Brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time developed a leak. My cruise control has stopped responding, and brake fluid is leaking at an exponential rate out of the reservoir above the master cylinder.
Quick stopping and applying the brakes a little harder than normal in heavy traffic, the anti lock brake system engaged. The next time the brake was applied the pedal went right to the floor and there was little and next to no brakes. I slowly eased to the right lane where I could reach the shoulder. After having the problem looked at and repaired , I was told that this model does not bypass the anti lock brake system when it locked up and failed. I could not brake with my normal braking system. I had recently had my brakes checked and I had 50% brakes left. So I was totally surprised and frightened when I had no brakes to stop safely. I keep my car regularly checked and in good working order because I do not like surprises. I believe this is a safety hazard and should have been notified by Ford. The abs light did not go on and there were no leaks of fluid. I checked and there were no recalls.
2002 Ford Windstar - abs and brake light come on all the time in warmer temperatures. Understand it to be a known defect in the braking module - aluminum housing expanding when warm. No problem in colder weather. Abs braking system not active when lights are on. No parts repaired or replaced at this time because of cost and after seeing hundreds of similar complaints with this year/model it appears to be possible recall along with faulty cruise control deactivation switch leaking brake fluid and causing fires.
Failure of the brake/cruise control deactivation switch caused leaking brake fluid to fall into and cause failure of abs module. I am aware that the NHTSA is investigating and I encourage you to demand an immediate and complete recall. This is a serious fire hazard that can happen even while the vehicle is parked in the garage, hours after the vehicle was shut off. Please act!.
Own a 2002 Ford Windstar and I am having a situation where both the abs light and brake remain on while driving. I have read of problems with the "brake pressure differential deactivation switch" in other Windstars and decided to check it out on mine after reading of engine fires occurring because of it. On mine I have found a considerable amount of brake fluid underneath the master cylinder in the engine compartment. I had my son pump the brakes while I had the wiring to the deactivation switch removed and noticed that the brake fluid was leaking as the brakes were pumped. I have decided to replace the deactivation switch before a possible fire occurs.
Brake pressure differential deactivation switch leaking causing loss of brake fluid and fluid has wicked into cruise module and abs module causing red brake light, abs light, intermittent speedometer and odometer, complete lack of cruise control, loss of abs function. Replaced bpdds, cruise control now sometimes functional, no other problems fixed. Damage caused by leaking fluid still present.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that when applying the brakes, there was an abnormal increase in stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was informed that brake fluid had leaked into the abs electronic control module. The contact stated that he had received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) but was told that the dealer would only replace the speed control deactivation switch and repair the abs control module connector if necessary. The recall repair would not cover repairs for the abnormal leaking of brake fluid. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000 and the current mileage was approximately 200,000.
Braking distance suddenly increased, under category: service brakes, hydraulic. My brake light and abs light comes on. According to the mechanic I had the sensor replaced in this unit, and not sure what they fixed the second time. Both mechanics told me I was leaking brake fluid too, I have not been able to add brake fluid myself, I can't reach the reservoir. Brake and abs lights still comes on and very seldom does the lights go off. I had to have a vehicle inspection this past year, and the first time it did not pass because the light was on. Thankfully the second time I went in for the inspection it was not on. However, I am concerned with this years inspection.
I have been having problems with my 2002 Ford Windstar van for about three years or so. My brake light and abs light stays on, I have leaking brake fluid, and my brakes squeaked sometimes. I also on two occasions had my odometer reading go out and because of this I was not able to keep track of my mph or my mileage. About three years ago I went to Ford about my brake problem and was told I needed new brakes I got those brakes and after that I still experienced brake/ abs problems. I am a divorce mom of four and our lives are important and I need my van to get around. So, please look into this matter for our safety, as well as, for the safety of other families. Thank you.
