Air Bag Problems of Ford Windstar - part 1

Tl the contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving at an unknown speed, the air bags deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I was driving at around 30 mph, 2 cars in front slammed on brakes, I was approximately 1 1/2 car links back and hit the brakes. Abs failed, airbags failed, and slid into car in front of me. I was on a city street going straight.

Yesterday ( July 5, 2016) when my son arrived at home, placed the 2003 Windstar in park, turned off, took the key out of the ignition, took out the seat belt, opened the door and when closed the door the front airbags (driver & driver side) deployed suddenly. My wife call the dealer and the dealer said that there is no recall for our Windstar VIN number and they can quote for the repair. Failure millage aprox. 133,251 and the Windstar was stationary.

On may 24 while backing out of the driveway I was a passenger in my sons car when it suddenly accelerated at a tremendous rate of speed and with a loud noise and crashed into the vehicle in front, which was pushed into our shed. I sustained injuries of 6 broken ribs, bruised lung and contusions to my chest. If not for the car and shed in front we would have ended at the bottom of the hill behind our home. The insurance company, 21st century, did not send a claim form and is fighting paying for this accident.

Driving east bound at 35 mph when a vehicle turned in front of me and I had a direct hit on the right side of his vehicle. I hit the steering wheel with my chest. The seat belt did not hold me back and neither air bag deployed.

Small damage to the left outside of the left fender, caused both air bags to go off. This broke the rearview mirror on the windshield and both rear window latches to break the vehicle was in motion.

Abs/airbag, tire gauge lights on - ebcm module failure.

Airbag didn't deploy during a bumper to bumper accident.

Abs, brake light stays on for no reason. Spent several hundred dollars having it diagnosed. Replace many parts. No resolution. Drives often with a miss especially during acceleration.

Abs light on air bag little on won't turn off brake light also will come on at time feels like something is sticking like driving withbrake on.

Just driving the van and it shows check traction control and my abs and brake lights come on and traction control off. It keeps recurring and do not know what to do to fix it. If I pull over on the side road and shut off the key and wait a minute and start it back up the lights and all go away for a bit. If I drive it with lights on and the check traction control on it smells like something is burning. So I have to pull over and shut it off all the time until the lights are gone.

7/21/2011 bought van from private party. Recall completed in March of 2011 regarding back axle. On 7/13/2012 8pm, my 18yr old son, while driving home from lacrosse practice, nearly killed. Upon pulling out onto the main road, he lost all controls, no steering, no brakes and no power. He coasted and prayed it would stop. I arrived, we called aaa. Flatbed to my home driver could not believe his eyes. The engine had fallen out. 7/16/12 called Ford in mich and spoke to rep. To be towed 13 miles away to route 23 auto at our expense. Really? route23 wanted nothing to do with me (they did recall). Went back and forth then per rt23 "it will be a month until we can look at it" getting know where. 7/18-22 borrowed friend car for tournament. 8/1/12 called magarino Ford and with great concern had a flatbed that night. This tow truck driver could not believe it. Fluids raced out and double stabilized for engine sliding during transport. 8/2/12 magarino called 9am, pictures sent to Ford and awaiting reply. 8/5/12 t/c from m stating Ford refuses to buy back and sending a subframe. You mean a recalled one? magarino caught in middle I questioned whether he would put his children in this van. He softly replied, "no" what am I to do, out of work 2 years, single parent with no car to find work. 8/8/12 I questioned Ford why this van ever left rt 23 auto, according to researched paper a part was waiting on. You mean to tell me that upon this fixed axle nobody noticed the subframe was rotted from inside out causing the engine to fall out the next summer nearly killing my son! but they signed it was fine! really? now we have case # 1373091992 8/10/12 picked up van. Broke= a/c, r-window, heater engine, airbag, brake light on, runs hot steering= thumps makes noise (full fluid) skip gears, sways, barely can get up a hill. 11yr old scared to drive in it.

The abs light and brake light intermittently comes on while driving.

I was driving in residential area when I heard loud noise like a gun. When I pulled over, looked at my windows etc. They were all intact. I then noticed that the air bag on side of passenger seat had gone off, and blew that area of the passenger seat out. I took my vehicle to the nearest Ford dealer the next working day, which was yesterday. Today they called me and said that Ford motor company would not cover it. I called Ford customer service # 1-800-392-3673. I was again told they would not cover it. I told them that I had gone on line and there were 2 air bag recalls on that model of car. They told me that Ford did not have a recall on this. I had entered 2001 Ford Windstar recalls. It gave me NHTSA campaign id number 00v412000 dated 12/06/2000 and NHTSA campaign number 00v270000 dated 09/13/2000 I do believe this is a safety issue and it is Ford motor company's responsibility, not mine.

While driving my 2002 Ford Windstar my air bag went off. I was driving about 35 miles per hour and just crossed a railroad track. There was no collision and no damage to the vehicle. The aprox cost to replace airbags is 2000 Ford says they cant do anything to help me. They would like to see why it did it but I would have to pay for it.

While driving at any speed the abs & brake light warnings light up. Had all recalls done and mechanic said it would cost around $600. 00 to repair.

I have had a continual brake fluid leak on this vehicle. In addition, while driving the vehicle on 06/06/2010, the abs light and brake light suddenly came on. In speaking with our Ford mechanic (Ford dealer), he referenced how this has been an issue on many Windstars. The abs light and brake fluid leaks, according to him, has been a point of concern. Is anything being done about this?.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. While driving 25 mph she suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. None of the air bags deployed. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 99300.

Our abs light turns on after driving the van for 30 minutes or more. If the car is shut off the light goes off and does not come on again when restarted until the van is driven more (I. E. Heats up). We noticed this first during a severe rain storm on a long trip during August of 2009.

My husband was proceeding in a southbound direction in our 2003 Ford Windstar when he struck a vehicle (GMC truck) that failed to stop at a stop sign. That vehicle was moving westbound. The impact first occurred with the Windstar striking the truck on the passenger front fender, which then resulted in the Windstar then striking a curb, immediately followed by the Windstar striking a telephone pole. These impacts were all made from the front, however no airbag deployed on the Windstar.

I had an issue with my abs light coming on. It comes on and goes off as it wants. I also have another light with a "!" I have also noticed that my cruise control isn't working. I looked this up and they are saying that there is a chance it could actually cause a fire. I am worried since I have 4 kids! there seem to be a lot of the same complaints I have found on the net. Is this something that is being looked into?.

On June 7 I was outside of our home and noticed I smelled gas near my wife's van. After inspecting I saw the tank was leaking fuel. I took the tank off and noticed there was pressure to the tank from the front strap. The pressure caused what appears to be a stress crack where the strap holds the tank. It appears to me the strap is too small for the tank. Ford refuses to fix this and would rather my wife and children ride around in a gas leaking danger machine. This vehicle has less than 95000 miles and I feel the same problem has occurred here as in the 1995 Windstar.

I was comikng home from work traveling 45 mph, had a green light, as I entered the intersection a police car ran the red light and I stuck him in the passenger side of his car. My veiw was blocked in the next lane so I never saw him until it was too late. I slammed my brakes and tried to turn to the right to avoid him but at 45 mph it was not enough, I braced my self waiting for the air bags to deploy but neither the drivers or passenger worked. I sustained major injuries to my cervical spine and I am unable to work. When I reported it to Ford they sent me a list of items they needed and put a 45 day time limit on the complaint and requested info. . . So I guess we will see what they do for me, thank god I was wearing my seat belt or I would be dead!.

I was driving home from work and it was snowing. I started to slide on ice. I repeatedly tried to brake but the vehicle would not stop. I slid off the road onto the shoulder and impacted with a drain pipe into a ditch. Neither of my dual airbags deployed and as a result my mouth hit the steering wheel. I received 18 stitches. I was wearing my seat belt. The vehicle was claimed a total loss.

Avoid the deer and slid off road and hit a trees. The air bags on both sides did not release. The speed that this happen was at 40mph. The vehicle has $8600 damage to it. The seatbelt was being used, but the air bags I believe should of still worked.

Problems encountered: rear windows not working,had motors replaced worked for about 6 months then intermittent then quit working within 6 months. Abs and brake light on dash goes on and off. A/c stops blowing for about 20 seconds then resumes blowing. Keyless entry works sometimes,sometimes it don't. Speedometer slower than it reads and mileage may not be correct. Windshield wipers not working properly. Intermittent settings on wipers quit working and when you turn off wipers they stop in middle of windshield. I have an 88 year old father with no legs and this is the vehicle I have to drive him around in. Do not feel safe!!.

My mother was driving her 2003 sel Windstar, a car hit her by a car on the left side of the Windstar, this caused the Windstar to change direction and crash again with some trees, so, there were 2 crashes, a tree finished in the middle of the front side of the Windstar, the automatic door on the left side was damaged and none of the airbags opened, I really do not think this is o. K. , my mother was ok, with a little pain in the neck but ok, but anyway we would like to know if this is normal, we think the airbag should have opened, if anyone knows the speed, the severity or other things that need to happen with exact data for the airbag to open, please let us know sashalaska@hotmail. While parked, I started my car, then put on my seatbelt. Immediately after I put my seat belt on, the air bag on the drivers seat by my left shoulder blade went off. No warnings were given prior to this. My seat was smoking where the air bag was. It totally ripped the leather on my seat. It sounded like a gunshot went off in my ear.

My husband and I were driving our 2003 Ford Windstar when it was hit by another vehicle traveling at a high speed. The impact was on the passage side back wheel and caused our van to roll over. However, the passenger side aid bag did not deploy. Also, the latches that connect the rear seats to the floor released from the two seats at the middle row. Seven days later Ford recalled 257,119 Windstar minivans because the latches that connect the rear seats to the floor could release in an accident. . . . . . Ford Windstar is a very unsafe car, specially if you use it with children!!.

Recall 00v27000/manufacturer's recall 00s26 concerning air bag assembly failure. Consumer took vehicle to a scheduled appointment. When consumer arrived at dealer he was told in a rude manner that part wasn't in, and to get out.

Vehicle has experienced a problem with activating the horn when needed. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that all 99 models have the same design and meet fmvss specifications. The problem was due to air bag in horn and fixing it is presently not possible.

Horn & air bag, my horn will not blow and the air bag will light is on and it stay`s on which means it is not working . The horn I tried to have some one locate the problem and the problem could not be located .
