2 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 1999 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 06/12/2010

We traveled from agawam MA to scarborough me for a family party. 20 minutes after we parked in the driveway, we started to back up our minivan because someone needed to move their car out. We then heard a loud crack while backing up in the driveway. The van began leaning to the left. We found the rear axle broken into two pieces. The break is located about a foot away from the rear driver's side wheel. We had to have the van towed to a local dealer, prime Ford in saco me and had to leave it there for repairs. The service department says the rear axle was completely rusted out where the break occurred. We need to replace the rear axle, the left driver's side tire, and shock absorber that were damaged due to the axle break. We will let the service dept. Know that we would like to keep the old part if possible because of this preliminary investigation going on now. We will also have to take time off from work to return to maine to pick up the vehicle once it is repaired.

Shock absorber (strut) and coil spring broke . . . None in stock in all of USA! 2weeks have gone with no repairs because of lack of spring nationwide! dealer in mo (car still there) told us part was on order for 3 days. . . After missing work for 4 days and paying for hotel in eureka, mo we ended up renting a car and driving back home to michigan. Will have to rent another car and overnight hotel bill to return to pick up van when (if ) completed. . . All the while we still are making mo/payments on vehicle we can't even drive!!!.

6 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 03/31/2000

I was driving down the road at 35 mph when the car started shaking violently. . . Drove about 1 mile to find a safe place to pull over. . . By this time the car was barely moving. I pulled into a turn lane and heard a loud crash at the back of the car. I stopped and got out to look to find that my rear axle had snapped in two. It was completely broken into two pieces to the left of center on the driver's side. Thank god I was not on the highway when this happened. The Ford dealer acted totally shocked that this could happen and told me to call my insurance company. . . That surely I must have hit something in order for such damage to occur. The insurance company found no damage. . . And so we paid out of pocket for the repair. . . Which also included work on "rear suspension" and shock absorbers. . . Damaged as a result of the axle breaking. We replaced with a used axle. Total paid $1076. 45.
