37 Instrument Panel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 08/04/2009

I own a 2002 Ford Windstar sel. Recently had two messages of low brake fluid. Abs brake warning lights also come on and off on instrument panel. Cruise control stops working from time to time. Then on Aug 4, the entire instrument panel went haywire, and air conditioner stopped cooling. Having it looked at tomorrow, but this sounds like leaking brake fluid from bad switch has caused electrical meltdown. No fire - yet.

43 Instrument Panel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/22/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. After starting the vehicle one morning, all of the instrument panel lights illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer on two occasions, but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. One month later, the speedometer and fuel lights stopped illuminating. The contact was unable to determine how fast he was driving or how much fuel was in the vehicle. He took the vehicle back to the dealer and they replaced the acm module. They also replaced an instrument panel sensor, which repaired most of the failures. The abs light and traction light are still illuminated. Through research, the contact found numerous complaints of other consumers with the same vehicle that were experiencing identical failures. He believes that this is a manufacturer defect and a recall should be issued. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 126,000.

44 Instrument Panel problem of the 1998 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

The contact owns a 1998 Ford Windstar. The brake indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Whenever the brake pedal was depressed, the speedometer would malfunction. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was informed that there was a brake fluid leak. The technician further stated that the speedometer failure was linked to brake fluid ingressed into the abs module. The manufacturer has not been notified. Through online research, the contact found an investigation number pe08035 for the same failure. The investigation was closed with no recall issued, but he believes that the investigation should have led to a recall. The mechanic replaced a vehicle speed deactivation switch to stop the leaking; however, the abs module still needs to be replaced. The contact believes that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair. The current and failure mileages were 82,818.

Abs light would come on and stay on minutes after getting into car. Approx 6mo. To a year the cruise control went out. Now the speedometer quit working and the odometer went out. The air cond blows but no cold air. Looked on the internet for solutions and found that alot of people were having the same problem. Both abs and brake warning lights come on intermittently and stay on until engine is turned off. Has occurred when starting engine, or while driving. On several occasions, 15amp fuse #10 has blown out, causing instrument panel gauges (speedometer and odometer) to turn off. Replacing fuse has not stopped problems from occurring. Running diagnostic tool on abs module displayed codes c1185, c1194, c1210, c1214, c1242, c1246, c1250, and c1254. Other owners have reported that identical problem resulted in engine fires.

57 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

Abs and brake warning lights intermittently go on and off for no apparent reason. It only happens when the engine is warm, or it is hot outside. No problems on cold days. Brakes appear to work fine. There also appears to be some leaking from the master cylinder, which continues to cause a short with the #10 fuse inside the cabin, causing the speedometer, odometer, transmission control, etc to stop functioning.

62 Instrument Panel problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/30/2007

1999 Ford Windstar. Began leaking brake fluid from scds onto transaxle and down firewall. Scds has since been replaced under recall. Once I became aware of the scds problem I found brake fluid splattered all around the master cylinder area of the engine compartment. Concurrent with the leaking fluid, I noticed the abs light would sometimes come on, the speedometer became erratic, the "o/d off" lamp sometimes flashed, the cruise control was often non-functional. All of these things have gotten progressively worse. The abs light now comes on almost instantly, thus I have no anti-lock brakes, an obvious safety issue. The speedometer is always erratic and jumpy, thus it is difficult to tell my actual speed. The cruise control tries to follow the bouncy speedometer, as thus is useless.

63 Instrument Panel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/21/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving 10 mph, the traction control light illuminated and sounded a warning. The trac off, abs, and brake lights also illuminated. Not only does my 99 Windstar stall and jerk and will not pick up speed properly but the check engine light will not go off and the abs light will come on after I start the van and stay on as well. If I drive over 55 the o/d light flashes. When I take off from a light the o/d light flashes and the van will not pick up speed and then it jerks into gear.

65 Instrument Panel problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 11/08/2006

The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was also notified. There was a squeaking noise when the sliding door was closed. The consumer complained of the transmission slipping, the dealer reprogrammed the pcm and re-filled the transmission fluid. The shifter was re-adjusted. The vehicle pulled to the right occasionally, the speedometer was inaccurate. The headlights would go dim at times. Updated 01/09/07.

70 Instrument Panel problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/06/2005

We own a 2003 Ford Windstar. Our instrument panel has gone haywire. The tachometer stopped working, it is completely off the scal. The speedometer does not work. Sometimes it registers that you are doing 50mph when the vehicle is not moving, and then will not register any speed when you are moving. You cannot determine what your speed is at any given time. My vehicle is beginning it's third week in the at the dealership. I was told that the parts were being held at the border in mexico. I have also been told that the part is on a "national backorder". At this point the dealership has determined that I need a new instrument cluster, which again, is at the mexican border, in customs, or so says the dealership.
