Abs and brake light comes on intermittently. I do not have abs function while the lights are on and it seems to happen more often in warmer weather. When vehicle is turned off it resets and doesn't come back on until driven a few miles again. According to several forums, this seems to be happening on a large amount of Ford Windstar's similar to mine or assembled in canada.
Red and yellow brake lights on dashboard come on and go out even when master cylinder is full of fluid.
Tl the contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving 15-20 mph, the contact heard an abnormal rubbing noise coming from the vehicle. The contact stopped the vehicle, looked underneath, and stated that the axle was fractured. The contact stated that the anti-lock braking system and brake lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer (fette Ford, 1137 u s 46, clifton, NJ 07013, (973) 779-7000) where it was diagnosed that the axle fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the local dealer that the axle would not be covered. The failure mileage was 123,500. The VIN was not available.
The abs light comes on and stays on the red brake light comes on and stays on it is throwing 9 code starting with c1185 and 8 other that are connected with the first code I Ave tried and tried to fix the problem many times it will not pass a safety check. I have done research and his can be dangerous and very unsafe I know it can catch a fire and also the brakes may lock up.
Abs and brake light are on.
Yellow abs light and red brake light come on simultaneously on dashboard in intermittent and random fashion. Has been happening over extended period of time - sometimes off, often on. Am informed by my mechanic that when these lights are on, the abs braking system is nonfunctioning and therefore, a driving hazard. When these lights are on, brakes are functional but as in standard, non-abs mode. Many others have complained about this same problem in the same model vehicle over several model years. Seems to be a manufacturer defect that should be corrected before someone is seriously injured or killed. This is not a wear and tear item since it is widely reported in this model and my vehicle has only 84,000 miles of light driving over 15 years.
I was driving down the road and our and and brake lights had came on. Took it to the local shop and was told about the c1185 code was on. We were driving on the way home, and it just comes and goes with every start up and shut off. Car was in motion. To my acknowledgement I'm not positive what is causing this issue but I've been researching and have read about many of the same issues in this particular van series. I've read about Ford's safety recall number 09s09 and and my vehicle is to be in that recall as well.
Brake and abs lights on most of the time, myriad codes, hard to even know where to start troubleshooting.
The hand brake lights up when brakes are applied when coming to a stop. The light will go off and then back on again when brakes are applied again.
The abs and brake light indicators turn on sporadically and remain on until the car is restarted. I have watched for some patterns, but seen few. Cooler weather keeps them off longer and when it is hotter out, then they turn on quickly. I might also drive the car for 30-45 minutes before they turn on, and when I restart the car, it is inconsistent on if they come back on or stay off. This has been happening for quite some time and is now happening more routinely than when it first started.
The abs sensor light comes on after a minute of driving. Sometimes the emergancy brake light will come on when braking. This happen to me after putting in new wheel bearings. Then I put in new abs sensors still have problem. Alot of other people on the internet are having same issue as me. The I put in speed control deactivetion switch. Still have same issue.
Abs light and brake lights are on. I had the brakes checked and levels are good and pads are fine. Abs is non-functioning. This is a common problem.
Abs light and brake light comes on and stays on for days at a time then will go off and remain off for a day or two and then come on again. The problem is that both lights (abs and brake) come on and then will stay on and then go off for various periods of time. Have had all of the abs sensors checked and they all check good. Problem is annoying and intermittent.
Wife was going to work and brakes just went out. The abs and brake light stays on and has been on after purchasing the vehicle. I am going to look over vehicle again.
Abs sensor and brake dash lights would repeatedly flash on and go off intermittently. Took it to the local Ford dealership and was told the abs sensor and ecu are failing and need to be replaced.
I purchased the 2002 Windstar van on 7/15/14 with 155,400 miles. Shortly after that the abs light and the brake light came on. I could not find any problem with the brakes nor with braking. The brakes seem to be working fine. The lights seem to reset themselves every so often but will come back on. (note: I am an old school mechanic not a modern day automotive tech).
My abs and brakes lights have been coming on at different times for my 2002 Ford Windstar for a long while, and stay on now that it is summer. I have tried to fix this problem on two occasions and changed the bad ecm with a new one and the problem has returned both times only after a few months. I made a left turn at about 5 mph with the two lights on and when I applied the brakes at the completion of the turn to stop at a red light the brakes seized and the car continued moving slowly into on coming traffic while making a metal grinding noise. I was able to quickly put the car in park to stop it right under the light. I then turned the car off and back on and the lights went off and the brakes worked normally again. A few blocks later the abs and brake lights came back on but the brakes didn't seize this time. This issue is dangerous and I had both my wife and children in the vehicle with me. Ford needs to recall these cars and build a ecm that will not expand during warm months causing the abs system to fail. Mechanics have told me that this is a major issue with the Windstar.
Loved my Windstar then all of a sudden my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. Odd thing is that it is July? first fuse #10 blew, we replaced it n it blew again. After about 6 fuses we just dealt with it. Chalked it up to it being a 2002. Then the brake light started coming on and off randomly. Odd because there is no rhyme or reason to this. It can be on, I can shut my van off to get lunch and boom its off when I come back out. Again I chalked it up to being a 2002. The final straw is this abs light. It is on, it is off, it is on, it is still on. I swear this van is possessed and I do not even beleive in that stuff. Oh and "traction control" is showing up on my dashboard. Go figure! I had the 2009 recall #09s09 completed immediatley in 2009. However I am still having issues. I have had 3 very good mechanics look at this issue and they say my van is fine. I myself am not very mechanically inclined however I know when something does not make sense and this my friend does not make sense. I repeatedly told my mechanic that this was an electrical problem to which of course he laughed. However after a little yahoo and google he now agrees also. I have never heard of this website until 2 days ago in my research of this issue. Hoping that your investigation will make Ford do something about this sometime soon? it is costly and beyond fristrating. I can only pray it does not lead to brake problems seeing as though I have children in the van the majority of the time.
Brake and abs lights come on intermittently , the brakes are brand new , the abs light now stays on . .
We continue to have issue with abs and brake light kicking on randomly. When this happens brakes become tight, squeal. Brakes and system appears fine. Others have the same issue. They need to recall.
The abs and brake lights wont go off. Technician says it is a dealer problem with all Windstar. Brake system could be in danger. Very worried about driving. Please issue a reacll ASAP.
From a stop, started making a left hand turn when the brake warning light and the abs warning light came on. There may be a possible leak from the scds which could end up causing a fire. I will have it inspected.
Abs and brake warning lights keep coming on; connections checked and no apparent loose connections; happens when moving and or sitting still.
While driving the abs and brake light will illuminate at the same time within the instrument cluster. While the lights are on, the abs system is inoperable and braking distance is reduced. Problem is intermittent. When driving the problem will show up and after turning off the engine and restarting, the lights will go out. Issue happens again within a few days/week later.
Follow-up on odi # 10593430. On may 26, 2014, after Ford dealership in fort walton beach, FL kept my vehicle for a week to fix the cruise control and seat latches recall, I was finally able to pick up my van. They also checked the cause of odometer and speedometer to stopped working, abs and brake light remained on, sliding doors not working, and o/d light flashing; I was told the cause is a defective abs module. They charged me $114. 27 to diagnosed the problem and quoted me $1,265. 00 to replace the abs module. I showed to Ford service advisor, andrew tompitch, a print-out from NHTSA website stating that part of fixing or remedy to the cruise control recall was to "inspect the abs control module connector and repair as necessary. " "repairs will be completed free of charge. " yet Ford charged me for this service and told me that the problems were not the same since my vehicle's scds supposedly did not leak. How could I verified what he told me was true when he wouldn't let me enter the work bay to watch what the technician was doing to my vehicle? andrew admitted that the abs module is defective and that they had replaced several modules due to the same problems as my van. But andrew said it's not part of the recall and wouldn't replace it free of charge. If Ford used defective parts such as the abs module, then Ford should be responsible to replacing the defective abs module and recall it before a life is lost!.
All of the following happened at the same time: abs and brake lights went on and stay on. O/d light flashing. Odometer and speedometer stop working. The electronic compass, remaining fuel info. , automatic electronic diagnostic and electronic temp. Showing errors. Electronic sliding door would not open unless engine is not running. Power windows stopped working 6 months ago, not sure if it is related. I had a mechanic replaced the alternator and checked the brakes. It did not fix the problems and there was nothing wrong with the brakes. I took it to Ford dealer and I was told that the abs module could be the problem because they replaced a lot of them. The abs module supposedly messing up the whole electronic system. It has less than 65,000 miles and I'm scared to drive it because the electronic system might suddenly cause other problems and cause an accident. The electronic sliding doors already would not open unless the engine is not running. In case of an emergency or a crash, someone might not be able to get out and be trapped inside because the doors and windows would not open. I was told by a Ford customer service that there is no recall to fix the problem or look into it even though they admitted they've been having similar problems to a lot of Ford vehicles.
Car bought in March 2014 from used car dealership. Abs light and brake light started coming on in may. Mechanic told me that this is a problem with the ecm and getting it replaced is costly. If I chose to replace it, the issue may occur again because Ford has not resolved the issue on the actual part. Brake failure concerns me because I have two children under 4 years of age in the car with me most of the time. This past weekend, the brakes did not respond when I decelerated. I had to put the car in park and shut off the engine to stop it. Ford needs to look into resolving this major problem ASAP, as no driver should have to be worried that their brakes will fail while driving.
Abs light on also brake light on.
The abs and brake lights came on just two weeks after I purchased my Windstar. They would come on and off intermittently over the course of the next few weeks. I took the car to a mechanic and was told it was my ecu master relay which costed me almost $1000 dollars. After a few days the lights came back on again I took it back the mechanic and he said that maybe the part was faulty and he would provide me another. To which I asked for a refund because that was a brand new part it has to be more then the part.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the abs and brake warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the pedal sank to the floor when the brakes were engaged and in order to stop the vehicle the pedal had to be depressed several times. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a diagnosis. The technician stated that the abs power relay output circuit had malfunctioned. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Abs and brake lights are on after running about 5-10 minutes intermiternly. After that the car did not start. Brought it to repair shop to scan and learned that abs system problem that might prevent starting system function.
Used the vehicle to go on a trip about 200 miles from home, the cruise control was working but the brake light stayed on. When I got back home and parked the vehicle for a couple of days, when I went to go back out in the van on another short trip and got on the interstate the cruise wouldn't work again. The brake light stays on all the time when before the cruise stopped working it was only intermittent. Now the light is on all the time and the cruise isn't working at all. I can't use the van on trips o when I go a few miles away from home because the cruise don't work. I have a bad back and joints and rely on that cruise to help me get from point a to point b. Thanks, paula.
I have a 2002 Ford Windstar that, from time to time, has the abs and brake light come on. I have no braking problems when it does come on.
The van had the abs and brake lights on intermittently since purchased by my parents in July 2003. Parents were told by dealer that there is no mechanical problem and ignore the lights. There have been no incidents, luckily they had no emergency to avoid by hard braking. Now, as I prepare to sell the vehicle, I did some basic research into the issue and found many references to report it here and an option for a relatively inexpensive fix, to rebuild the abs ecm module due to loose or poor solder joints on the electronics board. Hopefully enough reports will get this recalled properly to avoid any incidents for others.
The abs light and the brake light will frequently light up on the dash. If I am able to pull over and cut the car off, the lights will occasionally not come back on when I start the car again. However, if they don't come back on, I have no idea if they will stay off or if/when they might come back on. If I am unable to pull over, the lights will stay on for the duration of the ride. I have no idea if this is doing damage to the brakes or if it is just some sort of electrical short.
