The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently from 45 mph to 65 mph. The contact stated the accelerator pedal was not being depressed during the failure. The brake pedal was depressed to slow the vehicle to a stop. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected under the hood. The contact noticed that the cruise control cable was jammed up into the accelerator cable which caused the accelerator cable to open. The contact moved the cruise control cable back into the correct position and drove back to their residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.
My car will accelerate on its own without me pressing the gas. This happens at least 4 times a week while I am driving and happens when I am driving between 20 and 50 mph. I can make the engine rev/acceleration stop by quickly tapping on the gas pedal. I have had the cruise control disconnected because my mechanic thought this was part of the problem but the random sef-acceleration has continued and seems to be getting more frequent. This has been going on off and on for a few years but has increased in frequency over the past few months.
Uncontrolled acceleration and cruise control stopped working the same day. Engine accelerates with rpm climbing without any pressure being applied to the gas pedal. The fix for me is to put into neutral and tap the gas pedal which gets the engine to bring the rpm's back down. This happens when driving and in gear usually at less than 50 mph. This has happened everyday for a few weeks. Going to bring it in to be repaired at a Ford dealership.
My car accelerates rapidly even when my foot is off the gas pedal; I notice this begins to happen when I go above 50mph. For example, tonight I was driving at about 55mph when I had to brake to go around a curve; I would say I slowed to around 35/40mph. As soon as I took my foot off the brake, the car began accelerating and went all the way up to 65mph within a few seconds. My foot was not on the gas pedal when this happened, and I had to apply a lot of pressure to the brakes for an extended amount of time to get my car to slow back down. This also happened last night, driving at the same speed, except instead of braking for a curve I had to slow for traffic. Once again, as soon as I took my foot off the brake it accelerated. Sometimes it seems as if the gas pedal is stuck, and if I gently tap it a certain way the acceleration issue is resolved, but other times this solution doesn't work. I researched the issue and see that you began an investigation regarding the problem in 2012, but I do not see any current updates. I haven't had the car very long and don't drive it often, so I just began to notice the issue within the past couple of weeks. I have not taken it to a mechanic yet, but based on similar complaints I'm assuming it's the cruise control issue you are investigating. While I have managed to get the speed under control somewhat easily so far, I'm extremely concerned about losing control entirely.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The brake pedal was applied and the gear shifter was engaged in park; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. In addition, the revolutions per minute increased to high and the cruise control failed to operate. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called the local dealer (rowe westbrook, 91 main street, westbrook, me 04092, (207) 854-2555) and was referred to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. The failure mileage was 127,000.
As the car gets to about 35-40mph it begins to accelerate causing me to have to tap several times the brake to disengage. The cars accelerator will also many times, stick as if its in cruise control, but the cruise control is off. This week I googled how to fix and saw many complaints, recall on almost 500,000 Ford Taurus as well as your pursuit to resolve. I would need it fixed before something serious occurs. Thank you gor uour consideration.
Car accelerated without pushing on the gas pedal. Unable to get the acceleration to stop until the car was shut off. After parking, I found that the cruise control clip had come off the throttle.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently to 55 mph. The contact applied the brake pedal on multiple occasions; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the cruise control cable became disconnected from the throttle linkage which locked the speedometer at 55 mph. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 196,560.
The car takes off without pressing on the gas. Rpm goes up and car continues to accelerate despite pressing on the brakes. Took car to a mechanic and had the idle valve replaced. 2 weeks later the problem continued to persist and mechanic told me the cruise control was detached but suspects it is a problem with the model of car and needed to be recalled. The speeding of the car occurs sporadically, so driving on the road I am not able to predict when it will happen. This is a malfunction that needs to be addressed by Ford for the sake of safety.
On 1/18/2014: I was traveling approximately 45 mph, when all the sudden my 2005 Ford Taurus suddenly started accelerating. I did not have my foot on the gas pedal. When I started to used the brakes it felt like the car was pushing against the brakes. The brakes held and I was able to stop the car. I put the car into park and when I did this the rpm's went to 60000. I quickly turned off the car because I was afraid that I would blow the motor, I let the car sit there for a few minutes. I re-started the motor and the motor was reeving at a high rate and when I put the car in drive it slammed into drive and the car took off. I feel that something is terribly wrong. There are no "check engine" lights on. It feels like the cruise control is engaged, but I continuously pushed the "off" button on cruise control and no light displayed that the cruise control was engaged. I feel this is a defect in the making of this automobile and I'm very concerned that I could have been the cause of a terrible accident. I am forced not to use my car until I can get a mechanic to look it over a diagnosis the situation. I had my 93 year old grandmother traveling with me on this day and I am fortunate that I was not in a serious accident. I am reporting this situation because, I wonder if other 2005 Ford Taurus have had the same issues & reported & maybe have even not been as luck as I, and have been in serious accidence due to this issue that should be re-called by Ford. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the cruise control caused the vehicle to accelerate and decelerate independently. The vehicle was not inspected and was not diagnosed. The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86000.
While driving with my some in the car on an interstate, I tried to set my cruise control. The cruise would register that it was set but it would not hold the speed that was set. After a little while my car accelerated on its own. After trying to apply the brakes, which just sounded like it was grinding the brakes because it didn't want to idle down. Put the car in neutral, the rpms revved over 4000 and the same when I switched to drive. I shut the car off and upon turning the car back on the rpms went over 4000 rpm again. I talked to Ford and they said since there was no recall that there was lot bing they could do for me. I think that something needs to be done.
Y vehicle experienced unexpected high rpm and uncontrollable high speeds. It was first discovered when accelerating up to 40 mph, and suddenly the speed increased with the rpm going up to 4,000. The gas pedal was untouched and the speed continued to increased. The driver immediately applied the brakes to stop but the rpm remained at 4,000 rpm, while at a stop, the driver changed the drive shaft to neutral, and the vehicle continued to go at 4,000 rpm. This would go on for about 3-4 miles, and suddenly go back to normal mode. Then the symptoms would return again unexpectedly. This behavior has been ongoing since December 5th, and it is worse when the vehicle is on the freeway. The speed control would also become erratic once it hits 60 mph. The driver would change shift to neutral or to d mode just to disrupt the erratic speed behaviors. The symptoms would go away "on its own". In addition, I found that the cruise control is not operational at this time . The cruise control can be turned on but the cruise control is not engaged or is not holding the speed. I have done a thorough check on the engine looking for any damages, any leaks in the intake air pipes, or faulty sensors and found nothing, but from resources, I learned that it may be a faulty cruise control operation. It is now a safety concern, for me as the driver but for my children and my wife.
As I was accelerating, and get to around 40 or 45mph, the car would lunge forward and the speed would suddenly increase even if I wasn't pushing the accelerator. Then I would try to slow down the car and it would be jerking and would come to a stop finally, but the rpm would be to over 4,000 or even 5,000. It would do it for a few miles then suddenly go back to running normal. I also noticed the cruise control is not working since the car stated doing this. I took it to a mechanic and all they could find wrong with the car was that the throttle body plates were covered in gunk and they cleaned them, and I needed to replace my idle air intake valve which I had both done. From time to time the car will still accelerate suddenly without warning, and I am afraid I am going to either blow the engine from the high rpm's or run into someone if I can't get the car slowed down in time.
As I was exiting off the interstate,my cruise control failed to shut off. Applying the brake I was barely able to stop my car before rear ending someone, and the rpm was staying around 2000. I then noticed that the gas pedal was sticking and that the cruise control was no longer coming on. Now the cruise control will come on while going down the road on its on and the gas pedal is sticking. This all occurred when the cruise control started acting up. This almost cause a horrible accident.
Slowing from highway speed had difficulty slowing, tachometer reading 2400rpm, continued braking slowed the vehicle. At a stop, took car out of gear, engine reved up, tapped accelerator then rpms dropped to 700rpm. Second occurance happened 3 weeks later in local traffic. Speed without touching accelerator about 40mph at 2400rpm, tapping accelerator petal recovered control. No incidences since but cruise control is now non functional (related?).
On the morning of January 30, 2013; I was driving to work approximately at 8 am and noticed my car became difficult to stop. It appeared to be accelerating when I was not touching the gas and had to apply excessive force on the brake to allow the car to stop. Immediately upon releasing the brake pedal the car would quickly accelerate to 15-20 mph. This continued on and off for my entire 15 mile commute to the office. Stepping heavily on the gas pedal seemed to stop the problem (seemed as if the pedal was stuck down). Placing the car into neutral was the only sure way to stop the acceleration. On January 31, 2013; the same problem occurred again. However, this time it happened at higher speeds. I was driving at 65 mph without having to touch the gas as if the cruise control was set to 65. However, the cruise was off. Again. . . Heavily pressing the gas pedal stopped the acceleration. Again, placing the car into neutral was the only sure way to stop the problem. Both mornings were foggy/rainy and very humid. The problem is intermittent, but I believe Ford needs to immediately correct this issue with recalls as a person who is less comfortable driving or just not very calm could definitely have an accident if they panic.
I was on the interstate going about 70. I put on the cruise control but it wouldn't engage. I tried several times then gave up. Not 5 minutes later I tried to go slower, about 65, and the car sped up to 70 on its own. I was confused because the cruise control light was not lit, whereas it was lit when it wouldn't work. I pressed the off button many times but it kept trying to accelerate. My friend was trying to make me pull over but I was scared because the engine was racing and it seemed like the brakes were sluggish. I finally stopped on the shoulder & turned off the car. I was freaking scared because I was in the middle of nowhere. When I turned the car back on it immediately began to race, way up over the 3000 rpms. When I put it into drive it lurched forward. We had to get somewhere, so my friend started driving. I was shaking. It unstuck by itself but continued to do it several times. And I never touched the cruise control again. It does it going 30mph, 60mph, whenever it feels like. I don't have money to fix this & this car has only 50,000 miles on it! I'm scared it's going to do it & the brakes fail when I try to slow down.
Driving around 35mph vehicle started to accelerate on its own. Hit brake but rpm's still climbed. Hit brake again and fixed issue. Also cruise control stopped working around the same time. Has happened 3 times since first incident. Have to smash accelerator repeatedly to fix issue. Very scary feeling and will not let wife drive kids around in this vehicle. After reading the 100's of complaints on internet describing this exact same issue cannot believe Ford has not issued a recall on this problem yet. This is literally an accident waiting to happen. Have owned car since 2007 and this is the first major issue we have had with this vehicle.
Noticed 2 days prior that the cruise control no longer worked. Then, the car suddenly hit about 4,000 rpm without my foot on the gas pedal while driving 45 mph. After I braked and pull off the road it was still running high rpm without touching the gas. After I tried to start it again it went straight to 2500 rpm and stayed there, while in park and foot on the brake (not the gas). Had to have it towed. Very scary, very dangerous. Ford need to pay for this/recall it.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while traveling 55 mph the cruise control switch was engaged and when the brakes were depressed the vehicle accelerated un-expectantly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 122,780 and the current mileage was 122,800.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning. The contact mentioned that after inspecting the vehicle she noticed that the cruise control cable had detached. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 120,000. . . . . Updated 08-24-12 updated 08/30/2012.
I had noticed on several occasions that the gas pedal seemed to stick and the engine seemed to rev and the rpm needle would increase to 3500 or more even though I had my foot on the brake. After a couple of minutes, the engine would return to normal. Last week, my cruise control would not work, although I was able to turn on the word cruise on the dash when I pushed the on and set buttons, but the cruise did not take hold. The engine continues to rev up when I start the car and when I bring the car to a stop. .
I was traveling on a city road when I noticed my speed kept increasing. I had to keep braking to slow it down. It has happened more than once. The most scary part is when I was traveling down a highway going 60 mph when it started speeding up on its own. I even took my foot off the gas pedal and it still kept increasing speed. It was over 70 and still going. I managed to slow it down (very hard to do, afraid the brakes would fail). Turning it off did no good. When I started it up again, it was still racing. I kicked it down and went on my way. I do not use my cruise control at all. I have very low milage for the age of my car. When I start my car up after it's been sitting for a while, the engine races. I give it a minute to rev down and then go on my way. This has happened at least a dozen times over the past two yrs. It makes me afraid to go fast at all.
I was driving at 35-40 mph when the car accelerated on its own. I have to depress the brake to stop the car at a traffic light but the car still battled hard to go. I parked at a nearby parking lot and shift to parking. The engine rpm went to 4000 quickly and I shut off the engine. I turned the engine on and off a couple of time and it did the same thing every time. I tapped the gas pedal really hard and it went back to normal. The day before this incident, cruise control quit working for about 3 hours and functioned well again. Meanwhile, the gas pedal is really sticky and I have very rough idle in the morning. I searched the web for solution and obviously a lot of people have experienced the identical problem already. Just want to urge Ford recall this vehicle ASAP. I'm willing to provide any information NHTSA in order to ensure the security of thousands of Ford customers.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator and when he removed his foot from the pedal, the vehicle continued to independently accelerate. The failure continued for approximately two miles until the vehicle stopped accelerating independently. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where they provided minor maintenance to the vehicle several times. The repair shop replaced the idle air control valve also but the failure recurred. The repair shop also disconnected the cruise control as a precautionary measure. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileage was 140,000.
My wife and I were out driving our 2005 Ford Taurus when the car started accelerating on it's own. I was trying to brake and the car continued to increase in speed. I wasn't using the cruise control at the time, I seldom do, but the cruise control doe's work though. I finally had to break hard and put it into neutral to get it stopped and the engine rpm's were going really high, between 4000-5000 rpm's. The vehicle has done this numerous times since and is highly dangerous! my wife is afraid of the vehicle and don't even want to drive it! this is a very serious safety issue and seems to be a problem for most of Ford Taurus owners on this web site in this year range of Ford Taurus vehicles. A safety recall should be established so that Ford can correct this very dangerous problem. Please don't wait until someone is killed before you do something about it. Thanks in advance!.
I was turning left into the side road leading to my home when the vehicle suddenly accelerated. I applied the brakes (to no avail) and then shifted into neutral. Engine rpm exceeded 3000. After tapping the accelerator pedal several times the engine returned to idle speed. I continued and turned left into my driveway and the same situation occured. It has not happened again although my cruise control no longer works. I can turn it "on" and when I press "set accel" the cruise light on the dash comes on but the cruise control won't engage.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the cruise control failed. A week later, the vehicle began to accelerate on its own. The failure continued to occur. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 83,000. The VIN was unavailable.
While driving down first street in winter haven, florida the vehicle began to accelerate even though the cruise control was not engaged. The only way to prevent an accident was to put the gear shift in neutral because the engine was overriding the brakes. I had the cruise control disconnected and I haven't had that problem since.
Driving on interstate and gas pedal got stuck at 70 mph, I tried turning off the cruise control (which I didn't have on), tried braking and slowed to 60 mph when I let off the brake it accelerated on its own back to 70 mph finally had to put car in neutral and turn off ignition and coast to a stop. Also since then sometimes when I start the car in the morn it will rev to 3000 rpm and stay they until u turn off the car. Cruise control quit working the day before the gas pedal stuck on the interstate.
Ford Taurus 2005 has been auto-accelerating, random but frequent enough to be a concern. The worst case involved an approach to a red traffic light and the brakes had to be forced and the auto placed in neutral, where rpm was over 3000 on its own. The car restarted at the traffic light, temporarily at idle rpm, but similar issue at the next traffic light 0. 5 miles away. Shut the car down again and restarted. Drove it home without incident. Next day, no abnormal behavior. Prior to this most serious issue, the car has occasionally stayed at speed on the highway or accelerated on its own without the gas pedal pressed and no cruise control engaged. Car taken to the dealer for review but they stated they could not reproduce. Suggested new parts address car idling as a potential solution but could not guarantee resolution.
My throttle has begun sticking on a regular basis, and this started at the same time my cruise control stopped working. While driving at any speed, my accelerator will increase on its own until I lightly tap the gas pedal a couple of times. This also happened several months ago (July 2011), but I had a rear-end collision (not due to this problem) that caused extensive damage to the front end. After the garage repaired my car, both throttle and cruise control were working fine for the next nine months, but now the problem has started again. A local garage has said they can find no cause.
When traveling my daily drive to work, I first noticed that the cruise control would not engage. My return trip home on the same day was frightening. I was traveling at approx. 35-40 mph. When I tried to slow the car down as I descended a hill, the car instead accelerated. This happened one more time in my 25 minute drive. I stopped at the bank drive through, with my car still in drive, but with my foot on the break. The car tried to advance and I had to stand on the brake hard and put the car into neutral. This same acceleration happened again while I was on the highway at close to 65 mph. Really frightening! we let the car sit for a week and my husband, who is a mechanic, took the car to work to see if it would happen to him. On his fourth day of driving the car, it did it to him as well - while traveling on a heavily congested highway. We started to look on line to see how to fix this and I see that it is an ongoing problem with this car. I checked the Ford website and there is not a recall, but there should be.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact stated while driving 35 mph the vehicle accelerated abnormally. The contact had to put the vehicle in neutral to get the rpms to decrease. The failure recurred numerous times and in some cases, the contact had to shift to park to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and he requested the dealer to disconnect the cruise control but could not confirm if that would remedy the failure. The manufacturer was notified but offered little assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.
