Other Fuel System Problems of Ford Taurus - part 1

I purchased this car April 1 2025 the car drove fine up until this past week I got in the car it had a very long crank but started and it acted as if it wasn't getting fuel. So I shut it off waited and started it back it seemed ok I went and purchased some fuel cleaner and gas it straightened out then today it done the exact same thing except it stalled on me 3 times and the last stall almost caused a wreck I was able to get it started and drove back home too scared to drove it so I started looking up problems online and seen several issues like mine that other people had and they were related to previous recalls.

The engine light came on and was scanned for engine code p0430 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2). Upon further research, it appears that a catalytic converter has started failing. I was able to clean the catalytic converter, but they are very expensive to replace. Ford issued an extended warranty for this part, but did not issue a recall, despite this being an issue on multiple vehicles. This warranty is 10 years on the police interceptor sedan (taurus platform), and 11 years on the police interceptor utility (explorer platform). My car's mileage was at approximately 103,000 miles when the light came on. Both warranties extend to 120,000 miles, and my car was two months older than 10 years when this occurred. I contacted Ford through multiple avenues, even writing a letter to Ford consumer affairs, and they all declined to extend their warranties to the Ford police interceptor sedan despite the fact that it is identical to the Ford police interceptor utility when it comes to the engine, transmission, ptu, and all components related to those parts, including the catalytic converter. This is a known issue that should have been a recall in the first place, but Ford should at least have the same warranty issued to both cars as the part and failure of said part are identical. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys contacted Ford and told them to extend this warranty to 11 years to match the warranty for the police interceptor utility. Occasionally engine surges when in gear when brake is pressed. Car must be put in neutral and key turned iff. This happens only on occasionaly. I understand Ford has extended throttle body warranty on this part to ten years on my modeli visited local dealer who ran my VIN and advised there was no information on an extended warranty in his system. He said take it up with Ford. Ford customer service refered me back to the dealer. Can you assist in confirming Ford has extended the coverage to 10 years and if so how to proceed as Ford has denied any knowledge.

Intermittent accelerator sticking. After lifting foot from accelerator to prepare for braking/stopping the car continues to accelerate. Safety is at risk in traffic and intersections. There is online documentation related to previous NHTSA investigations. Ford and the local dealership has stated that there is not a defined recall. Although there may not be a “recall” this is certainly a safety problem!!.

Everytime I get gas the car has a hard time starting and most times after it starts it shuts down due to low idling after startup.

There is a defeat in my Ford catalytic converter. I would like I sent the part to the NHTSA. Dot. Gov for research. I am attaching pictures of the defective product.

For the last 3 days there has been a gas smell in the garage. We have driven it 2 times. 3 days ago at 17 below and yesterday at 30 below. Cannot find any leaks. Gas tank is a little over 1/2 full.

Please allow submission of additional information regarding issues with my 2013 Ford Taurus police interceptor. As stated on the previous complaint filed on 1/9/2024, I got my car service at autonation Ford service center on 12/16/2023, and I brought it back to the service center on Saturday, 12/23/2023 because of the car’s poor performance and engine had laminated on 12/17/2023. Issues such exhaust system, fuel system, the driver exterior door handle is loose, and seat belt gets jammed.

On 2 occasions in October 2023 my 2014 Ford Taurus would not start after cranking. Once the engine had been warm. The 2nd time approximately 2 weeks later, it was cold and had to be towed to Ford dealer. After the dealer said it was the fuel pump driver module needing replacement, it appears this was a known problem (see below from Ford website); however, mine was not recalled. Mine came from the chicago factory as well. This should be replaced at no charge to me, including the tow fee. Total $602. 90 should be reimbursed. My vehicle's oil lines to the turbo charger failed and caused a huge oil leak and my car was smoking all over the highway. I had the vehicle towed to a nearby service station recommended by aaa. After discovering the issue, the repairman indicated there was a recall on this exact issue. However, I was never notified by Ford of the recall. When I called Ford I was informed that the recall only applied to vehicles built between oct and Nov 2016. My vehicle was built in April. I feel that this issue couldn't have been limited to that small window of time, obviously Ford is not sharing the appropriate information with nhsta. I had to pay $3000 to fix my vehicle for a problem that Ford is well aware this vehicle is still having. I'm deeply disappointed in Ford.

I’m not having any success with my local Ford dealership or with Ford customer service getting my car covered under the customer satisfaction program. I have fuel system issues, I need to replace both cats and 2 bad sensors, halfshaft, fuel system, and braking issues. The dealership said to contact Ford and Ford says it’s the dealership’s problem. If they don’t fix it, I’m done with Ford. If they can’t stand behind their products and their dealerships won’t help the customers, then my loyalty is done. I’ve already had to replace a poorly designed ptu at my expense and now this, buyer beware on interceptors. Let’s hope I don’t have any other issues. No one seems to be willing to help and I’m beyond frustrated with this experience.

I have a check engine light on my dash. I have several codes. I have problems with the car like the fuel pump, catalytic converter not functioning efficiently, steering, etc. I know Ford has problems with its cars.

Vehicle will crank but will not start. Mechanic looked at it and said the module is bad and needs replaced. When replaced, vehicle started fine. There is a recall for this but it is not for my engine type.

Check fuel fil inlet service warning. Capless gas and no issues but only getting 13 mpg.

This vehicle was sold to me with a not for sale in states requiring California emissions, no governor on the vehicle as well faulty lighting mechanisms. The fuel pump is fluctuating and the car is a danger to myself and those around me. I consulted with a independent licensed mechanic who confirmed these defaults. No warning lights no messages and the dealer did not point out these flaws. I discovered this issue after getting some routine maintenance done on the vehicle.

The car stalled out on the highway requiring to pull off the road, shut off, and then restart multiple times. The check engine light indicated fuel system pressure is low. There are known complaints of the fuel delivery system failing intermittently in the 2013 Taurus.

The car was inspected by Ford. The fuel pump driver module needed to be replaced. I made it home for my break. When I was leaving. The car would crank but wouldn’t turn on.

On 7/31/2022, and also about a month ago, my 2013 Ford Taurus limited stalled out while driving and the wrench light came on. The car limped along until I could pull it over, but this could have been serious as I was on the highway doing 65mph just 2 minutes prior to it. It stalled coming up the upramp here in phoenix. I got it into the parking lot, and gave it gas and nothing at all, the engine just sputtered as the wrench light was on. I turned it off for 2 minutes, and restarted and able to get home 4 minutes away. This is the 2nd time this has now happened, and this is a huge safety concern. Ford Taurus had recalls on the powertrain control module for other years of the Taurus, but I do not want to pay for this fix as this is a Ford safety issue for my model year 2013. I could have caused an accident on the highway if this stalled like this. Who do I contact to get this looked at. I can almost guarantee it is the powertrain control module as I see it online recalled and exact same issues. This car onl has 70k miles on it and in great condition, serviced all the time. At times the vehicle accelerates by itself albeit I am not touching the gas pedal. While driving the vehicle at 45 mph, I take my foot off of the accelerator and the vehicle maintains the 45 mph speed or increases speed if I am driving down a hill or any downward gradient regardless of the angle of decent. When I try to stop the vehicle using the foot brake it continues to maintain speed and if I put the shift lever in neutral, while trying to stop, the rpm's increase from approximately 1500 rpm's to 3200 rpm's until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, and then, only after approximately five seconds do the rpm's begin to drop to 1000 rpm's. If I am driving the vehicle with cruise control and cancel the cruise control, the vehicle maintains the cruise control speed indefinitely, literally for miles thereafter. I wanted to give this vehicle to my daughter who has multiple sclerosis but it's too dangerous for her to drive with this acceleration problem. Do you have any recommendations for me???.

The car is stopping when at idle and at times will loose full power when driving down the road. We have replaced the mass air flow sensor, cleaned the mass flow uptake, and replaced the fuel pump driver module. We bought this vehicle from turnpike Ford in huntington. The 3rd party warranty showing on my loan agreement was bumper to bumper 7 years or 72,000 miles however the warranty paper stated 3 years or 36,000 miles. We have tried working with todd judy but they refuse to honor the warranty so my car has not been able to be repaired. They advised me I needed a new motor and transmission. We need this issue resolved it’s a high risk for us when driving the vehicle and these repairs should not be coming out of our pocket.

Rear toe links loose makes my car feel like I don’t have control when steering. Took the car in for repair they had to be replaced.

When fueling car will not take more fuel around 15 gallons leaving the fuel tank short 4 to 5 gallons. Fuel guage shows full but it's misleading because the tank is not really full. Also the information in the dashboard "miles to empty" is erroneous because your are missing around 4-5 gallons of fuel. In order to be able to fuel the vehicle to the 19 gallons fuel capacity, you need to continue forcing the fuel until you are really full.

While driving at 60 mps down the highway my car shut down completely and stop in the middle of the road. The check engine light came on and fuel low pressure. The car continued to shut down while driving.

On December 10, 2020 I acquired tis particular automobile. In the calendar year following, I have been advised of and experience "sudden acceleration" and other anomolie . I have found further oil pan plug bolt, and today 02/10/2022 the complaint of other owners. Particularly airbag sudden inflation and brake shift interlock and no airbag operation. This is presumed to be a collision sensor relationship. I am in the process of restoration and replacement of the affected components. I have difficulty in data and trouble shoot information on the website and brand dealership. (napa, adv. Auto parts, auto zone, orielly, salvage yards. I have spent $163. 50 at Ford dealer charged me. I spent $269. 70 at the american automobile association. No repairs have taken place by these people who have been advised that the manufacturer of the vehicle is alerts for further information and details of the job description and replacement parts for airbags components and sensors and clockspring set. I have been advised to contact the seller and demand replacement at no cost to me. To top it all off, Mercury and Ford plants keep duping each other and me for more money on a known defective product and vehicle. A holdover surplus of one brand to another brand. These being as 2004 Mercury sable airbag module and 2005 Ford Taurus airbags components and sensors and clockspring and sudden acceleration by cruise control modules and defects. Help please. Fuel fill inlet holding pressure in tank. Not allowing to fill car with gas pressure build up in the tank considered a fire safety hazard.

Fuel pump control module failure. No start intermittent. Could have been stuck 5 hours away if it would've been a week earlier. No warning lights or indications previously.

Over the weekend I noticed my steering was making a cluck noise from both the front and rear making the car very uncomfortable to ride and it kinda moves more left or a little right when on highway. I also noticed my check engine light came on. I took the car to get looked and the diagnosis read I have bad fuel pump line or evap dont know smell fuse of gas, gas gauge goes up an down. I was to notify NHTSA and to report this incident and whether to see if theirs any recall to my vehicle. Please and thank you.

Engine stalling running at 10 miles a hour. Is there a recall number 20504?.

After driving for between 50 and 100 miles when I stop and before I put it in park the engine accelerates without pushing the accelerator I have to put in park holding the brake after a second or two it goes back to idle.

Pulling out from a red light my car stalled. No warning lights. 2 days later it would not start. Found it to be the fuel relay module that is recalled on other models but not mine.

Oil light does not come on when low. 2. Engine light always on. 3 when I was driving this winter, the brakes, they locked up on me and I almost had a collision with two other cars but I hit a curb and was able to get my car moving again. 4. Car is loud while driving. 5 can't get good gas milage. 6. Car has developed an oil leak.

Twice the power went off on my car while driving on the highway. I was lucky to be able to pull off the road. Waited a few minutes and got power back. The car makes noise when going down the road, and I have always been told that the Ford Taurus does this. They said nothing was wrong. The noise is where you wonder if you are safe, and probably would never find a buyer for the vehicle. The car sounds like an electrical problem sometimes from the radio, and when I use the phone. Weird. The blue lights on the dash board can be blinding. Had my eyes checked by a specialist and not my eyes. One time I had left my car running in park in the driveway and when walking around to the other side of the car, the car rolled out of my driveway and damaged the door on the garage door. Obviously the car losing power twice on a highway is a serious issue. This happened two years ago, and two months ago was the second time.
