My speedometer, abs light, and o/d off light all are on. The master cylinder was leaking brake fluid everywhere. I replaced the bottom part with a factory Ford part. The leaking has stopped, however the brake fluid leaked all over and has caused severe damage to the vehicle. I believe Ford should be held liable for this and replace all computers and parts that were affected by .

Instrument panel/speedometer fails va inspection. Ford won't fix it. Parts hard to find as anyone with this model vehicle has the same problem.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, he noticed that the instrument panel was not reading the correct readings. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 170,000 and the current mileage was 180,000. Updated 08/07/lj the consumer stated the needle would jump from left to right. Updated 08/15/12.
My Ford winstar has had abs problems off and on for a year now, no 1 can fix it. I have spent around $1000. 00 trying to fix this issue. Now my odometer & speedometer isn't working. I have been told that this is a problem with Windstars and it is a combo of the 3 not working together.
Massively erratic behavior of the instrument cluster. All of the gauges; the speedometer and rpm gauges, heat and all just jump rapidly up and down. Sometimes they give false indicators. The heat meter arm goes up when it is not hot. It's really scary. It's been going on for weeks. It doesn't happen often and I am not sure why it happens. This is a minivan I. E. A family car. I cannot wait to get rid of this car. I'll never buy a Ford again.
Abs light stays on. Brake light stays on. Gauge needles jump around irrationally . Of light flashes.
Last week as I was driving around town and my instrument panel stopped working and the abs lights would not turn off. The next morning I had to take my son to one of his activities and the instrument panel was still not working and I noticed I had to push the brake pedal all the way down to the floor. I went home and noticed that my car was leaking brake fluid. After much research I found my vehicle had a recall. (09s09) I took my car in this morning to have this recall fixed. This did not fix my instrument panel. After I got home I researched what the problem might be and have found numerous complaints about the same problem from brake fluid leaking on the some of the wires. I contacted Ford to see if this would be covered under the recall and they explained to me that the recall only covers that specific part. I am very upset because the recall will only cover the part and not the damage it has caused. I would like to file this complaint to make a record of this. I truly believe that Ford should fix the damage that this recalled part has done to my vehicle.
My instrument panel keeps going crazy. The rpm needle is now pointing down into the dash. The speedometer usually is not working correctly, it will say that I am doing 20 mph, when I am doing more like 45-50. The gas gauge sometimes says that it is on empty, when I have a full tank of gas. Sometimes the needles work, sometimes they don't (with the exception of the rpm needle. . . It hasn't moved from that buried in the dash spot for a couple of months now), sometimes the speedometer needle goes all the way to the right and then gets buried in the dash also, so far though, each time, it has came back. . . Even though it rarely registers even close to the correct speed. The repair for this is going to be about $700 is what I was told. I do not have that kind of money, and I am constantly praying that my 17 year old daughter who has to drive it sometimes, does not get into an accident because she is going too fast, and has no clue how fast she is actually going, or one of us may get a speeding ticket. I have looked at websites and seen that a lot of people are having these problems, so Ford should do the right thing and make a recall, before someone is seriously injured or even killed!!! also, not sure if it is related or not, but the abs light stays on.

I own a 2000 Ford Windstar. I have recently had my abs brake light go on and stay on, along with my traction control light also staying on and finally, my speedometer no longer works above 40 km per hour. All of these happened exactly the same time. I took it into Ford and they are saying I need a new abs module but after reading about their abs recall issues and much written about how this problem is very common, I am inclined to think Ford should fix this problem. Hence my complaint to you guys.

I took my car in to Ford due to a failure in the instrument panel. My speedometer was spinning and "stuck" in an approximate 5:00 o'clock position. . . In addition, my prndl needle "stuck" in the park position and would not move. On top of this, my abs/brake lights were coming on and off sporadically and occasionally smelled like something burning. The Ford dealer replaced my instrument cluster and attempted to fix the abs/brake light problem. The "fix" didn't last more than two weeks. . . The abs/brake light is back to going on and off. According to the information that they gave me, the parts are no longer available for the abs/brake light repair. . . They assured me that my service brakes still worked. In the process, I have been told about recalls to the 2003 Ford Windstar for similar problems in other vehicles, however, I was told that these recalls didn't pertain to me. If I am experiencing the same problems that others are having and they are getting their repairs fixed at no charge to themselves, why am I paying for repairs for the same problem items??????? the sway bar links on my Windstar were also repaired along with the bushings. . . Again. . . Another recall that seems to have been issued but I was told that "it didn't apply to me". Now I have my Windstar in the shop, again, because the transmission pump exploded and damaged the transmission. No warning, no check engine light, nothing. How much of an additional expense is this going to be???? OH, I did receive the recall notice for the rear axle. . . That will be checked right after I get my car back from having the transmission repaired. Why are some vehicles covered and others aren't??? if it affects a 2003 Ford Windstar, it should be all of them, not just some of them.
Brake light (red) and abs brake lights (yellow) stay on. I went to replace fuse #10 and it keeps blowing out. Speedometer and odometer do not function. Cruise control does not work. A/c does not work. The o/d light flashes after about 30 seconds after the vehicle starts and continues to blink until the vehicle is shut off. I took it into a Ford dealership today to have them perform the 09s09h recall and it did not change anything. All issues seem to be associated with this 'leaker' scds that was replaced, but that caused further damage to the abs ecm unit causing it to fail.
99 Ford Windstar, scds switch replaced,no brake lights, cant get shifter out of park, blower wont shut off with key removed, headlights come on when you shut the door with key removed and switch off. No speedometer or tach.

Bought this van used. Almost immediately, the abs and brake light would come on the instrument panel for no reason. The vehicle still operates normally. After turning off and restarting, the lights go off. They may not come on again for days. It seems to happen more in warmer weather.
Speedometer and rpm gauges intermittently go 'haywire' - sweeping back and forth for up to 20 seconds at a time.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair facility but the mechanic was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. In addition, the speedometer would fail intermittently. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 156,055.
We could smell smoke in our van, and the instrument panel was going crazy (warning lights coming on, speedometer fluctuating between speeds). We took it in and found that the abs module had shorted out because of brake fluid dripping onto the module and was slowly shorting out other wires and sensors, which could have caught fire. They are charging us to replace the abs module and the engine wire harness because of the fried wires.
No odometer or speedometer and abs light on.
When I am driving down the road my gauges will not work but then suddenly work for a few miles and then get stuck in whatever position they happen to be in. Its my fuel, rpm, speed and temp are effected. My abs light is on and my o/d light flashes but only after I have driven ten to fifteen miles. My a/c blows out hot air. Because my gauge was working at the time and said I was going 30mph I believed I was going 30 but I got pulled over by the police which said I was going actually 46mph.
We recently purchased a used 1999 Ford Windstar sel minivan. We took it to an auto shop to have an oil change, and air filters replaced. Upon returning home that evening, we noticed and smelled smoke from underneath the hood. When we went to look at it, we found white smoke coming up from behind the air filter and in front of the master brake cylinder. We thought that some fluids had been spilt and were simply burning off. When we went to drive it later that evening, the entire inside of the vehicle went dark. All of the interior lights, the odometer, speedometer, computer station, radio, climate control, windows, door locks, a/c, instrument panel, cruise control, and turn signals stopped working. We made it home safely as the head and tail lights were still working. Upon inspection the following day, we found that the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) developed a leak. It had been leaking for some time and had literally eaten away the electrical plug. The wires had been eaten through as well and had crossed and caused the short.
