Leaving for work, I noticed that the abs and airbag lights were on up on the dashboard. I drove to work which is only 8 miles away; going no faster than 45 mph. I arrived at work, placed van in park, turned off the van, took key out of ignition, took off my seat belt, opened door, and the airbag blew up in my face. I raised my arm and my right hand got most of the impact. We have been on the phone for 3 days with the dealer and Ford motor company. They keep passing us back and forth both denying any responsibility.

Airbag light comes on/off, took vehicle to Ford dealership,, they said there are no recalls, however I have two recall numbers 00v270000 and 00v412000 concerning the rcm-restraint control module-they want to charge me to inspect the vehicle, I don't feel I should have to pay a fee for them to inspect my vehicle if a recall exist for the problem I identified already called the fort customer support number they are the ones who said no recalls exist for this vehicle.

Airbag light flashes 7 times then stays lit. Never turns off now. Would cost about 300 to 1,000 to fix!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have that kind of money. Ford needs to fix these problems. Im driving my kids around with my airbag light on and my abs and brake light on all because of a computer issue. Don't feel this is my responsibility to repair.

Yellow abs light and red brake light come on daily. Yellow air bag light comes on weekly. Took to Ford dealer 10/1/11, found codes c1185, 1198, 1194, 1254, 1246, 1250, 1248, 1214, 1210, b1869, b1470, u1262, b1676, b1246. Internal module failure, recommend replacing ecu (verbally quoted $1,000 over the phone). If red brake light comes on, I think it's the abs module, but if something is really wrong, this could create an 'unsafe' vehicle on the road.
Abs brake light comes on when the car gets hot. When the car is cold there is no problem with the abs system. The air bag light came on at about 75,000 miles, cost to replace circuit board 675 dollars. The engine intake manifold warped which turned on the engine repair light, cost 950 dollars to repair. Updated 01/20/11.
My 2002 Ford Windstar van gear shift pin keep coming up and I have to take it to a shop so they can put the pin back in 3 times. My gears do not shift right it shifts hard. I brought this van brand new in 2003. Also my air bag light stays on the avis Ford body shop said my sensor is rusted out, also my abs light stays on. I don't feel these things should go out. I have had many Ford vehicle brand new for years and never had these problems. I still got to get these things repair. I also had two front windshield wiper motors put in and the wipes are still not right. Is there any help out there.
My abs light started to flash and is now on constant,my brakes work but not the greatest. My air bag light will start to flash and then come on constant once the vehicle is shut off and restarted the light usually stays off but will do this at random. I have had on several occasions where I hear a popping noise in the front end while making turns. We have replaced most of the front end and still have the issue. I also have a problem with it idling real fast then down to nothing it bucks and sputters when plugged into a computer it says the vehicle runs lean so we replaced the O2 sensors and things and it did not help. I do not feel safe driving my vehicle at all most of the time however I need to get to and from work and the scary part is I have to haul my children and the elderly person I care for around it . Very disappointed Ford[xx]

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. When the contact started the ignition, the seat belts failed to operate. The air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the restraint control module (rcm) failed. The VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 00v270000 (air bags), although the failures were identical. The part for the repair was ordered and the vehicle will be repaired once it arrives. The failure and current mileages were 81,000. Updated 8/27/09 updated 09/04/09.
When starting car airbag light cont' on. Cont' problem pretention retractor replaced-working. No old parts returned to me.
On my 2000 Ford Windstar my airbag light has been coming on and flashing a code. I asked a friend that works at the local dealership what this code meant and I was informed that there is a short in my passenger side airbag. I said something to my local mechanic and he told me that at a conference he attended they were told that on safety equipment like airbags there is an extended warranty. I went to my local dealer and asked the shop manager about the extended warranty on airbags and they told me there is no such thing and they are covered the same as the vehicle warranty which is 60,000 miles. As of today my van has about 118,000 miles on it so I am well beyond the warranty. Is there an extension of the warranty on safety equipment? I was also wondering since this is a short in my passenger side airbag can that airbag deploy without being in a crash. I ask this because my teenage daughters sit up front with me all the time and I would hate for it to explode in their face without any warning, just because I wasn't able to get the short fixed.
Dt:the contact stated that the passenger side, side impact air bag deployed without an impact while driving. No indicator lights were on prior to air bags deploying. The vehicle has been at the dealership for nine days, they have been in contact with the manufacturer. Neither the dealership nor the manufacturer could determine the cause of the problem. The vehicle has not been repaired. Updated 11/16/2005 - the manufacturer examined the vehicle but was unable to determine what caused it to deploy and refused to accept any responsibility for this problem.
The passenger side airbag deployed for no reason at all. The owner was traveling on the expressway with no potholes or bumps at a speed of 40-45 mph. The owner was going onto the ramp when he heard an explosion. The passenger thought that they had been shot because the noise was so loud. The airbag light was not on before deployment, but it was on now that the air bags deployed. The owner has been in contact with Ford and their local Ford dealership. Ford customer affairs refused to do anything about it because the warranty expired. There was 1 injury, but not life threatening. This did not result in a crash. The airbag blew the seams out of the seats and foam had gotten everywhere. This was going on 3 weeks, and the consumer was waiting for Ford to determine if they were going to fix the defective airbag. Ford determined that they were not liable.
A car accident occurred on January 9, 2004. Car was hit behind, and the bags did not deploy, but airbag light came on. Van was taken to repair shop twice to fix light. They came to the decision that a code needed to be put in and could only be done at Ford. The van was taken to Ford 4 times, and the light still comes on. First they put in code. 2 weeks passed then light came on again. Van taken back to Ford. It was released to us. After about 5 weeks light came on. They put in the code again. Light came back on as soon as we got to the driveway. We went to Ford again, and they said there was a problem with module. They replaced the module and a whole new air bag system in July. The replacement was done twice due to the first air bag system was defective, the light came on and stayed on the next morning. A complete new system place in the next day. The air bag light came on again then went out. They said it was okay. Light is back on now (March 2005). Now Ford is telling us that a new module has to be placed in because it has burnt out. Also Ford needs to find out what is burning out the electrical system? over $500 worth of work to be done and now not covered by warranty from July 2004? we are not sure if the airbags will deploy in case of emergency. And we have small children to transport in the vehicle. Spoke to Ford dealer in our area. No help.
Air bag light illuminated intermittently. Dealer replaced the front air bags, but the light still illuminated intermittently. Dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. Dealer recommended to consumer to bring the vehicle in when the light waa illuminating.
I purchased the vehicle on November 10, 2001. The vehicle had been brought from another dealer, and when I picked it up, it was purported to have been examined and everything working. When I got a few miles down the road, I noticed that the air bag light was flashing. I called the dealership and was told to take it to a dealer as soon as possible and have it checked. Since it was Saturday, I had to wait until the next week to have it checked. I was told at prestige Ford that the air bag sensor module was not the right one for my car. The car was manufactured 3 days after the modules changed for the new cars. They ordered the part, I came back a week later to have it repaired. The computer still showed a problem, and mechanic said that he had replaced the part but would have to contact Ford to see what to do about the other problem. A week later he called and said he had not reached Ford yet. I said that my air bag worked, though, and he said no. The next day I was struck by another vehicle in a front end crash. We struck at approx. Same angle and both air bags deployed. Mine did not. I stopped when I saw her come over on wrong side of the road. She hit me at approx. 35 mph. Middle seat in the car came out of the anchors. I hit the steering wheel and was thrown against the door. I was injured, neck, chest, arm, side. I believe the vehicle was defective, I was allowed to drive it without the offer of a loaner, and I feel that the air bag could have diminished my injuries. I am also very concerned about back seat coming loose.
Airbag light had been coming on for 2 months van taken to armstrong Ford on 3 occasions to be fixed they stated airbags were okay that it was an electrical problem with the light replaced a spring in the light airbag deployed 2 days afer picking up the van from repairs there was no impact to the van it deployed on it's own.
While driving cruise control would not work. Airbag light came on an off once every three weeks. Also, locks started to lock and unlock by themselves. Headlights were flickering off and on. Finally, then horn failed. Consumer replaced horn, and horn still did not work. Consumer felt problems may have been related to clock spring. Please provide any further information. Consumer wrote in saying the name and address belongs to her, however the vehicle is not hers, nor is any of the information along with it.
The airbag light had been coming on and going off by it's self for a couple of months dealership stated it was a problem with the electronics the sirbag deployed without impact on Dec. 3, 2000 when my husband turned the iginition to start the vechicle - it deployed while we were in a parking lot- he was bruised but not require medical treatment.
The air bag light comes on and stays on, the fuse, wiring harness and brake wires were fixed as possible cause but the light keeps on coming.

Air bag light remaining on while driving. Vehicle been in the dealer shop on four occasions, and problem still reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information concerning this matter.
Upon review of the air bag warning indicator, the dealer's service center has determined that the vehicle was manufactured and sold to me missing the entire driver's side air bag assembly. Because the safety system on the air bag system runs through a loop, all of the air bags were rendered inoperable. The dealer is making an effort to build and install the entire air bag assembly. The concern is however, that the vehicle was 1) allowed off of the production line and 2) allowed to be sold by the dealer with no functioning air bag system. If this questionaire is selected for further review, I would like to recommend 1)that the NHTSA issue an informational bulletin alerting drivers that if the air bag warning indicator light is on in their vehicle, that no air bags will deploy in an accident; and 2) that a review of the manufacturer's safety system inspection procedures is conducted, and that the procedure ensures that vehicles are not allowed to leave the plant without functioning air bags. Thank you for your time with this issue.
