While driving on smooth highway at 35 mph max, the right side airbag deployed and the button on the door post that operates the passenger side sliding door shot out. The vehicle had collided with nothing; nobody in the vehicle felt a bump. There was no visible evidence of collision found by the insurance adjuster, the Ford repair facility, or by an expert third party. Only the shop's computer showed the reason for deployment as "collision. " so the insurance adjuster listed "collisionã‚쳜 as the cause in his report. Result: we pay the deductible, our insurance rate increases, and our driving profile now includes an accident that didn't happen. There was no collision or accident. Two passengers were visibly bruised, one requiring medical attention as she was hit by the above mentioned button. Repair, which will cost approx $800, has not been done pending our trying to settle the cause and insurance issues. The repair facility has the parts on hand and a check from the insurer.

I was driving 55 around 8:45 pm on a local highway, there were no other cars around, when all of a sudden I heard a sound like an explosion and I felt pain on the left side of my face. I did not brake, I took my foot off the gas and pulled over and turned on the overhead light. My face and ear hurt and my ears were ringing, I looked to my left and found that the side airbag that deployed, which was what had caused the ringing in my ears and the pain in the side of my face. I called 911 and a NY state trooper responded. He looked in the road and at the car and determined that I did not hit an animal, that there was no large debris in the road that I may have hit, and there was absolutely no new damage to the vehicle- especially there was no damage to the drivers side door. The only explanation is that the airbag deployed on its own. When the airbag deployed, it tore open the fabric of the drivers seat and foam stuffing from the seat exploded out and all over the inside of the minivan. Today I went to the Ford dealer from whom I bought the vehicle and we are attempting to determine how the damage will be repaired. Ford wants me to file an insurance claim and have my insurance company pay for the repair, but I believe this to be a potentially dangerous mechanical defect on Ford's part and that Ford should pay for the repair and investigate the problem further. The service manager at the dealership just kept telling me that airbags just don't deploy on their own, but after looking at my van he agreed that it must have deployed on its own since there is no damage on the door to indicate that I was struck by something.

While my wife and young son were driving 400 miles from home on a congested expressway the side airbag deployed without warning or cause. After the dealer had the vehicle for two weeks they decided it was caused by a faulty sensor and since the vehicle was out of warranty (3 yr/36,000 miles) they gave us a bill for over $1100. 00 with our repaired vehicle two weeks after later. The manufacturer assumes no liability. We are afraid to drive it.

Travelling at approximately 35-40 mph I was broad sided by a car travelling approximately 20-25 mph. I was hit flush on the driver side front door, the driver side slider door, and a small portion of the driver side rear panel. Why wouldn't my side air bag deploy in that situation? any information would be appreciated. Police were notified but no report was taken by them.

Consumer was involved in a head-on collision, impact speed over 40 mph in which neither driver's side nor passenger side air bags deployed, causing injuries to three occupants of vehicle.
