Dear sir/madam I am filing this complaint for a Ford Windstar 2000, the rear axel, which was on recall and Ford had contacted us to have it replaced, however after calling Ford and all the nearest dealers and we actually went to a Ford dealership as well. No dealership was able to provide the recall replacement for the axle or any repairs in that matter. Thanks, Ford owner.

1998 Ford Windstar Mini van rear axle broke . . . Vehcile was state inspected two months previous and passed without issue . . Noticed a vibration in rear area . . Replaced shocks thinking that was culprit . . Issue got worse . . . Less then 700 miles after completed passed state inspection axle broke allowing rear tires to rub inner wheel well . . Van became uncontrollable at 55 mph . . . Was lucky to get it slowed down to 25 and limped into my driveway . . I was sole occupation when this happened . . Looked underneath and found issue. Went online and found recall notice for vehicles of this year for salt use areas . . These included west virginia . . 8 miles from where I live . . . Maryland . . 12 miles from where I live and the district of columbia . . 50 miles from where I live . . But virginia was not covered . . . Even though this area uses salt as a regular ice and snow removal tool. The axle failure was close to causing a complete loss of control of the vehicle . . I was lucky to be on a dual highway driving the speed limit with no other vehicles in my vicinity . . The van weaved several times back and forth across the road before I got slowed up and under control . . The axle breaking could have easily have caused a serious accident.

Ford rear axle recall. Found recall about my vehicle 3 months after rear axle broke. Had axle welded together. In Nov 2010 axle was alledgedly ordered it is now March 2011 and still no answer as to when I am getting new axle. Lmarch of this year axle broke again and had to weld it together. It cost me 450 every time to weld it.

2002 Ford Windstar: while driving on henry hudson pkwy in nyc, northbound, south of dykman street, there were several lound banging sounds from the rear on the ran, followed a few seconds later by a wailing sound, and the rear of the car would fishtail whenever the steering was turned. When the car was wrestled to the side of the road and I exited, there was the smell of burning rubber. Closer inspection revealed both rear wheels toed-out, and an obvious break in the rear axle. The break occurred on the left side, about 1/3 of the way across the length of the axle. Car was towed off the highway and remains parked pending repairs.

The contact stated that the dealer replaced the rear axle but did not replace the bracket and the rear passenger side of the vehicle was sitting abnormally low to the ground. She has contacted three different dealers in her area who informed her that they have a waiting list in which she would not be able to get in for a repair until February of 2011. The manufacturer was contacted and advised her to drive 200 miles away from her area with a unsafe vehicle.

Notified by Ford motor CO. About a volunteer recall for the inspection and repair or replacement of the rear axle for my 2003 Ford Windstar. Dealer found no cracks and applied anticorrosive material and reinforcment brackets. I believe that it's poor design is the sole reason for it's failure and this "temp" fix is only putting of the inevitable. Ford should be mandating that all Windstar's affected on the road should have an axle replacement free of charge.
