I own a 2000 Ford Taurus wagon se with oem touring contact as - p215/60r16 - 94t tires. The Ford's b-column sticker lists the correct tire inflation as 30 psi, both front and rear. The american tire distributor 2003 tire guide, published by bennett garfield lists the correct pressure for this make and model as 33 psi. I have suffered from severe cupping that I believe to be related to following, the Ford inflation specification. I am forced to replace my tires with only 36,000 miles after at least 12,000 miles of chatter from the damaged treads. I no longer feel safe using these tires.

This is the second set of continental touring contact as, 215/60r/16-94t. Tires the first went out of round at 2400 or so miles this the front 2 per the dealer are out of round also and per the service rep brian branson after 20000 miles it should be expected, and needs to addressed with the tire manufacture since they changed the tires once and the mileage at 22997 is to great for them to do anything. I took the car to a dealer and he said that, for $15. 00 each they could get the tire back in round the dealer who offered no help and charged $75. 00 to tell me the tires are out of round and not covered by Ford, I guess so much for service being number 1. Dt.
While driving on the interstate, the front right tires suddenly exploded and had gone flat in a matter of seconds. Consumer stated that the vehicle did not hit a curb, stone, or any sharp objects, and it was obvious that there was something wrong with the tire itself that caused the internal damage whether over a period of time or rapidly. Consumer is aware of the history of such incidents with continental tires, and would like for continental tires to replace the tires with another brand, due to their lack of reliability and concern over his family's safety. (continental touring contact as tires-under warrantee tire/file#01265).

On 6-28-01 I was on I-75 going north. My tire unraveled on me. My husband and a state trooper put on a spare. My husband had my tires rotated 2 months before. I have had 3 flats and tire replacements on my car. I called Ford motor customer relations. Nick (800-392-3673) told me Ford has nothing to do with general tires. He transferred me to general tires (800-847-3349). Eileen at general took the complaint and gave me a file #38421. I agreed to go to belle tire to have the tire inspected. Eileen called belle tire. I took the tire to belle tire on 7-2-01. Darrell at belle tire (313-271-9400) called general tire. Jill at general told him a file should not have ever been made on my complaint and I should just take the tire back to where I got it. She was very abrupt and rude. I left.
Consumer stated at the time of purchase, he noticed the left front tire was showing signs of tiny cracks, consumer stated now that it is 1 year later there is small debris falling from the edges of the tire where the cracks are located, Ford and firestone recommended replacing the tires, Ford assured consumer that the tires were under their supplement warranty, however Ford has now refused to honor its warranty for all firestone tires, and firestone is denying any responsibility. I was driving down the highway at the posted speed limit when I heard a sound as if a large truck was approaching. I checked to see if that were the case, saw no vehicle, realized the car was beginning to vibrate and slow down so I decided that it might be a tire. At this point, I began to slow and drive to the shoulder. As I pulled off the road onto the shoulder, I heard the tire hitting the car. I was very lucky that I was able to stop the car without serious injury or damage to the car. ( dot number: 8xx81rt110 tire size: p215/60r16 ).

Ever since tire seperated and we went off the road, even the second set of new tires won't stay balenced. One to two times a month have had to have tires re-balenced. We continue to have problems with the car. The Ford dealer claims that there is no problem and general tires have not returned our calls. (tiresize: p205/65r15)( dot number: tire size: p205/65r15 ).
It isn't just the SUV's where this tire failure is occurring--fortunately I maintained control of the car. This has happened to me twice before with less than 20,000 miles on original Ford tires.
