The shift to park keeps showing up and I had this issue taken care of last year at the dealership and it just started again. It is over $600 to have the repair done and should last more than a year before it needs to be replaced again. The lane assist pops up every couple weeks that it is not working.

Vehicle warning light, and noise alerts when placing in park. Vehicle does not register parked. Vehicle has to be restarted several times and shifter moved in and out of park until registers as parked. When viewed by mechanic, it was stated there has been a recall to contact manufacturer about recall, but none noted on site.

The engine temperature gauge was reading cold when driving for 40 minutes and the fan was running on high. Also said steering assist reduced. Brought it in and had to replace the thermostat, because of the code they received. That fixed the issue.

Dear general motors customer assistance center, I am writing to formally file a complaint and request assistance regarding a serious mechanical failure with my 2018 GMC Acadia slt. I purchased this vehicle when it had approximately 7,000 miles on it after it was transported from florida. Since owning the vehicle, I have properly maintained it and had it serviced through suttle motors dealership in newport news, virginia. Recently, while driving on the highway to have tires installed, the vehicle suddenly stalled while I was in traffic. This caused a very dangerous situation, as traffic behind me was forced to abruptly slow down and I was nearly rear-ended due to the sudden loss of power. Because the vehicle was no longer drivable, I had it towed to suttle motors for inspection. After examining the vehicle, the service department informed me of the following issue: “the transmission solenoid valve is stuck and it has burnt the transmission fluid. The vehicle will require a full transmission replacement. The estimated cost is $7,769 with a 3-year/100,000-mile warranty. ” I was extremely shocked and disappointed to receive this news. My vehicle currently has only 67,000 miles, and I have taken care to maintain it properly through the dealership. Experiencing a complete transmission failure at such relatively low mileage is very concerning, especially considering the dangerous situation it created on the highway. Given the circumstances, I am requesting that general motors review this matter and advise whether any goodwill assistance, repair support, or coverage options may be available to help resolve this issue. I would greatly appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. I can provide service records and documentation from suttle motors if needed. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
Shift to park error on dashboard when turning the car off and it is in park, the car does not register that it is in park and continues to run electronics in the car. Causing the car to show the error on the dashboard. This runs the battery down and car may jump out of park and roll. Asked dealer to look at it and they refused due to it not being on the recall list for my VIN #. No, dealer refused and no other person will touch this issue, since its electronic in the vehicle and only the dealer can fix. Had it to another repair shop that informed me of this information. No known abnormalities prior to the incident that occurs every time you try to shut off the vehicle. Causing several attempts to turn the car off and make sure it is off and does not move on its own.
The car would not shift causing me to pull over on the side of a highway to restart the car this happened 5 times in a row b4 the car would shift into proper gear.

My wife and child drove the car to the grocery store and parked the car l. When she returned to leave , the car would not start and flashed a warning with key fob not detected and some kind of security light warning. The instrument cluster told her to place the key in left console cup holder to crank the vehicle . This did not work either . I drove the second key fob to her to determine if it was a key fob issue and the 2 nd key did not work as well. Called dealership and service requested the car being towed. Tow truck didn’t feel comfortable with the removing the vehicle as it was sitting due to space in the parking lot. They dispatched a small tow truck , but in the meantime I disconnected the battery cable and waited about 15 min. The car cranked and I immediately drove it to dealership. There was no code shown at the dealership and this was the first time they have had dealt with this issue. The mechanic drove the car the next day and the same situation happened again , except this time the key fob worked after several failed attempts . I feel that this is a safety issue because the car failed to operate and had no manual ability to operate without the electronic system functioning properly and this could have happened anyway and stranded my wife and child . A few months before in an unrelated incident , the power trunk malfunctioned and had to be reprogrammed . It would not operate except manually . Car is currently at dealership still being evaluated .
Dear sir/madam, for the 3rd time now, my transmission is being rebuilt. After purchasing it from the dealership and it was still under warranty GMC bakersfield rebuilt the transmission, then again in 2020 at 119,000 miles it broke down again and all automatic in bakersfield rebuilt it for $3500 and now here it is 2026 and only 60. 000 miles later again all automatic is having to rebuilt the transmission again and asking now for another $4950. I was excited to finally hear there was a recall, only to find it was only for 2014 GMC Acadia's. The transmission have failed again and yes it is available for inspection at all automation in bakersfield, CA on quantico. During the course of breaking down the my safety and the safety of my children was at risk. My vehicle was jumping, jerking the rpm's were all over the place and at one point in the course of driving on the freeway it felt like it lost power and nearly stopped. This has been an ongoing problem since the purchase of the vehicle. It has been inspected and diagnosed by all automatic. There were no warnings, messages or symptoms that were constant. It was sporadically slipping up until the time it gave out. I have spoke to several 2013 GMC Acadia owners who have the exact same problem along with the back light covers falling off and all the plastic coverings on the inside falling off.

My car suddenly out of the blue started overheating. By the time I could get stopped safely and turn the car off the engine fan kept running to try to cool it down. I’ve never had any issues with my car. It only has 47,000 miles on it. I now have to have it towed to a mechanic shop to get diagnosed, but I’m hearing that it’s probably a thermostat and that the GMC Acadia’s are famous for that being a problem. I’m not sure why GMC would not do a recall on this part! this is an extremely expensive fix.

In March of 2022 at around 79,000 miles, the temperature gauge was intermittently stuck on cold with the cooling fan constantly running and “steering assist reduced” displayed in the dic. The car was found to have a bad thermostat which was replaced at the dealership on 3/28/2022. About 2 months ago the car started doing the same exact thing again. I have an appointment at the same dealership on March 23. It is likely the same problem again and I have only driven about 50,000 miles since the last time it was fixed. The car is now out of warranty. This is apparently a common recurrent with these model cars. There is in fact a service bulletin released about this very issue. GMC should replace and repair this issue since it is clearly a flaw.
On or about I experienced the check engine light on the above vehicle. After checking, the issue has something to do with the low level in the coolant system. I took the vehicle to a maguire Chevrolet dealership in grand island new york. They charged me $200. 00 +tax for diagnosis. They found the radiator hose was leaking and it isn't covered by the warranty or extended warranty. I took the GMC to another shop for repair. They were told by 3 dealerships the part is on back order and they do not know when it will be in. Just to be sure, I called the GMC dealership in rome new york where the vfw purchased the vehicle. I was told they were put of stock but there wasn't an issue. That was on 12/24/2025. The salesman said he would call me on Friday to verify the status of the hose needed. As of 12/29/2025 at 13:00hrs there hasn't been a call back. My feeling is there must be an issue with the hose in question. The should be a recall and gm should repair the leaking part. Pulled into a parking space, put the car into park and tried to shut the car off. The warning system said I needed to shift to park. I was in park but could not shut the car off because the car thought I wasnt in park. Took 15 minutes of shifting from park to all gears and shaking the gear shifter before it finally let me shut the vehicle off. This is now the second time this has happened and ive had to have the same thing repaired. They are replacing the whole shifter assembly. Error reads shift to park. This is happening every few years now and at almost 1000 dollars to repair and only lasting a year or so, this is ridiculous.
The upper radiator hose, which is part of the vehicle’s engine cooling system, failed prematurely. The component is available for inspection upon request, and documentation of the repair and replacement can also be provided. Failure of the upper radiator hose caused coolant loss, creating a risk of engine overheating and sudden vehicle disablement. This posed/poses a safety risk, particularly if the failure had occurred at highway speeds or in traffic, where an unexpected breakdown could endanger the driver and surrounding vehicles. The issue was confirmed by an authorized GMC dealership, which diagnosed the failed upper radiator hose and performed the replacement. This issue has also been reported by multiple owners of the same model year, indicating a recurring problem. The vehicle and failed component were inspected by an authorized GMC dealership. No inspection by police or insurance representatives was required, as this was a mechanical failure and not the result of an accident. Prior to the failure, symptoms included coolant loss and cooling system concerns, which ultimately required dealership diagnosis. Any warning indicators appeared shortly before the issue was identified, with little to no advance warning before the component required replacement.
Shift to park issue - this is a know issue/recall for the 2019 GMC Acadia yet it when I enter my VIN number the recall doesn't show up as a problem. Yet it took me 10 tries yesterday to try and turn my car off because each time I went to turn it off, I got the message to shift it to park. This has been occurring weekly since I purchased the used car in August 2025.
There are 2 issues im experiencing. The first is the vehicle won't allow me to shut down the engine because it doesnt recognize that its been shifted into "park". Ive already paid close to 800. 00 to. Have this repaired because my model year is not covered in the recall. Today, it started doing it again. The safety issue is that either I, my wife, or my teenage daughter (depending on who is with the vehicle). Can be left stranded, unless we pop the hood and disconnect the battery. The second issue is that the tire pressure monitor is no longer working. It is sending warnings that our tire pressure is low. When its not. The safety issue is needing to pull to the side of the road to check the tire pressure and also not knowing when the vehicle may actually have a low tire.
I accidentally ran out of gas and my car died directly underneath a railroad crossing arm. I had been stopped to allow an amtrak train to go by and my car died when I started to move forward after it passed. Thankfully I wasn't on the tracks, but I was close to them. I immediately got out of my car and the woman behind me said she would help push me out of the way of the crossing arm. I went to put my car in neutral, something I do weekly when I go through the car wash, but my dash kept saying "conditions not correct for shift". I tried repeatedly and it would not allow me to put the car in neutral because I couldn't fully turn it on. I did a quick search online and found there was no information on how to get it into neutral if the car is dead. My battery was still working and my car was in accessory while I was trying to change gears. I had to call 911 and they had to reach out to bnsf to alert incoming trains. It was an ordeal. I spotted a tree removal company across the street and they had a can of gas for me to use. I was able to partially fill my tank and then drive across the tracks before a train came. Afterwards I called the dealer and we discovered together that there is no backup safety feature that allows a disabled car to be put into neutral. The dealer was just as surprised as me. This seems like an obvious safety issue if a car is to break down on train tracks, the middle of the freeway, or in an intersection. I don't understand why it is allowed and why dealerships and the public are seemingly unaware of it.

After I put my car in park my daughter and I were still in the vehicle for a few minutes getting our things with the engine still running. I got out to get something from the back seat, my daughter got out the passenger door and made it to the driver side as I was closing the back passenger door. I was about to get back on the car to get the rest of my things and turn the ignition off but before I could my car was rolling backwards out of the driveway into the street. I was able to jump in the vehicle and put my foot on the brake and the put the gear into park. There’s no way possible I didn’t put it in park with me getting out already and my daughter couldn’t have accidentally shift the gear because she couldn’t have been able to get out, close the door and make it to the driver side before it started rolling away. Once I got the car stopped, I noticed the driver seat was now all the way to the steering wheel and completely to the floor with the headrest also tilting inwards and now the electrical for the seat will not work. There is a recall for this issue but my VIN# is not included. I cannot even drive my car now because the seat is so far up and inclined. What if the seat moves up more while I’m driving and it has me pinned between the steering wheel and the seat. I don’t feel safe driving it, having my daughter as a passenger and it’s really not safe to be on the road. I’m still paying on this car and now I won’t even be able to drive to work. So I’ll probably lose my job. This car has multiple issues and I think is an electrical problem. It’s also a known major defect on this model but still not a recall for my VIN #! none of my interior sound works. Speakers, blinkers, alerts, back up camera. The auto start won’t start, I have to press the key fob multiple times to lock and unlock. This car is extremely unsafe to drive and I strongly feel my cars VIN# should be listed under the recall. Its going to really affect my daily life and means of income. Lemon!.

Shift to park caused by a faulty micro switch. Woukd take up to 30 min to get car in park, leading to engine shutdown failures and possibly battery drain I did replace battery before I knew this was causing this. Messages did appear saying this was an issue ,must shift to park but no indication of how to do it. I got this repaired at barkley GMC Dec 29:30.
When in park the car is alerting to “shift to park”.
Coolant temperature gauge stops working and shows cold temperature reading. The radiator fan runs for about 2 minutes as if the engine is overheating. I think it's a temperature sensor issue or thermostat issue or both.

Seeing the intermittent shift to park messages when the vehicle has been shifted into park and the ignition is turned to the off position. Shifter wire harness jumper & transmission controls a malfunctioning shifter raises fears of potential rollaway accidents, even if such cases remain rare. For anyone who has to park on a slope, this fear can cause serious worry. Yes, there is a service bulletin (19-na-206) no, this is 1 of the only problems I have had with this. The other issues I have had is the clear coating on the rims are peeling.
I was driving on a two-lane road when unexpectedly my front moonroof spontaneously shattered sending glass down on top of me, the console area, and the passenger and rear seating areas of my 2025 GMC Acadia. It happened without warning and no external factors. It was a pleasant sunny November day. The moonroof was not open at the time. Fortunately no one else was in the vehicle with me at the time and no other cars were nearby since the two-lane is not a heavy traffic area. This put my safety at risk and could have put others at risk had others been in the vehicle or nearby since I was startled and had the natural reaction of crouching over and down in an attempt to protect myself therefore taking my eyes off the road and not paying enough attention to driving the vehicle. Glass could have fallen and hurt other passengers. The remaining moonroof glass crackled and I then looked up in shock wondering what happened and then feared glass fall into my eyes and immediately looked down away from the moonroof. I had just left my residence before the incident and was less than two miles from home. I found the next available place to turn around and drive back to my home and exit the vehicle. I then called the dealership I bought the vehicle from in January 2025, new. I also called gm customer service to seek assistance. The vehicle has 7125 miles. There were no warning signs. The incident happened today and no one has inspected the vehicle and its damage. A customer service case was opened with gm. I sent pictures to the dealer service manager who said he attached the pictures to my gm case online.
No specific incident. High pitch rattling in ceiling. Does not seem to be coming from the sunroof but the middle light fixture.
Vehicle is in park, and the shft sensor does not recognize the shifter is in park. Won't let you turn off rhe car.
Vehicle has an ongoing water leak, has been to the dealer twice so far. Both times said it was fixed.
I continue to get a message "steering assist is reduced drive with care " this appears to be a very common issue with my vehicle model. It is very expensive to fix. I am just outside of warranty so it is not covered. Online indicates this is so common. It is the vehicle thermostat and sensor prematurely going bad.
Shift to park error message when in park.
The put in park shows after engine is turned off, have to restart and shift out of park and back to park. This could take several times to accomplish.
GMC customer care representative & local GMC service department supervisor unable to help. 2017 Acadia shift to park message. It’s difficult to turn the car off. The vehicle refuses to acknowledge the park position. Potential rollaway hazard. You may inspect. Took it to GMC service & confirmed it is a prevalent issue: transmission control 13534320 = gearshift assembly & jumper harness 84733196. This problem has been recurring for several years and I have problem solved how to shut the car off. GMC customer care rep said it’s an issue with all 2017 Acadias and tried to help. The system deemed it complicated case & escalated it to a supervisor. She read a “customer care” script. After talking, she admitted that realistically GMC would not help. Yesterday, she advised me to file a complaint with NHTSA. I read that 2 other states ohio & tennessee won class action lawsuits because of the hazardous shift to park issue. If GMC issued recalls for 2017 Acadia shift to park then my 2017 GMC Acadia should have been included. I have been waiting for the recall for several years. GMC admits the problem is prevalent in 2017 GMC Acadias. Would you please issue a recall associated with this issue and link it to my VIN. Thank you.
I purchased this 2025 GMC Acadia on 3/29/2025. About a week into owning it, the navigation stopped working. Onstar was able to reset my system. Then, about a month later, the vehicle locked my keys in the cabin without my knowledge. Onstar was able to unlock my vehicle remotely. Then, on 10/23/2025, I noticed my navigation was not showing my true location. I tried the google assistant, and it wasn't connected. After further investigation, my wifi hotspot was not working either, along with other connectivity apps. I researched how to manually reset my system and followed all prompts; that did not fix the problem. I pressed the onstar button, and nothing happened; no connection. I thought that maybe the vehicle needed to cycle a few times. I let this continue for about a week before calling onstar from my phone. They told me to press my sos button; if it didn't connect, then I would need to take the vehicle to the dealership. So I took it to the dealership 11/6/25. They tried to download the update to my vehicle multiple times, over 6 hours at the shop, and the vehicle wouldn't accept the update. It is determined that the onstar telematics control module is defective. The dealership says the part is backordered, and they do not have an eta for arrival. After perusing the gm/onstar forums, I am seeing that this is a repeated issue for many customers on vehicles as old as 2018, and the part doesn't come for 6 months or more in most cases. It does seem more prevalent with vehicles 2022-current. The issue here is that onstar is touted as a safety feature, and I have been given 3 years of free onstar service. I am unable to utilize the service (roadside assistance, accident assistance, and navigation) and many other features because of this. Gm is aware that this is an issue, and the module is backordered when it should be readily available, since these issues seem to be commonplace. My brand new vehicle should work without issue and should be repaired promptly.
Message with “steering assist reduced, drive with care” pops up on the screen. The temperature gauge drops to on the cold side. After you shut off the car the fan will run for 10 minutes trying to “cool” the car. The temperature cannot regulate.
I have owned this vehicle less than 5 years and it has had the "shift to park" error 3 times and has now been replaced 3 times. The 2nd time was in August 2023 and yesterday it had to be replaced again. I don't understand how a part can fail this rapidly when the vehicle is only being driven approximately 10,000 miles per year. It only has 82,445 miles. I would like for gm to issue a recall for this issue or advise who the manufacturer is of the switch part number 84955381 and harness part number 84733196. The parts are not that expensive but the labor to replace was $ 462. 50 and total parts was $ 55. 56 on the invoice yesterday. As this is an ongoing issue I would like reimbursement. I am widowed and living on one income.
Recently took vehicle for alignment for a pull to the right. After 3 alignments at the dealership I was told the rack and pinion gear sensor shorted out causing the vehicle to pull to the right. Also the exhaust has a rattle in the resonator confirmed by 2 sources. I asked the dealer to fix years ago under bumper to bumper and TSB pit5863. I was told not enough techs and not enough time so now the warranty is expired and the issue isn't fixed.
My 2023 GMC Acadia consistently makes a sound at lower speeds when it is changing gears. For example, accelerating or accelerating for stoplights. The sound is kind of a ka clunk. The technician can find nothing and does hear the sound when we go for a test ride. I am worried that the sound indicates a transmission problem. The VIN search does not show a recall for my vehicle.
