The gauges are acting crazy which causes the engine to jerk or the transmission and then it starts making the lights flicker in the interior and the gauges start sticking. It seems to make the overflow on the radiator to empty more because it is causing the sensors in the electrical for the parts to go crazy and run hot. Sometimes it only does it every so often but after getting the reserve hose on the power steering that connects to the reservoir to the coolant the battery was drained. Then going after getting it charged down the highway it caused the interior lights radio and seat and turn signals not to work when coming to a complete stop and it was idling the dashboard and all the lights were coming back on once given a guess it winded up not working again causing the battery to become hot or warm and acid you can smell in the air like rotten eggs. It is causing the overflow tank of the radiator to evaporate more or come out quicker and it is causing other component parts to react strangely which I'm afraid will cause a fire in the vehicle and the idling is not correct also on it now.
We woke up this morning to the driver's side completely burned and melted. It had been parked sinced Monday. Fire inspector said it was definitely an electrical issue coming from the seat.

If my vehicle is not used for a few days (3 to 4 days), when I start the vehicle, all the needles of the instrument cluster oscillate violently between extremes. However, this does not affect drivability and I can slowly move the car out of my driveway and get on the street. About 30 to 45 seconds after this, the needles stop moving and resume normal function.

We were driving down the road and the car randomly cuts off in the middle of the road sometimes it cuts off in the middle of a intersection causing us to almost get hit in the side of the car several times this has happend numorus times.
This was my mothers . Now mine the speed odometer just goes every where sometimes it doesn't move at all. And it does it does show the right speed all the instrument panel does the same . And when that started the windows stop working too. Any more nor the radio. They said its a main control molecule. I just don't know I got a ticket cause it said I was going 89 in 65 wow. . Help.
I have my vehicle in a shop to replace the transmission. While working on the vehicle the mechanic noticed the front reservoir of the master cylinder was empty. Upon further examination, he found that the speed control sensor under the master cylinder was leaking and brake fluid is leaking on all the components below, I. E. Transmission, steering components, etc. I looked the issue up online and I found that there was a recall for this very issue with Ford. When I checked my VIN for active recalls, the NHTSA website states that there are no unresolved issues with my vehicle.
The instrument panel goes crazy, doesn't work or works just fine. This happens weather I'm driving on the highway or in the city. .
While highway driving, the speedometer, gas gauge, temperature gauge and instrument lighting became erratic and failed. A short time later the situation normalized. Several months prior the tachometer malfunctioned and became inoperable.

Tl the contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. While inspecting the vehicle, it was discovered that the subframe had rusted and a hole was present located behind the front driver side wheel. The hole was approximately 1. 5 inches in diameter. Also, the instrument cluster would randomly stop operating. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (dick brantmeier Ford in sheboycan, WI) was notified along with the manufacturer, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Instrument panel goes crazy. It was sitting in park when it does it.
Brakes continually have failed causing accidents. Pedal goes all the way to the floor before and after new brake pads and bring bled. Throttle idle sensor causes vehicle to stall while driving. Abs light and brake light and check engine light keeps coming on. Now they just stay on. I need to know what,if any recalls have been repaired or any options that may be available.

There's an electric shortage thats stopping my van from fully starting.
Over drive flashing off and on will not go off. Fuses blow out right after you start up the van. It started when I made a turn at a green light. On the back roads.
On Friday, June 23rd, the 2000 Ford Windstar was parked in the lot of meijers at 8650 west grand river Ave, brighton, mi 48116 for approximately a duration of 40 minutes. Upon returning to the vehicle, it was discovered that there was fire from inside my van that appeared. By standards contacted 911 and fire dept and police had responded. The fire was distinguished and reports were made out. The fire inspector indicated that it was an electrical short that was the accelerant ignition point. This is a very serious matter that presented a safety issue for my 9-year-old daughter and me. Ford motor company needs to take full responsibility for this incident. Please advise. Sincerely, scott c.
Dancing speedometer needle, and other gauges in the cluster while in motion. Can also malfunction while the vehicle is stationary while the engine is running.
I bought a 99 winstarr a few months ago and just recently the instrument cluster started dancing, and there is no power t the radio or the cigarette lighter underneath it. I also sprung a trans leak and fixed it but the car sputters then shuts off and I have to restart it.
I was driving down the road and our and and brake lights had came on. Took it to the local shop and was told about the c1185 code was on. We were driving on the way home, and it just comes and goes with every start up and shut off. Car was in motion. To my acknowledgement I'm not positive what is causing this issue but I've been researching and have read about many of the same issues in this particular van series. I've read about Ford's safety recall number 09s09 and and my vehicle is to be in that recall as well.
While driving at night on the interstate or any other road, the headlights suddenly went off for about 10 seconds. I heard a clicking sound under the left side of the dash like the sound of a relay engaging. This happened several times. I had the battery replaced and it was ok for about 2-3 weeks then started again. Driving during the day w/no lights on the a/c blower motor suddenly stopped working and then re-started. This also happened several times. I heard the clicking under the dash at that time too. I took the van to the Ford dealer. They kept it for 5 days and found nothing. I was at church and came out to leave. I started the van and the wipers came on by themselves on intermittent and would not shut off no matter what I did. I turned the van off when I got home and the next time I started it the wipers were off. I was driving down the road with the a/c on and the blower motor suddenly stopped working again and also the radio, power windows, and power locks. Again I heard the relay clicking sound. It stayed off for about 10 minutes and came on long enough to open the windows (it was 92 degrees outside). A couple of minutes later it went off again and stayed off for the rest of the day and most of the next. When I noticed a storm coming, I went out and started the van. Thank god the a/c, radio, windows, and locks were working at that time so that I could shut the windows. I drove it to work the next day and all was working. I left the van with my boss (he's a mechanic) so that he can take a look at it. My rear axle was replaced under recall about 16 months ago. I'm frustrated with this problem. I bought the van used in July of 2015. It has meticulous service records and has been great up until this year. Ford really needs to do something about this.
Speed control does not engage. There is smell of gas with tank full and stationary . This vehicle not driven often so maybe a month between occurrences.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Windstar. While driving approximately 35 mph, the abs, engine, and brake warning indicators illuminated. The failures recurred numerous times. The dealer diagnosed that the abs failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. While the vehicle was in motion, an internal fire erupted near the rear auxiliary air conditioning. The controls associated with the wires and the covering were melted. The contact smelled strong plastic fumes in the rear of the vehicle. The contact pulled the vehicle over and discovered that the cover and wires melted without warning. The contact was not notified of NHTSA campaign number: 15v608000 (suspension), but the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 106,390.
The radiator and water pump went bad and the transmission went out as I was driving. The electrical locks on the doors locks us in regularly, while driving it often slides on it's own. There's a good bit of things going on with my car that I don't know about to tell you about.
The speed meter gauges goes crazy.
Van stalled while driving, had to be towed. Mechanic could not communicate with computer. Van is having an electrical short which keeps blowing fuse #22 in which van can not be started or driven. Safety hazard, Ford must recall van.
Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for NHTSA campaign number: 15v608000 (suspension) and the remedy for the repair did not work. The contact stated that the dealer also inspected and serviced the transmission but a failure also happened after the dealers repair. The contact stated that upon leaving the dealer, the suspension was unstable and the vehicle stalled with no warning. The vehicle was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The contact was still waiting on the dealer to provide a permanent remedy for the condition of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the recall repair concern. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 129,405. Dyd.
Too make a long story short. I had about three recall on my Ford Windstar and now my whole van shut down on me. My computer I guess got it on auto theft lock and I can't even turn over now. It's just sitting in my parking lot just helpless. I have another recall but I cant take it to the Ford dealership because I cant turn over. Oh yea. It kept cutting off while im driving, don't let me stop at a light it will cut off on me there alot. It does that alot. I bought it from a car lot but he doesn't want to do anything about it. So I lost out of my money. When I turn it also cut off.
While driving, the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and temperature needles started "dancing" (bouncing all over the place). When I came to a stop, the speedometer needle had gone all the way to the right and was stuck there, blocking the gear shift indicator and not letting me put the car in "park. " I had to drive to a nearby mechanic who was able to free the stuck speedometer needle. The problem has continued on a regular basis and has gone from being intermittent to permanent. It doesn't seem to be a "unique" problem with Windstar vans.
This vehicle has shut off on me while driving several times. During the latest event which occurred while going approximately 30 mph and the minivan just shuts off without warning. There is not a stalling warning or anything. All lights appear on the dash and it is very difficult to steer the van when it happens. In order to get the vehicle to restart you have to turn it off with the key and then start it up again. I have investigated this problem online and there are many, many people complaining of this. I'm very surprised to see that a recall has not be made. With most of the complaints I've seen online many of the mechanics do not seem to know what the problem is. It's scary to see that many of us are complaining of the same thing. During some of the other incidents it also seemed to happen during lower speeds such as 5 or 10 mph however twice it happened going higher speeds, once at 25 mph and the other at 30 mph. Thank you for checking into this.
Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar se. The contact stated that as soon as the vehicle was turned on, all the gauges - gear, fuel gauge, odometer, temperature gauge, e. T. C. Illuminated, darting all over the dashboard. The contact stated that the fuel gauge, for example, showed full even when there was no fuel . Likewise, the gear showed drive while on reverse. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but stated that there was no recall on the failures, therefore offered no help. The failure mileage was 157,007. The VIN was not provided. Fe.
