Abs and brake dashboard lights warning that abs system is inoperative, speed control system also inoperative. Break pressure deactivation switch leaking oil. This leaking oil has traveled down abs wiring harness all the way to the abs controller. Unsafe condition. Ford dealership has refused to repair this dangerous condition as a manufacturing/design defect and stated there currently is no recall issued for this very serious problem!!.

I was having trouble with the dashboard on my 1999 Ford Windstar last spring. All the gauges would go wacky and the abs light would come on. I took it into the luther Ford dealer in fargo, nd and they could not figure it out. Offered to replace front board where the gauges are for no charge I would just pay for the labor. I said no. Went this way all summer and then the rpm needle just quit. This van has given me so much trouble regarding the wiring. I also had to replace the board in the back right panel of the van. And am always replacing light bulbs in the back. Disgusted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did take it in for the recall. The abs light is off now. Do I have abs??????????? I felt they just wanted to get rid of me.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. When the vehicle is turned off and the door is opened, the doors and windows sometimes continue to operate. The failure has occurred two or three times within the last six months. The contact attempted to find out if a safety recall was available, but he was given the run around. Nhtsa campaign id number 00v351000 (electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash) was the recall in question. The current mileage was 119,000 and failure mileage was 115,000.
Interior lights flicker on and off, sometimes stay on. Sometimes it stops for a week, and sometimes it flickers nonstop!.
Replaced wiring on fuse block, replaced high pressure switch twice, abs traction control light keeps going on dash, driver brake light don't work, dealer said it is the rear brake module. I hope this is going to recall on all these cars that are having the same issue. I hope to here back from someone on all these issues with my Ford Windstar 1999. I had called the dealer on my brake module and they are having a had time getting a part,I had called the dealer on 3/20/09 and called them on 3/24/09 and I haven't heard from the dealer on what this is going to cost for the part and labor. Hope to here from someone soon.
My 1999 Ford Windstar spontaneously started on fire while parked in the garage. It had not be run for at least 8 hours prior to the fire. While no one was injured this could have started our entire house on fire. The insurance fire expert located the start of the fire to the wiring of the heater.
Fire on my car.

While driving dashboard lights illuminated intermittently. The odometer went out. Consumer stopped the vehicle to look under the hood. There were little sparks of fire under the hood. The wiring that were connected to the master cylinder melted. There was brake fluid leaking down on the wiring.
The instrument panel gauges started jumping all over and I could not determine my speed, gas amount or any other data from the instruments. This happened at 37,000 miles and I had to pay $500 to have a new instrument cluster panel installed.
While driving on highway at 65 mph occupants started smelling smoke that was coming from the front left side of the dashboard. Within seconds of pulling off the highway vehicle caught on fire. The fire marshall couldn't find the cause of the fire because the front of the van was severely burnt. . . . .

Driver side electric window stopped working a couple of weeks ago. At first I was annoyed at having to open the door at toll booths etc, then it occurred to me that its also a big safety problem if I am ever in an accident. I will have it fixed at my next service soon, but if there are similar problems with other owners then perhaps NHTSA and Ford should put out a recall notice.
While driving the vehicle produced a thick smoke from the interior cluster without warning. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide additional information.
Passenger mirror glass just fell out. Interior lights do not shut off when vehicle is put in gear.
Over thirty separate warranty repairs over two years. Faulty electrical door locks (kids couldn't exit), transmission leakage, transmission failure, front-end defects with loud thumping noises and several body problems. Most notable body problems are wind noise and water leakage through doors and windows. Most recently, the fuel pump failed (@ 37,000 miles). Ford has all along refused to acknowledge the problems. Now that the vehicle is out of warranty, they have again said they will not doing anything. The vehicle is unreliable and unsafe to operate.
Vehicle caught on fire while parked in the driveway. The fire started from under the dashboard. Fire department indicated that the fire was caused by the electrical system.

Electrical problems with 2002 Ford Windstar. Back window on passenger side does not work sometimes. All the warning lights on the dash will start going on and off by themselves at no specific time. When turning on the turn signal they will go on off frequently. While driving down the road and this happens van has shut off twice. Power locks sometimes will not work. Interior lights sometimes will not work. All this began to happen when van reached 30,000 miles and warranty ran out. The dealer has not been CO-operative because we chose to take our van elsewhere for regular scheduled maintence. Dealer also told me that Ford would not help because I didn't honor them with my maintence. I am really frustated. My husband is an electrian and also owned his own auto shop for years. He say's this electrical problem is impossible to trace. Is it going to take someone getting seriously enjured or loss of life for Ford to realize that there is a definate electrical problem in my van. I know other people who have the same problem and can't get any where with Ford.
With doors securely closed the door adjar light comes on. This can last for minutes to hours, the same with the battery check light. Lastly, the chimes will intermittently come on. This is starting to become more and more frequent and continue for longer and longer periods of time. I have had it looked at numerous times and it is still not resolved. I have heard many other complaints of the same nature and occurrences ie, complaint # 10020993. Electrical problems are generally hard to pinpoint but can be very serious in nature. Electrical fires start and spread fast. I have a family with young children and I am very concerned. Ford claims that they have no complaints of this nature. I find that hard to believe.

I have a 98 Windstar Mini van . After the minivan has been running for awhile and you go to stop it will go dead or what you call stalls. So after I crank it back up and try to take off again it will stall again. So therefore I have to make sure there is no traffic coming, because there has been some close calls of me and my children getting into a wreck due to this piece of $#*$. The interior lights will not go off, so my husband had to take the light bulbs out: also the passenger side window will not go down or up. This thing is so bad I wish jimm skinner Ford would have just kept the piece of $#*$.
The dash shorted out. Causing the heater, fan, and radio to staop working. I had already taken the van in for the earlier recall and the seal was replaced. Then it shorted again and this time I had to pay for it.
No summary. Dt.
Interior lights flicker frequently for no apparent reason. Light switch manipulated but does not seem to affect it. Radio volume changes. Failure occurrence several times per day. Last occurrence was yesterday (9/26/02) where the lights flickered three separate occasions. Ts.
Wiring harness diagnosed as causing fire under dash. Six replacement harness's have been installed, none fit. Been without my van now for two months waiting for the correct part. Have experienced electrical problems (off and on) since buying the van.
Door locks are not working properly. They will lock at times, and not lock at other times. Also, instrument panel will illuminate showing that door is not closed when it is. Please provide more information.
Consumer states that while driving at highway speeds the vehicles engine shut down. No warning. No injuries. Consumer was not able to restart, vehicle was towed to dealer. Dealer states the instrument cluster needs replacing. Please provide any further information. Ts.
In hotter conditions, the "key in the ignition alarm" rings even while driving, the check engine light burns continuously. I know of three Windstars that are doing this. Temperature or moisture seems to affect the "key alarm" and it continues to sound. One friend who is a mechanic, has to pull the fuse nightly on the check engine light or her battery runs down. I was told to replace the starter because it would not start on the evening so I did. It's still not starting right. Acts as if the battery has been drained. Tried to disconnect the check engine light but same fuse runs the wipers.
On 5/1/00 I was attempting to stop at a red light and my car slowed down but continued to roll and would not stop. I had to stand up in my seat and puch the brake to the floor to get the car to stop. While attempting this, the car made a horrible grinding noise and shook violently. It was a brand new car and it was raining so I thought maybe I just needed to get used to it. On 5/7/00, Sunday, I was out and at every stop sign or light the car would not stop again. I called the dealer the next day, advised them of the problem. I had the car towed in as I was petrified to drive it. They looked at it and told me they could find nothing wrong. I told them I was not taking the car home until they found the problem and fixed it. At 7pm on the 9th they called and said a tech had taken the car home overnight and it happened to him and he almost killed someone so they now believed me. They said it was a switch that told the computer whether I was accelerating or braking. I picked the car up at 8pm that day. As I was driving to work the next morning and went to stop at a light, the same thing happened again. I got to work called a tow truck and the dealer and told the dealer do not return it until it was fixed. That was on 5/10. The evening of 5/11 I was called once again and was told it was fixed. They now believed it was the speed sensor and had replaced it. All was well, for a while. Yesterday, 10/17 I was driving home from work and this same thing happened again. This is the third time and I am scared to get back in that car. I have two small children and am afraid for their safety.
When I stopped my van, the interior lights would not turn off and the dashboard showed an open door, though all doors were tightly closed. This condition persisted even with the engine running. We had to pull the interior fuse so we could drive at night - a dangerous situation indeed! the san jose (California) Mercury newspaper has an "action line" column where I saw others who have the exact same problem as mine. I took in my car to a Ford dealer, but they charged me $85 for not even finding the problem. They said they could not duplicate it. I think Ford knows about this but won't issue a recall. Please help!.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Electrical fire started when I started heat in vehicle. Under dash driver's side fully involved.
The amp to the radio and cd keeps burning out and the last time it caught on fire. It's been fixed (again) but I'm still scared to drive it. My van stinks like electrical burnt transformer. They said they found a short, but I wonder??? also, why is my exhaust putting out so much black soot on my van? I clean it off and every time I drive it, it becomes all sooted up again. My left tie rod went out too. Is that normal for such low mileage? I'm very unhappy with this vehicle.
After each fill up car stalls after one block while driving, but the car restarts. Interior and headlites at times will not go on, delays about 10 mins then goes on this is intermit. Problem. Rear windows also intermit. Opens after a few times when button is depressed. Used car dealer will check on Nov. 2nd. Is this a problem with Ford?.
While driving smoke came from the dash area of vehicle, causing wiring within the wiring harness assembly to melt together, cause unknown. Please give any further details.
