accelerator but the car was increasing in speed. She had to apply a tremendous amount of pressure on the brake to slow then stop the vehicle. Once the Taurus was placed in "park", the engine roared horribly - each time exactly the same roar. . Again, this problem has happened to the vehicle 6 times - with no answers provided for this problem. Each time this has happened, the vehicle was traveling between 35 - 40 mph. This is my third time reporting the problem. I have not received any answers regarding the problem. There hasn't been further investigation into this dangerous problem. I have found on line that this problem has been presented to other Ford Taurus owners for their 2005 Ford Taurus, yet the issue has not been investigated. Why isn't this problem being investigated?.
After driving on the highway the car began to accelerate on its own while trying to come to a complete stop off the exit. The car began to accelerate even more pulling forward although I was pushing down the brakes as hard as I could and the car still drove forward not allowing me to stop until I pulled the gear into neutral to allow me to slow down. I almost crashed right into another car because the accelerator would not allow me to brake (with my child in the car as well). It happened again the next day, and is still a very serious issue. I fear for my life and refuse to drive this car with my children in it as well as the safety of other drivers on the road. This is an extremely dangerous problem and it needs to be addressed and recalled immediately. Someone is going to end up seriously hurt or dead because of this severely dangerous issue. Please do something! also, when putting the car in park the rpm rev's up to 3000/4000 even after turn off the car and restarting it. The car is currently at 95,280 miles.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While the contact's daughter was driving 35 mph, she removed her foot from the accelerator pedal and the vehicle accelerated on its own up a hill. The contact's daughter applied extra pressure to the brake pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle slid into a parking lot and the driver shut off the engine. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and a new battery and alternator were installed. Two days after the repair, the vehicle accelerated on its own again. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 81,000.
The rpm gauge revs and speedometer gauge needle both begin to rise by themselves. This happens either immediately as the vehicle is started or 1-5 miles after shifted into 'drive'. The vehicle accelerates by itself. The vehicle continues to accelerate, climbing to higher and higher speeds while the car's ignition is on. The driver just starts the car and without pushing the accelerator pedal, the car begins to accelerate on its own. You must keep your foot on the brake and the car in park while the car is on. To keep the car from driving on its own when it is shifted into 'drive' or 'reverse', driver must keep brake pedal firmly pressed. Car is not drivable in it's current condition because it is not safe.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 98,000.
This issue occurred about 4 months ago when driving normally. Then, today we were driving up a hill and it started to accelerate without me pushing the gas pedal. The only way to get it to stop was to put it in park and turn the car off but, kept occurring when I turned the car back on. Putting it in neutral did not work. We were in the middle of our city.
Driving on a high-speed highway, when without warning (no check engine light or any other notification), the transmission quit working. I was left unable to accelerate or even maintain my speed; and I had to coast to a stop on an exit ramp as the portion of highway that I was on did not have shoulders on either side. It was very dangerous. The traffic behind me was just as ill-prepared for this sudden deceleration, and I was powerless to do anything other than steer to relative safety. It appears that the torque converter's splines are not properly designed and this is a common occurrence on this specific make, model and year. This defect should be attended to, especially so that there is no injury or loss of life in the future.
The car will start accelerating while parked going up to 4000 rpm, it will also while driving accelerate without foot being on petal. Please call me if you can help 219-810-5800.
While in park, rpms surge at 2000 until shifting into drive or reverse. While driving, barely touching the gas pedal the car gains speed quickly without having to use the pedals, have to keep my foot on the brakes the entire time to keep it steady - its accelerating by itself and takes a lot of effort to keep it stopped. Almost caused me to crash 3 times today out of the blue, once while at a red light with foot on brakes the rpms ran up to 3000 and tried to drive through the brakes, and twice while on city streets it accelerated from 20 to 50 in seconds, causing me to nearly miss a vehicle in front of me. Why my model VIN isn't included in the recall I don't know, because looking at everything online regarding the 05 Taurus my car has all the same issues, which weren't disclosed to me upon purchase because the original owner had no idea. Current mileage 186k.
I was driving at a speed of maybe 45 miles an hour and I took my foot off the gas when approaching a red light. My car continued to accelerate really fast. I tapped the gas hard and it stopped. Since then it does it all the time. Now the car is hesitant and jerking. The transmission warning light recently came on and went away but the acceleration is getting worse each day.
My son was driving the car Sunday February 19 2017 and it started to accelerate on its own at very high rpm. He had a hard time trying to stop the car. We took the car to a repair shop and they believed they found the problem and said we were all set. My son picked up the car and the next day him and myself were in the car on the freeway and it accelerated again on its own. This time I was driving and was able to get it to slow down by tapping the gas pedal to make the acceleration (high rmp) stop happening. But as I drove it would do it again. I was afraid that when we got off the exit I wouldn't be able to get it to stop. It went back to the repair shop and they replaced another part and again today it happened to my son, high acceleration on its own. This is not safe and can not be figured out. I have seen several complains on line about this same problem. People would at least like know how to fix this problem. It s not safe and someone is going to end up hurt. I also had the transmission replaced September 2016 for similar problems. There needs to be recall before someone is hurt. I just want to know how to fix it if no recall. I love my son and do not want him hurt in this car. I want a call from someone regarding this. The care only has 64500 miles and has been well maintained.
I was driving and all of a sudden the car accelerated by it self and I was pressing the brakes and it was very hard to stop I finally put it in neautral and the engine raise to 4000 rpm I turned the car off and the same things happen I kicked the accelerator again and it iddle down again, I put it in drive after a few blocks the same thing happen. I did research on line this a issue with these cars, I called the dealer they said there is no recall can you please help. Thank you gus.
Something is rattling inside my steering wheel behind the horn by the air bag. It sounds like a coin rattling around inside the sterring wheel when I make a turn. When I looked this up on line all I kept reading was it's a common problem but I didn't see anything about a recall. I'm afraid if that air bag was to go off that loose piece floating around in there could put a eye out or worse.
My wife was driving the 2005 Taurus when the engine started making a loud noise, I went to haul the car to the auto mechanic when I came to the car I started it and the engine started to accelerate to over 3000 rpm's w/o touching the throttle, I was able to load the car into a trailer and the next morning when unloading at the auto mechanic again the car accelerated to over 3000 rpm's making it difficult to unload, the noise turned out to be a broken flex joint on the exhaust and with that repaired it stated to idle normally, the car was brought home and my wife started driving it again. As she was driving it to school to drop off the kids the car accelerated again on its own and she had a great difficulty stopping it and had to shut it off on the road, a friend then got the car off the road and parked into the grass because it was still accelerating on its own. The car was then taken back to the auto mechanic to be repaired, it has been there for 4 days and has accelerated for him as well. There is no obstruction with the accelerator, the floor mats have been removed a month ago for cleaning and never put back. No engine codes are being displayed. And system check on car everything checks ok. I do not feel safe driving this car.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to immediately slow down the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000. The VIN was not available.
When I drive my car all of a sudden my engine revs up and my car starts to accelerate on its own. I try to lift the gas pedal and apply the brake but it's hard to try to get the car to stop. When I first stat my car it idles high for a moment but then goes back to "normal" after a minute or two. This is really scary, especially on the highway when you're doing 70mph and car decides to do 90mph out of nowhere.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While driving various speeds and without the accelerator pedal being depressed, the vehicle would independently accelerate without warning. The vehicle also felt as if it were accelerating when the brakes were applied to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times within a 24 hour period. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 142,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving on a city street and nearing a turn. I tried to slow down for the turn, but the car accelerated on its own. I had a hard time getting it to slow down. While all of this was going on, the rpms were going up and down all over the place as the car tried to accelerate.
2005 Ford Taurus with 53,000 miles has a problem that the engine accelerates on it's own while driving. The engine also revs up to 4000rpm in park on its own. Vehicle must be turned off and the accelerator must be pressed hard to "reset" the problem. Based on research online and previous investigation by the NHTSA, this appears to be a common complaint and issue with this model year.
The vehicle accelerates on its own. I was driving going 25 in a residential area when the vehicle went from 25 to 60 on its own. I threw the vehicle in park but the "rpm x 1000" continued to climb pass 3 even while the vehicle was in park. Crazily I pressed the gas pedal and it came back down to normal. I googled the problem. I see that many Ford & Mercury owners have complained of this problem. There should a recall on the Ford Taurus before someone dies.
Car accelerates on its own while driving.
While driving 40 mph my car suddenly excellerated to a very high rate of speed I was on a city street with very few cars at the time but became frightened because the brakes seemed inoperable I had to press very hard and finally the car slowed but this is the second time this has happened in a week I'm afraid to drive it the car has 111200 miles but has been serviced constantly by the Ford dealerships.
As I tried to slow for a traffic light, the car continued to accelerate. I managed to bring it to a stop with the brake, but the engine continued to rev and I could barely keep it from lurching forward. I tapped on the accelerator and the engine went back to normal. At the next light, it did it again. This time I put the car in park and the engine revved to 4000 rpm. I turned the car off, but when I turned it back on, the engine was still at 4000 rpm. I tapped on the accelerator a couple of times and it went back to normal again.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Taurus. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25 mph the vehicle accelerated up to forty mph without touching the accelerator. The contact stated he had to depress the brakes really hard and put vehicle in neutral to stop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,500. Am.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the rpms increased and the engine revved. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on and the vehicle was driven without incident. The failure recurred on three other occasions while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Hello, this is the second time this car's accelerator petal went out of control (Ford Taurus). On yesterday, I had my daughter in the car and the car started to accelerate on it's on faster, faster and faster. It was so scary my daughter said mommy you are shaking. Even while holding the breaks down I was able to slow it down but the car was still moving. This happened previously about 8 months or so ago. That incident was really bad. I had to call 911 while driving down the road unable to stop the vehicle. As I was sliding on my breaks I almost got hit in the back as well as almost hit someone else. This happened in a high speed busy traffice area. I took the car back to the dealer. They told me it was nothing they could do. They first charged me over a hundred dollars to look at it. Then when he did a test drive he refunded my money. I still owe a great deal of money on the car. So, I can't afford pay the car note and purchase a new car. I had contacted the Ford corporate office. They inform me that not enough fatalities have taken place for them to recall the vehicle. I am unable to go to work and have no way of getting there and no money to pay this car off and purchase a new card. I contacted performance Ford on s. Blvd in charlotte during the previous incident. They were nice but sent me home with the same car and now the issues are back again. I am terrified to drive my car, recently divorced with a daughter and college. Can someone please help me.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the engine rpms increased excessively without warning. In addition, while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly surged forward to a speed of 70 mph or higher. The contact had to shift the vehicle into neutral and then park to maneuver the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal to prevent the failure from recurring. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,700.
My daughter-in-law was using the car going approx. 30mph, when she attempted to break, but the car would not slow down and the acceleration remained constant (there was no decelleration until the rpms randomly lowered after flooring the breaks for a considerable period of time) almost causing an accident with the car in front. I then had the car checked out and recieved throttle body work, totalling approx $450. 00 including labor. The condition of the car had not changed, upon arriving at my home there was a strong smell of burnt rubber and smoke rising from the front right hood of the car. I then contacted Ford and was told to get an appointment with a local dealership.
