Brake Abs Warning Light problems of the 2002 Ford Windstar - part 1

The abs warning light stays lit after starting.

"takata recall" it has the abs light on and the brakes feel like is going to pop or dont even work in one point im really scare to drive it change the brake boster and nothing fuse sensor for the a b s. And nothing I wish just to give it back to the Ford comp. . Evry where I go.

Abs light intermittently on and off consistantly. Was told as module needs to be replaced.

Just noticed that the abs light would go on and off, checked fluid levels, fine, and then the light stays on all the time.

I found seat latches had a recall plus needing a jumper wire installed in a recall so I made apointment at sunland Ford in victorville CA 92392 not even one block from leaving the dealer all dash lights came on and after a few miles after exiting the freeway I pulled over and turned off the engine restarted it the lights went out but after a few miles abs and trac light went back on and stayed on now I noticed my door lights dont work know what could they have done ?? [it's not a blown fuse I checked] I called them the nekt morning and they told me to pay them $105. 00 and they will check it and tell me how much to fix it seems strange it was not doing this before I took it to them is it revenge for doing the recall???.

Abs lights came on out of nowhere when nothing is wrong with the brakes.

Abs warning light is on while driving vehicle. Resets when vehicle is turned off but comes back on once brake pedal is depressed.

As I was driving with my mother the abs and break light came on. I pulled over turned the car off then on again. The lights turned off. But about two days later they both came on again. Now they come on and off.

Braking distance suddenly increased. My abs light and trac off lights on. During driving my traction control will come on as I brake on dry pavement, I almost wasnt able to stop. The mechanic said my cruise control was leaking ( that has previously been fixed) but that want causing it. I will have to buy a abs module. It is parked right now due to scared to drive with my kids in the car and I'm a single mom and can't afford the module.

Abs light on -- won't go off. . Brakes are skipping (new pads / nothing wrogn with new parts).

Abs light came on during normal driving conditions for no apparent reason. Car is very well maintained with good brakes and has relatively low miles.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the rear or the vehicle collapsed. The contact also mentioned that the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who informed the contact that the rear axle had fractured due to rust and the abs master relay sensor had malfunctioned. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 140,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Abs warning light comes on & off intermittently. Can not re-set it, but the brakes seem to work good otherwise. Is this a problem or has Ford had a recall on this issue? I hear it is common.

Abs light came on intermittently after 8/05/2013. Had brakes checked, pads/rotors/drums appeared, tested ok. Had brakes serviced (front pads/rotors replaced) 2/24/2014. Light for abs came on again 07/01/2014. Light comes on and stays on. Turns off when restarting. Seems to only occur in summer months. Stopping distance seems to increase when abs light is on!!!.

Driving at 60mph, got to stop sign and tried to stop and the brake pedal sank to the ground, I pulled emergency brake and pulled to side of road just missing car in front of me. Tried to pump brakes and just sank to ground each time. I checked brake fluid and it was full. Drove backwards a few times and hit brakes to stop to adjust rear brakes, not much change. Pumped brakes many times and seem to work after a few pumps. Drove a bit forward and to stop had to pump brakes and they worked. Drove home and brake pedal sank to ground, but pumping helped. After driving over 15min, brakes now work fine. Took to garage and the are not sure what problem is. They want to change the abs module. The abs light is now on? did not notice the abs light on before. Not sure what the problem could be. Abs comes on immediately upon putting the car into drive and driving for a couple seconds. I can hear a noise and the abs light comes on.

Braking distance suddenly increased with both red brake and amber abs lights came on. That was scary and I barely could stop the vehicle to avoid an accident. This happened many times since then.

The abs light comes on occasionally. I checked for abs codes and found c1185 and many other codes. After some online research, I found that this problem is usually caused by a faulty abs control module. I never know when the system will malfunction so, will have know way of knowing if the abssystem will work when it is needed.

My abs light & traction light are now on. Also, needles jump on dash {odometer, speedometer, fuel & heat level} and cruise control does not work any longer {this has been happening since receiving my van back from the Ford garage after 7 months from the axle recall repair over a year ago}. Tried to bleed my brakes after replacing pads and caliper but cannot bleed front left or rear right. Was told by a Ford mechanic that this may be a problem in the abs module. As pertaining to a Ford recall in October, 2009, all of the above problems may be connected to this recall. My van was inspected and nothing was done to it because, at the time, because it was deemed safe. I have since replaced the electrical tape on the wiring harness that they were suppose to be inspecting because it was falling off due to brake fluid on it (reason for said recall}. I plan on calling the garage in the am to have them reinspect my van for this recall because I cannot afford to replace any more parts in it. I have put a lot into it just since getting it back after the axle recall because it deteriorated sitting in their driveway for the winter due to salt. I hope nobody else is going through this. I love my van and have owned it for 11 years but it is getting too expensive for a one-income-household to repair due to bad parts or service. Please have Ford work to fix these problems so I can afford to keep my van. Thank you!.

Abs light start flashing, lose cruise control, then over drive started flashing on the van, cut off o/d light still flashing.

Check abs light comes on along with check traction control and the hand brake lamp is illuminated. A code check reveals the code as c1185 - abs relay. It is happening with increased frequency now. This happens sporadically under a variety of driving conditions. To clear it I pull over, turn off the engine; wait a few moments and restart the vehicle.

Vehicle abs light has been on consistently since purchasing vehicle from carhop/ uac. Reported the problem to the warranty department only to be told any electrical is not under their warranty! this was reported within a week or so of purchasing the vehicle used for 8500$. Since have replaced all four tires for brakes, ( top of the line brakes, not cheap ones) light still remains on after several trips to a shop. Anti-lock braking system still inoperable and almost caused crash 12-7-2012 when attempting to stop on a lightly icy road. Several other electrical issues have been going on with the car as well. It blows brand new fuses, rated higher than what the slot calls for, the low tire pressure light stays on, despite taking the van to a tire specialist and the correct amount of air placed in each tire. Also the crankshaft positioner has caused the vehicle not to start. The air bag light has stayed on and went off after disconnecting the battery. Replacing bulbs on the van quit often. At the point of stopping the payments and letting the car company just repo the van. It is a safety hazard on the roads and especially in snowy minnesota where a functionable vehicle is needed in order not to cause a accident!.

As the engine is warming up, at speed at 30 mph, the brake and abs warning lights came on, the braking is losing the efficiency, it took longer distance to stop which could cause accident or serious safety issue. Worse if I were at higher speed. We would appreciate if defective parts could be repaired by Ford company as recall as I understand that this is common problem for many years.

Abs light and brake lite come on. I went to tire plus and they indicated that it was code "c1185". I called hoffman Ford in harrisburg, PA and they indicated that there was no recall for that code.

Abs light turns on intermittently, sometimes function of brakes are affected. Told my repair shop it is a faulty connection in the abs module.

Though I've replace rear cylinders and brake pads (inside the rear drums) about one week ago (197,992), sometimes when I stop at an intersection or stop sign, with the parking brake off, the red "brake (!)" dash light comes on. When I resume movement, it goes off. I've been to my local Ford dealer and neither time have they fixed it (28 Sep & 4 oct 12). I even had the entire hand brake assembly replaced. On-line sources lean towards ecu/hcu failure. I change all fluids every 25-30k; the last time the brake fluid was flushed was at 190,000 on 22 may 12. The front brake pads were replaced then, too. I have detailed maintenance records-I'm the original owner. My abs light has not come on, yet.

Our abs light came on for the 3rd time in two weeks. Light goes off when car is turned off and back on. Took it to a repair shop and the code they gave was c1185. They said that there is nothing they can do to fix it long term. They also said that abs will not be engaged when light is on creating a potential dangerous situation. We were told that this is something they have seen in other Windstars the same age.

First, the power steering wasn't working and parts of it had to be repaired and replaced. But the worrying thing is that the abs yellow light and the red brake icon on the dashboard often come on and remain on while we're driving. That is worrying, as we don't know if it means the brakes are faulty or not. A firestone mechanic said it was because of rust build-up, but I don't like that the yellow abs and the red brake icons come on, because who knows if that means the brakes won't work or not. From my online research, this seems to be a common problem with Ford Windstars, and needs to be addressed!.

Abs light comes one when the air temp is 90 degree plus and stay on until the engine is turned off. It will say off for maybe a few minutes to a couple hours. In the past 24 hours, the abs light came on twice in three trips. Last year, when it was hot, it did about the same. As I understand it, when the light comes on, my brake's anti-lock is nonoperational while the light is on and scares me until I can safely pull to the side of the road to turn off the engine.

Brake and abs dash light illuminate. Once the vehicle is shut off then restarted the lights do not come one for a little while, but they do come back on. The codes that come up are directed to faulty abs module. We were told there is a possible fire risk involved due to manufacturer's defects.
