I had stopped at the stop sign. When it was clear for me to go, I accelerated and when I got to the next sto sign and slowed own, my car would not slow down. I pushed on the brakes, heard a loud vroom and the car kept going. It's happen 3 more times. One time, I was at a fast food resturant drive thru. I was slowing down as I got in line and when I put on the brakes, the car made a oloud vroom sound and keep going. I kept pushing on the brakes and it finally stopped. I cannot remember if I put the car in park or not but I think I did that time. I would have tapped the truck in front of me. I read online about a son whose mothers wind star had the same problem. It may need to be recalled.

We were driving on local highway when abs and traction light came on. We then heard a grinding noise and the speedometer was jumping from 20 to 50 sporadically. When the vehicle is turned off and restarted everything is normal, but recurs shortly after driving.

Abs & brake light on all the time and the systems don't work when light is on therefore they aren't never working and my odometer quit working and my other gauges go crazy like it's an electrical problem gone crazy. I don't know what gauges actually work and which ones don't cause they seem to go crazy and read different all the time. But, my abs & brake light stay on all the time no matter what.

Ecu module for abs is shorted out and causes gauge cluster to short out. This causes abs light & brake light to turn on and all gauges stop working and they jump around . This was diagnosed by Ford dealership in WI. Said brake fluid leaks in to ecu and shorts out wires . Told me . $2000. 00 to fix . These problems are a safety issue . Abs and speedometer and gauges don't work . Should be a recall .

While sitting at the red light my brake light, abs light, over drive lights all came on and then my speedometer would not register when I started to go when the light turned green.
Abs light and brake light have been on for months off and on. Have a slight brake fluid leak. Was backing into my driveway and the o/d light came on and started flashing, the odometer went blank, speedometer stopped working and the a/c began blowing hot air. Checked fuse #10 and found it was blown. Replaced fuse #10. Odometer and speedometer work but other lights still on. Have an appointment to have the van looked at tomorrow.

I was driving down the interstate going to a local fast food when I loss all acceleration the car was slowing down even though I was giving it gas. Knowing I was slowing down I turned my hazard lights on and coasted to the shoulder lane the car was still running so I turned the car on and off. I still had no acceleration the car wouldn't go into any gear or reverse I had know choice but to tow it home. I looked around on the internet to find out what the problem is it seems that this is all to common with Ford Windstars. Just looking for a solution to what seems to be a problem even if you go down the list of possible replacements just needing help with a solution. I didn't have the usual indicators that you would have when something goes wrong my engine light didn't come on at all which is weird.
The engine carriage is rusted out, and the rear axle is cracked due to rust. The main arm of the ball joint is completely pulled away from the frame because of the rust. I contacted baab Ford in reed city michigan, because I was told by the mechanic I took it to originally that this was a recalled product. Baab Ford told me yes it is a recall issue, but no they wont fix my vehicle because the VIN doesn't come up as one of the vehicles effected by the recall. I contacted Ford motor company as they had advised me, Ford motor company told me, my vehicle isnt on the recall list, regardless of the fact that it has both of the problems that 1998 - 2003 Ford Windstar was recalled for. The vehicle speeds up whenever it hits a bump and also pulls towards the center line especially on slippery roads or where loss of traction occurs. It also wears out tires every 2 weeks.
Late April 28,2013 abs and emergency brake warning lights came on and stayed on. May 1,2013 van's speedometer quit working.
The same part indicated in recall is bad, my van needs fix. The recall doesn't cover my part or repair because my VIN isn't showing any recalls. When the same problem happened to me indicated in the recall. Is there anything I can do?.
Abs light stays on. Car idles high all the time, speedometer and all other dashboard control go haywire for no reason. I have to pound on the dashboard to make it stop. This had been going on for a long time. Carmd device states abs sensor need and various other thing. I have spend a lot of money to no avail. Seat belt attached to sliding door on the right side which is to cross over to the passenger on the second row never worked. I purchased this as a used vehicle six years ago I do like this Mini van but with all of the major problems I really don't think I will be able to afford this vehicle much longer. Please help me it you can. I live in an area where a vehicle is mandatory and I am on a fixed income. I just want to be safe on the road. Please help.
Tl-the contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that brake fluid was leaking onto the wiring harness and caused a shortage with the vehicle speed control, instrument cluster and the radio. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control), which the dealer installed a connector to the brake pressure switch but the repair did not correct the failure. The dealer did not include the fused wiring harness in line with the scds. The contact stated that after the vehicle was taken to his home, he installed a number 10 fuse however, the connector was still faulty and caused smoke to emit from the wiring harness. The dealer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The manufacturer was also notified, who advised that they had performed the required recall repair but could provide no further assistance. The failure mileage was 103,153. Kmj.
After repairing my speed controller my abs and brake lights have been coming on the dashboard intermittently and are coming on more and more. Took it to the dealer and no codes show up,but I do not trust it.
My abs light and brake light and tractoin controll lights are all on at all times nowand my speed domitor has slowly gone out on my 2001 Windstar sel the date below is an aprox.
Ford recall letter dated December 2011 recall number 09 s 09 speed control system modification. I recently took my Ford Windstar on janurary 3, 2013 for a recall. About a month later I drove over railroad tracks and now the vehicle is slow and won't pick up speed it makes a put put sound and has almost no power. I called the dealer to report the issue and they want $90. 00 just to look at it even though it was just in the shop for the recall. I called Ford customer complaint and all they say is they are not responsible for the Ford dealer actions or inactions. The letter from Ford was the main reason I took the van in because it says there is a fire hazard but now the van is a piece of junk. Ford refuses to recheck the vehicle and locate the real cause of the problem the vehicle is the only way for me to get around. Thanks Ford for your attention and lack of concern. Signed dissatified victim of a scam.

2000 Ford Windstar. Consumer writes in regards to the speed control system modification recall notice problems. The consumer stated after he retrieved the vehicle from the dealer, the vehicle was not idling correctly. The dealer stated the work performed on the vehicle, had nothing to do with the improper idling issue. The dealer informed the consumer the vehicle had a vacuum leak, around the master cylinder.
I took my van in for the 11s16 recall and now problems are taking place afterwards. I got my van back and now the check engine light is on and coolant is leaking everywhere.
Brought in van for recalls 09s09, 10s13 and 11s16. This was for the subframe issues and speed control switch. Speed control switch was supposed to address leaking brake fluid. Brake fluid still leaking and now dealership is charging me for brake switch repair and bleeding of brakes. Also abs light came on after service and now dealership says abs sensor needs to be replaced. I believe these are all related to original recall but dealership says no.
My abs light is on and will not go off and speedometer wouldn't work properly when the weather was really warm, and just September 21st 2012 my car was not able to switch out of park, and on oct. 18th 2012 my brake light stop working all together. I have research this problem and there is a recall out on Ford Windstar 1998-2003 with the same problems. But when I called Ford 10/22/12 they check my VIN and stated that there was not a recall on my car only Ford Windstar van with parts made in virginia. I don't understand why my car cant be repair at Ford expense when there is evidence that there I s a problem with the car.
While driving abs and brake light comes on 5 minutes after driving sometime not at all and now lights never go off have new brake pads and shoes took to dealer for scds recall they did not check or discuss abs light or brake light I asked but they did not acknowledge lights or clear codes.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while sitting at a stop light, the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact had to apply pressure to the brakes using both and turned off the ignition. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where a vacuum line was disconnected however, did not solve the problem. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where the fuel system was serviced and the throttle body was decarbonized. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 128,000.
Abs light comes on after engine warm-up and remains on. After engine compartment has cooled, light is off at restart. It will then come on again after engine warmup. Speed control is intermittently inop.
While driving my 2003 Ford winstar model sel, I'm encountering a problem with the breaking system/abs, as well as, my cluster gauge going haywire doing what it wants on and off on its own. The breaking system is starting to become more frequent. I've gone to Ford for this particular problem and a few others. Ford looked at my car and told me the rear axel had cracked and they repaired the axel on recall. I informed them about the abs breaking system. I've been to two separate dealers in staten island, NY. One dealer told me it looks like I have an electrical problem not sure if it's related to cluster gauge/breaking system. They told me I had a problem with the right rear window motor as well, which Ford fixed supposedly. As far as the breaking system goes they told me they took it for a ride and did not see anything wrong with my vehicle. I told them about the cluster gauge doing what it wants, the abs working/not working. Having a hard time stopping car, as well as, telling both Ford dealers about my wife having no choice but to pull off the highway because she was having this particular break problem. I told them the only way she was to stop the vehicle was to crash into these big green metal commercial garbage containers at approximately 10 miles per hour. I showed them the damage to the front of my vehicle as well as telling them my wife had hurt her neck, I was told from both Ford dealers that we don't see a problem we can't fix a problem and I am now reading on the web that there seems to be a problem with these cars up to 2003 with everything I have explained up til now. If anybody has any input or contact info for me to call to help me, I would deeply appreciate any help you can provide before one or all of my family members become injured or god forbid fatalities.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the brakes began to fail when attempting to brake. The vehicle had a sudden increase of speed before decelerating and stopping. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) on November 27, 2009 and provided no additional assistance. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The current mileage and failure mileage was 108,000.
Abs light, air bag light and brake light keeps coming back on while car is on.
Traction control light comes on, abs light comes on, brake light comes on.
I purchased my car on June 1, 2012. Shortly after, the brake abs light, brake light, tire pressure light, and engine light came on. On July 9, 2012 I took the vehicle to maroone Ford in fort lauderdale to perform necessary repairs per the recall. Maroone Ford dealership performed the recall repairs and informed me that the vehicle engine lights and tire pressure lights were issues not related to the recall. During the period from July 9, 2012 to July 12, 2012 the abs light and brake light did not turn on. On July 13, 2012 the abs light and brake light turned on. I called maroone Ford and I was told to bring in the vehicle to the dealership. On July 14, 2012 I took the vehicle to the dealership.
I have purchased a 2002 Windstar in April 2012, we noticed the abs light and brake light would appear and we'd be low on brake fluid. We replaced the master brake cylinder but they said the sensor on bottom was unavailable to order, we called Ford and they told us the same thing. The sensor is full of brake fluid. We have to fill our brake fluid about once every 2 weeks in warm weather more often. When I took it into dealership for recall on axle I asked about this they said theres no recalls for it. I can not afford to purchase a new vehicle nor would I want to sell this vehicle to another person as it was sold to me without being told of problem. Is there going to be a recall on this?.
The brake light has been coming on, the check engine light has been on for some time, and the vehicle is currently leaking what appears to be brake fluid.
A few weeks after purchasing my van I had issues with my brake light and abs light coming on while I was driving. It did seem to cause any issues and the lights when off ever time I turned my van off and then back on. A few months ago I was coming up to a red light so naturally I started to slow down when I tried to come to a complete stop I kept going. The perfect way to describe what happen, it felt like I hit my brakes on a solid sheet of ice. I could here the abs clicking and also felt the vibration in the brake pedal. That day it was 95 degrees and sunny. I almost caused an accident and the only things that stopped me was the emergency brake. It continued to do it every time I tried to slow down to stop that I refused to put my children in the vehicle. Last week after almost causing a few accidents I ended up pulling the main fuses to the abs. Since I have done this the only issue I have had is my speedometer acting up. I feel that Ford needs to seriously look into this issue. I have already had 5 recalls fixed on my van and this needs to be another one.
As is typical with the Windstar, the deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid. Thus, causing problems with the abs and cruise. Unfortunately, Ford already honored the recall (09s09) on this vehicle. At that time the deactivation switch was not leaking so they installed a wire harness to avoid a fire when it did start leaking. (why put on a wire harness? because they knew the switch was going to fail. Why not just replace the switch in the first place?) now Ford will not re-open the recall to replace the switch and fix the other related problems.
The abs and red brake light as well as the traction control light, and now my battery light come on and off intermittently. The abs system kicks in at unnecessary times making it difficult to stop. The speedometer is now also bouncing up and down intermittently, but no other gauges seem to be affected.
I purchased. This car in August 2013 before I got the car has 20 miles down the road the brake light came on subsequently both the abs and the emergency brake light has come on and off the abs light is on most of the time and there is a noise when breaking my mechanic doesn't know what it is and I have found out that this is a recall problem on other vehicles by calling the Ford dealer and looking online. This particular van is not covered but it's clearly having the same problem. The speed control stop working within three or four months of my having the car as well. And the rear wiper doesn't work and I'm very suspicious as to why.
