The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 35 mph, the suspension was unstable, causing a strong vibration and noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact indicated that burning plastic fumes emitted into the vehicle. In addition, the contact mentioned went over a bump and the vehicle was not riding steady. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over and upon further inspection, it was noticed that the rear frame, rear axle and the coil spring fractured. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop who diagnosed that the rear frame, rear brake drums and coil springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Approx. , a year ago my abs module went bad and I had it checked by a mechanic to verify that fact. Just recently my speed control deactivation switch went bad and leaked,. Now I found out there is a connection between both the switch and the abs bad module. Ford does not have a recall on the abs system, but they do on the above switch. Very possibly the high cost of the module has kept them from having a recall!!! I have read complaints about the same problem from another Ford van owner. Also the switch was changed approx. 5 years ago and it went bad again. ( per a Ford recall then) there should be a definite recall on Windstar van abs systems and as a safety issue---Ford should replace the switch and wire harness again! . . Updated 08/12/14.
I lost control on the highway I was driving I hit a pothole and my car wen its own way I waa ciming home from the hospital from just giving birth two day earlier and I keeo hearing a weird noise so I took my car to the shop and they said it was the lower control arm.
Ford found that the rear axle had a hole in it causing the axle to shift to the right. Recall work was done a few years ago. They said it was my fault and would not pay. Abs and traction control light come on however reset when restarted. As of today they don't go off.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake pedal went to the floor when depressed. The vehicle continued to accelerate over a curb and crashed into a tree. There was no personal injury. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the scv switch was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and they informed that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 234,000.
Abs system activated under normal breaking conditions, caused extended breaking distance. Has happened 13 times since the initial failure. Dealer unable to replicate but scanned for codes and found c1185 which they said was failure of the abs controller/computer. They suggested $1200 in repairs but couldn't guarantee it would "fix the problem". Have multiple abs fault codes all the time now. C1198, c1194,c1254, c1246, c1250, c1242 ,c1214, c1210, c1446 which all point to multiple failures in the computer. . Read more...
I have an abs code c1185 which may be related to a faulty solder joint in the abs module. This renders the abs system ineffective.
Red (brake) and yellow (abs) lights on intermittently. Problem is worse in hot weather. . Read more...
The lights come on after a few miles of operation and stay on until the engine is shout off. The next time the engine is started the car will travel a few miles and the lights will come on again.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving 35 mph, the abs and the brake warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the electrical control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.
My abs and brake warning lamp comes on periodically for no known reason. There was a recall on brake lamp switch a few years back and now this concern exists.
The abs, brake, and traction control lights all came on. Turn on and off intermittently, but stay on longer each time. Mechanic says it may be the abs control module and hcu.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs and brake warning lamps illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 122,000.
I was driving on the road and it had been raining earlier when I tapped my brakes to go around the curve I started sliding into the oncoming traffic and almost hit a van . I tried to steer back into my lane but it wouldn't let me . If the van hadn't been able to get out of my way I would have hit them. I wasn't able to get traction until I was off the pavement on the side if the road.
We bought our van in March 2012. By April 2012 we began noticing problems with shifting. It shifts hard. The windows stopped working in may 2012. The lights on the dash for the abs and brakes are always on. The brakes are not very good and the pedal must be pushed hard to get the van to stop. Our biggest issue is with the transmission. The mechanic at aamco would not even change the fluid because if he changed the fluid then the transmission wouldn't be able to shift. I don't know the details but I do know that my van is not safe to drive.
The warning light for brakes and abs kept coming on and there was not an actual problem with the brakes.
After driving some distance, usually 5-20 miles or after the van has warmed up, the abs and brake dashboard lights and come on. The speed at which this occurs is random. The abs is indeed incapacitated, thus suddenly increasing the braking distance. The trip computer also beeps, and tells me that the traction control has been disabled.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the brake, abs, and traction control lights all illuminated. The only way the lights stopped illuminating was if he had the under carriage washed. Eventually, the lights all illuminated again. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic for a diagnosis, however the failures continued. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 150,000.
Abs, and service brake, come on simultaneously. I am afraid that stopping distance shall be increased, thusly causing personal & property damage liability. Fear of braking distance suddenly increased, when driving, on a personal daily basis. Thanks, dj.
The abs and red brake and trac lights come on at the same time, stay on until I turn the car off. It will go for weeks than it comes on again, same thing. Its been almost going on for almost two years.
These trouble lights light up all the time turn vehicle off and restart lights go away til the next time. I don't know what the problem is. They come on constantly now is this dangerous?.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact was driving 35 mph when the brakes were applied and there was a delay in response time. Neither the dealer or manufacturer was contacted nor was the vehicle repaired or inspected. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Electrical shorts fire , ac , brakes speel control ,locks doors.
Abs anti-skid and brake lites suddenly appear on the dash monitoring system without anything being wrong. Keeps on occurring when brakes get hot.
