1 Starter problem of the 2008 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I purchased my Canyon in Nov 2007. After a year of having it, it would not start. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the starter and replaced it. It started doing the same thing a few months after that. I replaced the battery. I've purchased three batteries since owning the truck. The problem is when trying to start it wont start until after sitting in the truck for exactly 10 minutes. After that it will start. I never noticed the time delay previously and bought unnecessary batteries and had a starter changed. If you look on google all Canyons and colorado owners report the same problem won't start for 10 minutes. I recently took it to dealer and they said its a faulty passlock that's not covered under warranty $380. 00. If all the trucks are having the same problem it should be recalled. The alarm system prevents the starting of the truck for exactly 10 minutes. This can be a matter of life and death in an emergency. More info can be found online in the search. Please help.

2 Starter problem of the 2008 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

Following the first incident noted above, there were several other such incidents, where turning the ignition switch resulted in no starter engagement, dead battery indication. Following the first incident, the original battery had been replaced with a new battery. After the second incident following a jump start, the engine started. The vehicle was driven about 3 miles to an automotive parts store where the new battery (about 1 month old) was tested and found to be fully charged and in good condition. Following a third incident about a month aftter the second incident, the vehicle was taken to the gm deaaler for diagnosing. The dealer said the ignition switch was defective based upon the computer code. Despite the vehicle's 2008 year, the vehicle only had 14,769 miles. My out-of-pocket cost was $386. This defective switch should not have failed at such a low mileage. An internet search revealed other gm products reporting the same switch failure problem.

3 Starter problem of the 2007 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

Several occasions, I have had incidents with the ignition switch on my vehicle. I purchased it new, and the maker claims no problem with my particular vehicle, but it has kept the motor from running at times, and engine starter will engage with switch only in the "on" position, without turning to start. That's scary. Vehicle never did any of this while under warranty,(of course), but given the maker's track record with ignition switches, this certainly has me concerned.

4 Starter problem of the 2004 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

Climate control fan only works in position 4. Took vehicle to dealership. They said it was a resistor on circuit board. They swapped it out. Less than six months later same thing. Took it in and didn't have them replace it. They did however disconnect connector to motor, it was burnt and slightly melted. Why are they not investigating this. I assume that the condensing camber doesn't drain properly, thus impinging on squirrel cage blower, thus higher starter amps required and that is how you overcurrent this connector and resistor.

5 Starter problem of the 2005 GMC Canyon

Failure Date: 03/24/2006

Brand new truck, have owned almost 1 year. Had to take truck in for slow acceleration problem as well as hard to crank. Could not pull out into traffic, had to wait until there was no one on the road because I would try to accelerate then it would stop/pause for a second then start to go again. Took my truck to the dealership which they found one of the heads in the engine needed to be replaced. (which at first they told me I had a slow misfire on piston #2 and they had to replace a spring and a coil) a month later I finally got my truck back. One week later I heard a knocking noise so I took my truck back to dealership and was told my oil was low so they topped it off (didn't work by the way). Still having hard time cranking periodically throughout the day. Took it back to the dealership, they kept my truck for 4 days and said they could not find anything wrong with it except a loose starter bolt that they tightened. Truck still cranking funny but was told there was nothing further they could do for me.
