My Acadia has shut off without warning multiple times. Today, I was in a parking lot picking up a prescription. The car was idling while I was waiting in the pick-up lane and then shut off. The dash remained on and gave the following warnings: traction control off, engine power reduced, service stabilitrack. I tried to restart the engine only to have the car shutter violently while idling. I turned the car off again and then restarted for a second time. This time it restarted as normal and the check engine light came on. I have taken it to a dealer 4 times since October as it has shut off while driving and making a turn. The dealer says there are no codes in the diagnostics and cannot find a problem. I'm terrified to drive the car. I saw a recall from 2014 about an electrical short but I don't know if that was already fixed on this vehicle since I bought it used. I also don't know if this is even related to that recall.

The vehicle has been looked over by many mechanical professionals. At slow rates of speed, intermittently the steering will stiffen and lock up making it very scary when driving. We have been told over and over that rack n pinion and pump are fine. After researching, this looks like a typical issue. Is there anything that gm can do for this?.

First of all, this issue is being reported by hundreds if not thousands of GMC Acadia owners. I received the "shift to park" message months ago while it still was under the 36,000 mile warranty and then it went away until last week. I got a "shift to park" message when I turned the vehicle off even though the gear was in the shift position. This caused a number of secondary issues that are now compromising the safety of the vehicle. Once I am able to turn the vehicle back on after it drains or kills the electrical system, I am getting a number of issues. However, the ones that concern me the most are the rolls even though the vehicle is in park, loss of power steering, loss of awd, loss of stabilitrack, loss of abs, braking system error and power surges. These are the most concerning but I am also having issues with my dashboard, navigation, and vehicle instruments. I called the GMC dealer who had no problem telling me the gear shift box needed to be replaced, not covered under warranty and they had no idea when they can fix it because it was on a national back order. What really disturbs me is that there are lawsuits going on dealing with this particular issue and that literally it compromises the safety of the vehicle and neither GMC or the NHTSA have acted on this. I was driving today and realized how dangerous it was to operate a vehicle under these conditions. You can literally be driving and the vehicle have a power surge which makes you lose control caused by a malfunction in the gear shift box. I am assuming that no one will due anything until several people are either killed or seriously injured. This issues has been reported on models going back to 2017 and here we are in 2019 and still have the issue. Please help us, this issue is happening to thousands of drivers and it is not being addressed by the NHTSA or GMC. Please recall or stop selling.

At just under 1 year old the rack and pinnon went out. Replaced under warranty. Then at just over 3 years old it went out again on top of that for the last 9-12 months the engine will rev up and accelerate on it's own after it will chug for a bit then the sensor stabilitrak warning comes on then it will say traction control off then it will say its back on. I have also had it where it will looses engine power and you can barely get it to go when pushing the gas pedal. It's done this series of events about 10 times. It happens when driving, when in park, and while sitting at a red light. No rhyme or reason to it. But it is pretty unsafe when a vehicle will accelerate on its own driving anywhere! not to mention that a rack and pinnon should not go out 2xs in less than 3 years let alone on a vehicle that cost 45,000+ that was purchased to order brand new! these kind of costly repairs might I mention aren't covered under their power train warranty, though rack and pinnon is part of the steering component. Also this summer at less than 4 years old the ac quit working so I went in 90 degree temps with a baby and no ac until we had a chance to recharge it with refrigerant.

Takata recall- I purchased a 2008 GMC awd Acadia about a year ago. While test driving the vehicle I noticed a whiny sound that I informed the dealer about upon return. The dealer checked it out and told me it just need power steering fluid. So he filled the fluids and I heard nothing for a month or so. I took the truck back for misc. Repairs two other times after that regarding sounds that I was heard coming from the vehicle. After that things seemed fine for a few months or so. Early September, the truck slowed down on the highway. The dash was reading 60mph but I was really going 30mph. Then while exiting to turn off the highway the power steering began acting up and was extremely hard to turn. I almost ran into the wall not prepared to use such force. August 29th I went to jiffy lube and had the fluids topped off and power steering fluid was full. I put the truck in the shop for a full diagnostic after the battery went completely dead and the vehicle would not start in October. They informed me that the power steering rack needing replacing and the faulty sun roof had flooded the entire vehicle with 1 1/2 inches of water. The battery died because the port was filled with water. From the beginning of September, when the power steering went out, the vehicle has only been driven very short distances (to the gas station on the corner, less than a mile). I called a gm dealer to check for recalls and there are none which is sad and a total rip off.

My 2008 GMC Acadia leaks water in several different locations inside the vehicle when it rains. It has leaked water through the air bags and I'm now concerned that the air bags could be water damaged and compromised. It leaks through electrical components. It smells like mold and mildew in the car. Condensation builds up in the car frequently after it rains. The car will also sputter and act like it is going to stall out while driving on the highway sometimes. It tells me to service traction controls and service stabilitrack.
I was driving on the interstate with my son and the rear sun roof exploded. It was a very loud noise and my ear in still hurting from the sound. The sunroof screen was closed, but the glass has not broken apart and fallen yet. It is shattered on the underside in hundreds of pieces. The top shows long cracks all over. There doesn't seem to be a point where something hit it. The crack lines seem random.
Almost crashed into a tree with my 5 year old in the car after going through a puddle on a rainy day. There was a very loud squealing noise and then the steering wheel froze. I needed to shut the car off and turn it back on to unfreeze it. It happened a second time after going through another puddle which thankfully was in my driveway! brought it to get my belt checked and the GMC dealer said they think I have a small steering fluid leak and would need a new rack and pinion? I had a private mechanics second opinion and they said they did not see a leak and the fluid was not low? however my transmission fluid was a bit low? my car does stutter from time to time but no lights have come on to tell me there is a problem? not sure what to do I cant afford the $1400 to supposedly fix the car. We just purchased it a year ago and it only has 70,000 miles on it! I have done research and others have the same issue! gm needs to recall this safety issue before someone gets hurt or worse!! they also need to figure out why so many have stuttering transmissions! I almost got into a collision because my car stuttered as I was turning! the other person had to slam on the brakes as I tried to hit the gas harder! I had a 3 kids in the car on the way to baseball!! figure this out gm please before someone get hurt in this so called family car!!!!.

Vehicle had a slight misfiring when climbing incline. We replaced two spark plugs. Misfiring calmed down. A couple days later misfiring resumed. Husband was driving daughter to daycare when car had multiple dts codes appeared (stability track, check engine, reduced power) with car suddenly stalling while on a highway leaving barely enough time to coast off the road and out of the way of traffic traveling 60mph. GMC refused to assist us on this issue until we found online a TSB about the timing chain which had broken. Due to the constant misfiring (direct result of the timing chain) two of my catalytic converter became clogged. Those have now been replaced out of my pocket however when driving vehicle home while it does run smoother it now misfires all the time even when not going up hills and idling very low and misfiring while idling. I am scared that while driving my vehicle this may happen again because the issue has become worse.
We have had the car since January and I guess today was the first day I have driven the car with the back windows down. I took my dog with me so I rolled down the back windows when I did this the whole car started shaking and you could see in the rearview mirror that the back doors shook hard. The shaking made a load racket that hurt me ears. It happened with either back window down but was worst with the driver side. It was real bad with both windows down. I did not get the shaken with the front windows down and the back windows up. It only accured when the back windows were down. It happened at 65 miles an hour and at 40 miles an hour. It has to be a design flaw because it was bad. I first thought it was a bad tire but it went away with windows up and only came back when back windows were down. After making sure the tires were ok, I played with the windows to see when the vibration started and got worst. The vibration would start when either back window would get a fourth of the way down and would get worst as the windows would go down. The faster I went the worst it got. No vibration ever happened when just the front windows were down and no vibration when all windows were up. The car would vibrate enough that it scared me and I think someone needs to look into it and test drive our car thank you.
Driving at 35mph, touched brake to slow down for a stoplight, vehicle stopped running. I placed in park and turned ignition to restart vehicle, stabiltrack light came on, and drove home with no other incident. Had a full tank of gas.
Engine light came on took it in to get checked the GMC dealer said it was purge valve and may be my timing chain belt! and my master cylinder was leaking into my booster, and they had to replace a sensor for the tire and service the track/stabilitrak! services came to $1000 now come 2 months later to Jan 2014 engine light is on service stabilitrak is on take it back, my timing chain needs replaced@ 74000 miles which is about a $2000 job and my transmission platelets need changed! transmission is now slipping we called gm and there is nothing they will do as I was informed these are "command problems " in these vehicles!! what!! I feel like I've been sold a lemon and no one are gm cares because these are command problems for them! never again will I buy a gm and I'm confused on how so many people have these same issues and gm is doing nothing about it! OH did I mention you can't park on a slant or an incline with a 1/4 tank of gas because your Acadia won't start! this car has been a nightmare!.
8/26/2011 - 71,309 miles - water pump went out and had to be replaced. 5/07/2012 - 86,885 miles - transmission shuttered when coming to a stop in traffic. Would not start and had to be towed to mechanic. Transmission assembly replaced with gm reman transmission due to broken reverse wave plate that damaged the carrier, sun shell and metal throughout. Also detected an oil leak in the engine front cover that needed to be repaired and heard power steering noise so bled power steering system. 12/31/2012- 100,947 miles - headlight switch fell inside dash panel. 7/26/2013 - 112,506 miles - power steering has never worked properly. It has always made noises and has been stiff. Had it bled several times with no improvement. Power steering went out while making a left hand turn into a busy intersection. At shop now to determine if it needs a new power steering pump, rack, and/or serpentine belt. I have read many complaints with the same issues as those that I have experienced. I am disappointed that gm isn't more concerned about the safety of their consumers and the reliability and quality of their vehicles. I have never owned such a lemon! I personally will never own another gm product. Going back to Lexus.
Most recent incident was 5-25-2014- transmission wave plate broke. I have learned that these plates were not stress relieved on the 2008s. 02-2014 water pump cracked and had to be replaced, this caused a total system failure while driving. Vehicle has been towed at least 3 times. Vehicle currently in shop, all repair paperwork is in the vehicle. I don't remember the specifics of the first time, it was days after I got the vehicle.
My husband and I purchased a new 2008 GMC Acadia in August 2009. Within the first year or so I noticed that the headlights were dim and the plastic over the lights started to peel. I contacted the dealership and they said there was nothing they could do, that wasn't covered under the warranty. I called gm direct and they also said there wasn't a recall and that it was probably a chemical that we used to wash our car, that caused the peeling. They quoted me $800 for a new set of headlights. . . Ugh. . . A year or so later, I began having trouble with the struts. They began to leak. I thought it was my brake line and I took it into the shop and they told me that the struts were bad and needed replacing. At that time there was around 36,000 miles on the vehicle. I had them changed out and the mechanic told me they were the worst he had ever seen. After the repair, the vehicle has never been the same. It's not near as smooth as it was and it makes noise. I had it checked to be sure they were installed properly and they were. The whole process cost me about $900. 00 the next issue I have had is more sever. This just happened a few months ago. I was taking my children to school and the vehicle stalled. All the lights came on and said stable track went off and the engine lost pressure and the vehicle stalled. After it cooled down I could drive a little further and the same thing would happen again. I took it back to the shop and they said it was the throttle and it would probably need to be replaced. They cleaned it for now, but I am scared to drive it anywhere! now the power steering is making noise when you turn the wheel, sounds like the power steering pump might be going out now as well. The vehicle only has 65,000 miles on it. .
