2001 Ford Taurus has premature and excessive corrosion. Transmission leak taken in for repair and shock of nearly depleted lip on the frame holding motor in place. One good bump and what was left of the lip would have given way dropping the motor and I would have lost my 21 year old son, possibly my handicapped 23 year old son, their friends or girlfriends that often travel in this car. I have kept the parts. We are still in the repair mode as the rear stabilizers are also in corrosion and need replaced. Car will also need realligned afterwards. I too have been told of the failure on the minivans for same things. I understand other Ford products have been coming in for the same parts failing. I have the young inexperienced driver that I believed would be more safe in your product. My children are my life!!!! I see so many of these cars being driven and people unaware of the danger that lerks beneath. By the grace of god the car leaked and got my son off the road in barely the knick of time. It makes me sick to look at the piece so close to devastation. Do something about it!!!!!!! someone needs to let people know of this danger and now before we lose our precious most valuable thing in our lives, our children!!!!! what else is lerking under there that I am not aware of? it is bad enough worrying about the idiot drivers on the road. Now I'm worrying about serious car failure too. Signed: mother of owner of faulty product.

My 2001 Ford Taurus has been plagued by premature and excessive corrosion. I have previously filed for the coil springs snapping in half- now my frame has failed. While driving my car started swaying- I held the steering wheel tightly but the car wandered on it's on. Upon inspection of the vehicle at home , it was obvious that frame failed. When the vehicle was inspected by a nys facility I was told that excessive rust was an issue. I was also told that they see this on the Taurus regularly and have failed vehicles due to this issue. I contacted Ford , they said out of warranty. They do not sell replacement frames and suggested I purchase an aftermarket frame and have repairs done. This is a huge safety issue. I have been driving for 37 years and was able to recognize that there was a safety issue with my vehicle, young new drivers without experience will continue to drive these vehicles. I am requesting that the NHTSA look in to the premature failure of major components in the Taurus due to low grade material use. The Ford company was required to recall minivans with this same issue- yet the Taurus which Ford says is one of its best selling vehicles has been completely ignored when it comes to safety and customer satsfaction. If this vehicle were manufactured by Toyota it would have been recalled years ago. Shame on the powers that be that allow this situation to continue. The car has not been repaired as new oe parts are not available, used parts are not an option due to the fact that they also will be rotted beyond use. I had a 1940s Dodge parked in a farm field by a previous owner that had less rust than this vehicle had when it was under 5 years old. What does that say about quality?.
1998 Ford Taurus with relatively low miles. Always cared for. Mechanic informed me it has a rotted subframe. This holds the engine and transmission. Dealer stated there are no recalls for this model year. The car (which is in otherwise excellent condition) is unsafe to drive at this point. 3 independent mechanics were surprised to see this level of rot in a car of this condition.

Clunking sound emanating from engine compartment. Took in for oil change, was told that the engine cradle ( sub-frame ) was dangerously rotted out. Cradle replaced with one without rot.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being inspected for regular maintenance, the mechanic discovered that the sub frame was severely corroded. The dealer advised the contact not to drive the vehicle and to have the sub frame replaced immediately before doing so. The manufacturer was contacted who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 94,000.
The frame under the front of my car has rotted away due to road salt. I see Ford has a recall on older models for the same problem. Loss of stearing occured when the frame let go.

The front driver side spring coil broke causing a large gash in the tire and instant deflation. Had been parked in the driveway and shifted into reverse. Pressed the gas pedal and the tire seemed to explode with a loud sound and debris. I understand that earlier models of the Ford Taurus have been recalled (breaking coil springs recall no. 04v332000) and fixed but the recall has not been extended to newer models. The problem still exists, the danger still exists and the cost to fix the problem still exists.
I own a 1997 Ford Taurus wagon. Emphasis on wagon. It has the same frame as the windstar vans and I have the same problem. My engineer husband, who spent years in the auto industry, will not allow me to drive the car as, “the car is going to break in half when you are driving down the road. € I had it towed to our local repair shop and they verified the same. I called the Ford recall department in detroit after seeing the windstar recall on the local news. Ford told me to have it fixed and save the slip in case a few years from now it was part of a recall I might be able to be reimbursed. This repair is thousands of dollars. I am on chemo with a CO-pay of $3102. 98 and fifteen doses to go. I can either not live and buy a car or live and not have a car. After explaining this to the Ford rep I was told to contact you. There is no excuse for this corrosion problem and I do not feel I should have to pay for what is already a recall issue. The Ford case number is 39032281.
The contact owns a 1998 Ford Taurus. The contact noticed oil leaking from the vehicle while it was parked in the garage. He later discovered that the engine's subframe was corroded on the rear passenger side. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that the metal where the subframe bushing was attached was corroded. The mechanic also stated that there was no known remedy for the defect. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls; therefore, they were not liable for the repairs. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 157,954 and failure mileage was 157,947. Updated 12/10/08 updated 12/16/08.
In June 2008 I started my regular yearly maintenance schedule of my 1998 Ford Taurus wagon. I had my oil change & rotated/balanced my tires. In October 2008 I had two tires replaced (all of my service was done @ a Ford dealership in my city) and a multi-point inspection for my vehicle inspection. The mechanic advised me that my car needed rear shocks, as the outer casing was rotted! left inner te rod was loose & front brakes were worn. I went in on oct 23, 2008 and had all of the work done!,$417. 45 for front brakes, resurfaced front rotors; replaced front inner tie rod. Then on 11/10/08 I went in to have my vehicle inspected and was advised that it failed, the rocker panels were rotted out! I made an appt for 11/19/08 to find out how much it would cost to fix this & learned that the rocker panels were not available from Ford & that I needed to fabricate new ones! my car, which had 142,555 miles on it, which I thought to be in perfect condition, did not pass inspection because of sub-frame rot! this vehicle has only been serviced by Ford dealerships, who had just pocketed $621. 45 of my money to perform work on a car that they refused to inspect! in searching for estimates to repair this damage I learned that all Taurus' rusted in the same place! under the rocker panel covers, right where mine was rotted. I was told by every company to junk my car! I called Ford to express my concerns and was only told "your car is no longer under warranty". I just learned today about recalls on Ford vehicles due to subframe rot! my car is still sitting in my driveway. I have been unable to fix it and have not junked it yet because I am so saddened that it was never fixed by Ford. I have every receipt for all the work performed on my car and would like my car to be included in the updated recalls on Ford vehicles! thank you. Susan grant, rochester nh.
Ford has not included the 97 Taurus wagon-we have in the front end et. Motor cradle, frame failure, in the recall, they have years both sides. I have lost all trade in value on this veh. And it could have been very dangerous, had it not happened in my driveway-- the frame on both sides failed and the car can not be driven, if this had happened on the open road it would have been a disaster/ steering would have been impossible-- they are getting away with this, just by limiting the years covered-- it is happening to all Taurus' with the same front frame prob. It has cost me a very good car with only 80k miles on it, and made it impossible to get a trade on a new veh. I still have the car in my yard for inspection, if anyone is interested, which I doubt. I can't afford to get an attorney to fight this, and I think there are many other users in the same boat- poss. Some of them injured in accidents because of this, you have my e-mail if another questions need clarifying thanks.
Frame (motor cradle) rusted right off both sides and let the front end of car drop down- prevented steering very dangerous-- happened in drive way luckily.
My 2002 Ford Taurus leaks water through the right side of my front windshield and gets water all over my passenger side floor board, sometimes 1/2 an inch deep. The leak has also gotten into my blower fan for my heater/ac and caused it to short out. This makes my car very humid making all of the glass fog up when I am driving to where I cannot see the road. I can't even turn my defroster on because of the blower fan motor that got shorted out from the water leak. I use a rag now to wipe the moisture away with one hand and drive with the other. If it is below freezing, there will actually be a layer of frost on the inside of my front and rear windshields!, which is tough to get all the way off due to the concavity of the glass. I thought that I had just left my window slightly cracked the first few times there was water on my floor board. The first time I noticed the water leaking in was when I had a passenger in my car and the water squirted onto his foot as I was backing down my driveway on a clear day. That means that the water collects somewhere behind the glove box and under the dashboard, after a steady rain, and when the degree of my car changes the water comes pouring in. I saw it with my own eyes the next time it happened. There was a steady steam of water for about 5 seconds, about 1 1/2 cups of water total. I have seen this happen at least 3 times with varying amounts of water. To correct this failure, I went online and found out that my model of car had been recalled in 2003 for a loose windshield mount that could let water leak in. But when I took it to the dealership they said that my VIN wasn't up for any recalls. So, somehow my car got left off the list of recalled cars. They refused to fix it since it wasn't in the computer to be fixed, meaning they wouldn't get paid. Also, my rear windshield creaks when I am driving which means that it is affected too. I am scared that one day I will be an the interstate and one of my windshields will just fly off.
I have a 2006 Ford Taurus I bought a little over 2 years ago. It's seems like every other month or every 2 to 3 months I have to have a 4 wheel alignment. I have had the 4th set of tires I've had to have put on my car. The 1st 3 sets the dealer had to pay to have brand new ones put on. I had to spend over $800 to have 4 brand new tires and 2 brand new struts put on my car. Now 2 of the tires have begun cupping on the inside. I had to get 2 brand new tires put on just 2 weeks ago and the alignment had to be done again. I had to pay for the new tires. But all this is a little over 2 years to all these ties. No car should ever have to have 4 sets of tires put on there car. I believe my cars frame has been damaged or bent. It belonged to a rental car agency before I bought it form prime Toyota in saco maine. It was certified also. I got the car with a little over 27,00 miles on it. It now has a little over 82,00 on it. But still regardless of the miles or years there is no way that 4 sets of tires should;ve had to be put on my car. Just about everytime I get the alignment checked it cost me $ 40 and then more if adjustments are to be made. I don't have this kind of money. The car fax shows nothing.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. While inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the subframe was loose. The contact stated that the vehicle and the steering wheel shake when driving at speeds of 60 mph or greater. The vehicle is experiencing the same failure as noted in NHTSA recall # 98v323000 (structure:frame and members). The manufacturer stated that the recall repair was previously remedied. The contact took the vehicle to the Ford dealer who stated that the recall repair was not remedied. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 136,000 and failure mileage was 133,000.
The 1996 Taurus that I drive had a thud/clanking noise under the floor boards on the right side. Replaced brakes, and while the car was jacked up I found extreme rust through on the passenger's rear on the subframe carriage and carriage bolt. This car was no longer being driven. This vehicle only has 115,000 miles on it. This should not be rotted out. The dealer informed me that any repairs we not covered by any warranty or recall, and that they have letters from Ford about this problem. This was only covered through the 1995 model year.

Today, Feb. 26,2007 I was summoned by the mechanic where I was getting the oil changed. While doing the safety inspection he showed me that the front end support rails of the car which holds the engine are rusting through! the whole cradle is in danger of breaking off due to the rust. This will not pass inspection he told me not to drive the car until it gets fixed! this is a defect in the steel I have never had this happen before.
I currently own a 1996 Ford Taurus. By a fluke, I was recently notified by a mechanic that the sub-frame on the passenger side was corroded beyond repair. I was also told that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. There is no other rust on the vehicle, which would indicate a manufacturers defect. I have contacted Ford customer service and they are unwilling to deal with the problem even though I have checked the internet and found several examples of the same problem. This is a huge safety issue. This is the main support, which holds up the engine and transmission. If it were to suddenly drop, steering would become impossible. I have to believe that there are many people out there driving with this same problem and do not realize it, just as I didn't. I am asking that you check into this further and to protect our citizens. Thank you, james mehring.
The state inspection refused to inspect consumer's vehicle because the sub frame corroded beyond repair.
The vehicle pulled to the left. The dealer stated the engine mount was broke and the sub frame was bent.
The rear end mount was loose while driving.
Vehicle started making a "popping" noise (similar to knuckles being cracked) everytime a low speed turn to either side was made. Sound seemed to be coming from directly under the passenger compartment. Noise occurred predominantly when the car had been sitting out in the hot sun or when it had been running and was hot. Would not happen in coolness of the morning. Two attempts to pinpoint the problem by a Ford dealer resulted in them having no idea what was causing it. The third time a mechanic drove it and pinpointed the "subframe insulators". They ordered new ones, installed them and charged me for it. Now less than 2 weeks later, the noise is starting again. Same location. I was told twice by this dealership and another Ford dealership, that this wear was not indicative of bad driving habits or damage and that it was not "a safety issue" it is however, very annoying and unnerving to hear the sound nearly everytime the car makes a slow speed 90 degree turn to the left or right.
Lower bushings, spacers, bolts.
Vehicle travelling through shallow water the engine compartment takes on water and gets on belts, causing alternator and power failure, affecting steering, brakes, and engine operation. Dealer contacted and aware of the problem, nothing can be done, referred to hotline.
When traveling at high speeds (70 plus mph) in crosswind conditions there is a loud "moaning" and/or "whistling" sound that is present in the area of the drivers side door where the door assembly meets the frame and window assembly. The sound is so loud that I have to turn off the radio because there is too much noise in the interior of the car to talk or hear normally. I have informed the local Ford dealer and he told me that he has the same problem with his personal Ford vehicle. Ford can't seem to fix the problem nor do they seem too concerned about it. They (Ford)just sort of put me off and more or less indicate that because they can not seem to correct the pronlem that I"ll just have to live with it. The problem is ongoing and occurs frequently when I take trips where I am doing high speed driving in crosswind conditions.
While driving vehicle and when there is a quick change in the road surface, the struts make a clunking noise. Vehicle has been in shop (5) or (6) times for this problem since July of 96. The struts and sway bar were replaced a couple of months ago. Also, new subframe insulators were put in a few weeks ago. Vehicle is still making a clunking noise.
Bent pillar on driver's side which prevented door from closing properly twice.
Wanted to know about any front subframe problems, car makes a clicking noise when braking like something is loose and when hitting dips or potholes front end sounds like it is going to to fall out. Replaced front struts 06/27/02 still have same problem.
Consumer heard loud buzzing noise when turning, upon inspection the the mechanic found that the underside of the vehicle was full of rust, technician informed consumer that the vehicle was unsalvageable and that it had been submerged in water. Nlm.
Subframe mounting bolts snapped prior to service recall 92-s-61.
Subframe mounts were loose and damaged, causing the vehicle to make a clunking noise over the last three months. Dealer replaced the mounts on may 19, 1999.
