I was driving down freeway when car kept accelerating after I had taken foot off of gas pedal. Exited freeway and had to use both feet on brake pedal to get car to slow down. At this point, the engine rpm's were stuck at 4000 and engine was revving as high as it could go. I managed to get car home and at that point, I started car back up and the engine was still revving all the way up to 4000 rpm's. So, I stepped on the gas pedal ( while in park ) a few times and it returned to normal rpm's. But now, I cannot use the cruise control. This has happened 2 times so far. The second time I was on residential street and I turned a corner and car would not slow down when I applied brakes. So I simply put car in neutral and suddenly the engine begin to rev up to 4000 rpm's again so I stepped on gas pedal about 10 times and eventually it returned to normal rpm levels.
I was driving at approximately 40 mph when I was approaching a red light. I took my foot off the gas pedal and hit the brakes and had to used two feet to stop the car. The motor was still trying to drive me forward. I reached down and pulled the gas pedal up and the engine slowed down. This was a one time occurrence for me so far, but I read the issues with the Taurus cruise control and was wondering if this has anything to do with that issue? I did not have the cruise on during the incident and it does not even work at this point. It just stopped working about 6 months ago.
I bought car from maple street auto - picked up car on 02/24/2012 I notice when I start car - the rpm goes up to high rpm compare to other cars I owned - like Dodge caravan and Ford windstar when I put car into "d" - 97 percent of the time takes of and excessive brakes applied while driving most time - I notice the car changes out and takes off appreciable even on a flat surface when coming to a stop light - the car wants to keep going and brakes has to be applied hard even when slowing down once again - I am applying brakes a lot as car keeps going. For the record, I have no speeding violation, no accidents and I have to be careful when driving as the car tend to speed up at times. I also was warned not to use the cruise control by the seller (maple street auto).
First incident, 2/6/2012 - my gas pedal seemed to get stuck and the rpms went up to about 3000 when driving. Had to keep the brake pedal mashed to the floor when I was at a stoplight as the car wanted to pull away from me. Second incident 3/10/2012 - at a stoplight in stop-and-go traffic, car wanted to pull away from me and rpms were above 3000. Pulled over to a parking spot and car was hard to get into park. Once in park, the rpms were over 5000 and I had to tap on the gas to get the rpms to decrease down to 1000. I also shut the car off to drop the rpms. Cruise control will now not work. Purchased car new in July 2005, car only has 78k miles.
We purchased this used 2005 Ford Taurus vehicle from a neighbor who stated that he has had "a problem with the accelerator occasionally getting stuck, and he frequently keeps it lubricated to help with the problem", upon the test drive prior to our purchase we did not encounter the problem so we purchased it with 87,886 miles on it. We immediately started having problems that week when we started driving it on a daily basis. The problems that we had were sudden acceleration at low driving speeds of 25 miles per hr. That resisted and would not slow down upon braking and only slowed down upon hard braking and by putting the car in neutral, this sudden acceleration also occurred at speeds of 35 miles per hr. And while the car was in park !!! there was no correlation between this sudden acceleration and the gas pedals position. We went online to investigate the problem and found out that numerous car owners have had the same complaints, but nothing has been done about it all these years, one person online recommended disconnecting the cruise control because it worked for him. We immediately disconnected the cruise control and the problem with the sudden acceleration ceased, but every once in a while the car's engine gets a sudden surge like it is being "rev ved up". It would be nice to have a vehicle that performed properly and was not a safety danger on the road. I am alarmed at how many other Ford Tauruses are out there in inexperienced driver's hands who are not informed enough to have the cruise control disconnected, or who can not think quick enough to put the car in neutral while braking. I shudder thinking about all the teen and elderly drivers I pass on the road driving these cars. We really miss our cruise control too! please act on this ASAP!!!.
My 2005 Ford Taurus will accelerate itself when driving at slow speeds. Hitting the gas pedal has alleviated the problem. When the brakes are applied, the car will stop, but the engine still revs up. Other issues I have noticed is that the cruise control will go out, then it will begin working again. At higher speeds, the steering wheel vibrates even though I have had my alignment checked, new tires, new belts, injectors cleaned, and my tires rotated. The Ford dealership had never heard of the acceleration problem, and even though they tried to fix it in December 2011, it still occurs. In February 2012, my alternator went out, so after installing a new alternator and battery, my cruise control once again no longer worked and my car starting accelerating itself up the hill. Eventually, my cruise control began working again, but I am very worried about the time I may not be able to stop my car from accelerating. I take my two year old nephew to daycare every day, and I am worried about both of our lives on a daily basis.
The accelerator will often get stuck and rev the engine in upwards of 4k rpm, even if stopped. I have had the vehicle nearly run into oncoming traffic while at a stop light. The same time this issue came to light, the cruise control no longer works, and I believe the issues are related.
I was taking my daughter to school one day and I had to brake while I was coming up behind someone. When I pressed my brake, I could feel my car still trying to go. . Almost as if I were pressing the gas and the brakes at the same time. When the car wouldn't come to a complete stop, I put it in neutral and the rpms went up to 4,000-4,500. I tapped on the gas a couple of times while it was in neutral and the acceleration finally stopped. The same thing occurred again while I was in walmarts parking lot. Again, I had to put it in neutral and tap the gas to get the acceleration to stop. When my car is idling, the rpms fluctuate between 1,000 and 2,000 as if I would be tapping on the gas, but the gas pedal isn't being touched. I have read other peoples complaints, and some have said the problem may have been the cruise control, but my cruise control has never worked; I bought my car used. I have not yet had an accident over it, but I'm sure it is only a matter of time. This definitely needs to be checked into.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact was driving 25 mph when the accelerator pedal seized, after being depressed, causing the vehicle to increase acceleration. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 72,000. Updated 05/08/lj the consumer stated the problem happened on a regular basis, usually when accelerating from a stopped position. The consumer also stated the cruise control was inoperative. Taping the gas pedal seemed to release it from the stuck position. Updated 05/21/12.
Going 35mph I noticed the car kept going faster. I thought gas pedal was stuck and tried to get foot under it to pry it up and noticed it was floppy. I then tried to pump brakes and car would not slow. I made it through green light intersection but when car stopped in front of me I put car in neutral. By this time I was totally panicked, there was no place to pull over so I rode brakes the rest of the way home, pulled in driveway and shut engine off and brakes were stinking. When my husband started it later and drove to repair garage they told us the cruise control clip broke off and caused it to stick till it reset itself. When I called the Ford dealer first, they said they could not do anything because the gas pedal was not sticking. Needless to say I had $1500 work done on engine that had a horrible noise from day one after incident. Being a 61 year old female I'm scared to drive over 40mph because I'm afraid it will do this again.
Our 2005 Ford Taurus throttle sticks as if the cruise control is on, when in fact it is not. The cruise control no longer works. Shortly after the cruise control stopped working is when the throttle started to stick and increase speed. We have not had any accidents yet, but some close calls.
I was driving down the highway approaching an intersection. As I let off the accelerator and applied the brakes, the car lurched forward like the cruise control was on, but it wasn't. It continued to accelerate and I was narrowly able to avoid a collision with the car in front of me. Since that time I had several reoccurrances of this same problem. Some while driving. Some while sitting still. This is obviously an issue, and I am wondering how many people have to die until a recall is issued for this problem.
Unintended acceleration twice within a matter of minutes. Both times the vehicle required shifting to neutral to stop. The second time the engine continued to rev at 4,000 rpms even after restarting the vehicle. The local tech stated that the problem had something to do with the cruise control cable and throttle. The problem appears to be fixed now, but this was an extremely dangerous situation. P. S. ? there are several online blogs discussing the same issue for the same year, make, and model.
For approximately the last year, off and on, the throttle will stick causing the car to accelerate. It usually happens at low to midrange speeds accelerating to at least 60 mph if left unchecked. Punching the accelerator pedal will usually release the pedal. Occasionally, when it happens on an open road with no traffic and I have the time to try different things I have found that turning the cruise control button to on (although the cruise control light will come on, the cruise control hasn't worked in over a year) while pushing the set button and then pushing coast, the accelerator pedal will release with an audible pop. Sometimes this occurs several times a day, sometimes only once or twice a week.
On three separate occasions, while driving between 30-40 mph, the throttle "stuck". I was not using cruise control in any of these cases. It was difficult to get the car to slow down - required extreme brake pressure - when I shifted into neutral, the engine rpm went well above 3000 rpm. I shut off the engine, waited a minute or two, and restarted the car. Everything seemed to be completely normal. This happened two more times over the next several weeks. In each case when I shut off the engine and restarted it, all seemed to be normal. I took the car to a local auto mechanic, and he was unable to replicate my experience. He said he suspected the problem was related to the cruise control, and that a repairs could be several hundred dollars. Or he could simply disconnect the cruise control. I chose the later.
My car began to accelerate with very little pressure on the gas pedal. I pushed the brakes all the way down but brakes wouldn't stop the car. The engine revved so high I had no choice but to just shut the car off. I then tried to restart the car and it revved really high again. I have had it towed and worked on twice and the throttle keeps getting stuck. Ill be driving and it just get stuck and I have a hard time getting it to stop with my brakes. My cruise control is no longer working as well.
I first notice that the cruise control had stop working after that a little while later I would be driving along and the car would pick up speed on its own I would press the brake but that wouldn't slow it down so I hit the gas petal and finally the speed would drop. I feel so unsafe what if this is to happen on a rainy or icy day I could hurt myself or someone else what can I do that's not going to be costly?.
I was traveling at approximately 35 mph when car began accelerating and continue to accelerate and reached speed of approximately 50mph. I managed by applying brakes continuously to slow down and pull in parking lot. I put engine in neutral and engine continued at high rpm. I turned car off and started it back up several times before I tried pressing gas pedal to floor several times. Car then idled at normal idle speed. It seemed to be ok at this point but when I began driving again this happened several more times. If I put car in neutral and floored gas pedal it returned to normal rpm. I have had this reoccur 6 or 7 times since then and putting in neutral, flooring gas pedal resolves problem. I do not use cruise control often but when I tried to use it this summer it no longer works.
Was traveling on a 4 lane highway at 45 mph. When I turned the cruise control on, all of the sudden the engine started to accelerate on it's own causing me to almost run a red traffic light. I hit the brakes hard a couple times and got it stopped.
While driving the car just accelerated on its own and the cruise control quit working. To date the cruise control still doesn't work and the accelerator will go on its own.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Taurus. The contact was traveling 35 mph when vehicle abnormally accelerated after the accelerator pedal was no longer being depressed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the mechanic confirmed that the cruise control caused the acceleration failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired and the VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
My car began to try to rev up and try to go really fast . I had to slam on brakes and turn the motor off. After doing this I took it to a mechanics and was told my switch for the cruise control had popes off and stuck in my ignition and caused my car to excelerate. I almost killed myself several times. This also damaged my transmission. I have not been able to drive my car for years. I know nothing will be done but you should know. Elaine berry 7434 bruno way sacramento CA 95828 . I will never buy another Ford. I called in a complaint to your president year's ago and never got a response. If anyone cares my number is 916)914-5917🙄.
2005 Ford Taurus - we have begun experiencing problems with surging rpm's/acceleration, which recently almost caused my wife to get into an accident. Replacing the throttle control sensor did not resolve. The cruise control also stopped working. This needs to be investigated and a recall initiated before deaths result.
You would accelerate up to speed, then after taking your foot off the accelerator the car kept at that speed. The cruise control was not on. This happened multiple times,I would put the car in neutral and press the accelerator to bring it back to normal. Had it fixed by independent mechanic and was told the cruise control was getting caught. I just called Ford motor CO because it is happening again at 194000 miles. Was told they know nothing about the problem. Very dangerous when this occurs.
Have a 2005 Ford Taurus flex fuel. When stopped at a stop sign it accelerated like the gas pedal was to the floor! had to put it in neutral to stop it. Now all of a sudden my steering wheel is making a strange sound like marbles rolling around in it and my cruise control won't engage. The light on the dash board lights up as though it is working but you take your foot off the gas and it slows down. I have seen recalls for the Taurus before and after the 2005 model for fire hazard with the cruise control going out but not for the 2005. They need to recall it and fix before a class action lawsuit is filed or someone dies!.
Our company has 2 of the 2005 Ford Taurus. Both bought new from Ford dealer. Within weeks of each other in year 2009, we experienced major problem with both. The vehicles would accelerate while driving and if cruise control was on at the time, the driver could not brake or turn cruise off to get vehicle to slow down. This first happen on the highway. Then it happened on city street at stop, both vehicles would rev rpms when at a stop to the point that the driver would have to keep both feet on the brake described as "with as much force as they could" and put car in neutral to keep vehicle still. These were both taken to the dealership at which they bought and no recall had shown up for the service dept. After two attempts to fix what they thought was wrong, to no avail, the service dept finally experienced it first hand while bringing vehicle in to service dept. Not sure what the fix finally entailed. I have recently read an article speaking of the investigation into stuck throttle on the 2005 models and wanted to make sure these incidents were reported. We still have these vehicles in our fleet.
