The contact's grandmother owned a 2015 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that her grandfather was driving approximately 60 mph on the freeway while her grandmother was occupying the front passenger's side seat. The contact stated that while the driver was attempting to switch to the right lane, the steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off unexpectedly. The driver was unable to pull to the side of the road and turned on the hazard lights. The contact stated that another van driving 80 mph crashed into the vehicle, and the van caught on fire; however, the vehicle of the contact's grandparents did not catch on fire. The vehicle was then rear-ended by three other vehicles, causing the bed of the vehicle to be smooshed into the cab, and the driver's side of the vehicle was smooshed into the center divider wall. The center divider wall might have been damaged. The driver sustained whiplash and was thrown across his wife's lap. The emergency services assisted the driver out of the vehicle and put the driver on a stretcher. The contact's grandmother was assisted out of the vehicle. The contact stated that only the driver's side and passenger's side curtain air bags deployed. The driver was transported to the hospital by emergency services. The contact stated that the driver sustained a crushed spine and severed lower nerves, causing the lower body paralysis. Additionally, the driver sustained broken ribs, 15-20 staples across his head, ruptured lungs, which caused a loss of 7 pints of blood. The driver received a transfusion of 5 pints of blood. The driver's wife sustained a bruised right cheekbone, soreness on the face, the hand, the thumb, and the body. Both passengers were currently receiving medical assistance. It was unknown whether the other drivers sustained injuries. A police report was filed, and the police confirmed that four vehicles had crashed into the vehicle. The police report information was not available. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer and the manufacturer.

Transmission has been shuddering since 15,000 miles till now. Dealerships says it's normal on these transmissions, 6 fluid and filter changes and now at 72,000 miles the transmission is failing just outside of warranty. They scammed me and kept my transmission barely alive until warranty ran out and now they want 8k-10k for a replacement. They knew. Dash goes crazy from the touch screen to the digital information screen in the speedometer. They say it's normal and happens on all the units. But it's distracting and has been messing up since bought the truck new. Again they just kept saying it was nothing they can do. Now they say it needs to be replaced after my warranty has run out. Def system is failing conveniently after the warranty has run out. It's dangerous because they programmed the truck to go into limp mode when anything emissions related fails stranding me anywhere at anytime. Emission failures like sensors should not restrict travel. This is a major issue with the diesels in these trucks and they need to be forced to remove anything that's not dangerous to the health of the engine or drive train from the software or hardware from being able to restrict travel. In every situation I've been restricted to limp mode by dirty particulate sensors, but the code that pops and puts my truck in limp mode says that the nox sensor is bad. This is false and is just a way for gm to get service at their dealers. Then they charge customers a fortune to replace parts that don't need to be replaced when you can just remove and clean the four particulate sensors and the restrictions will clear themselves shortly after. Emissions related issues should not restrict travel by any means! it is dangerous to be stranded on a trip because your emission sensors may be malfunctioning.

There seems to be electrical issue. The fan won't stop running even when shut off. The thermostat stop working with pretty low milage along with the tire sensors. Fixed the previous issues. Furthermore, while driving the vehicle stop working and had to use the momentum to park on the side of the road causing a unexpected break down. The vehicle won't start. This again seems electrical and the dealership want to charge for this. The vehicle is damaged since the manufacture and huge safety issue. Please urge to get a recall for all this items since it seems immersive expensive and unsafe to have to repair all this issues.

While driving the power steering went out making the vehicle difficult to control. Once I stopped the vehicle and turned it off then back on, the power steering came back on leading me to believe an electrical issue is the cause.
When turning right, the turn signal overcancels, causing the left turn signal to come on.

Trailer braking and stability control randomly disables. This leaves an unsafe condition when towing any trailers that require a trailer brake controller. Has happened on multiple occasions.
The vehicle will lose power steering while driving. The lights come on for stabilitrak and traction control then it says power steering is gone. It randomly deactivates the power steering, while driving. It's extremely dangerous and have almost had accidents. They are telling me that it may not be under a recall. If GMC used the same steering box as the previous model year, the same issue is occurring. Intermittent power steering failure.
We were traveling not once, but twice at a high rate of speed (75/80mph the legal limit) the vehicle gave one message: service power steering next message: reduced acceleration. The check engine light turned on, the truck itself jerked and we almost lost control of the vehicle (both times) on the highway. We were thankfully able to pull over and pull to a complete stop. The vehicle was still on, it still ran but I saw an autozone close by both times and received a code for the check engine light. The dashboard both times lit up like a christmas tree on both occasions before spazzing out. We have taken the truck twice to a nearby dealership and they were able to service and “fix” the problem however they said that the first time, and here we are a second time. The dealerships we took the truck to are aware of all the codes (2 pages worth the first time) but we never received paperwork on what was fixed. The second time we are now going to pick up and hopefully receive paperwork on what was completed. My spouse was driving and myself and my daughter were in the vehicle when the jerking happened with the steering wheel. The vehicle is not safe how can I we be driving at the legal limit and lose control of our vehicle. We were right next to an 18 wheeler with a trailer and multiple vehicles on the road each time. The GMC dealerships are aware they have been working to fix the problem however again this is the second time it happened. The messages occurred both times. Service power steering and reduced acceleration check engine light and also no traction control. The first time it happened was [xxx] going to killeen texas and the second was [xxx] going to albuquerque. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I am the owner of a 2016 GMC Canyon truck, which I purchased used in approx 2020 with about 43,000 miles on it. . . Today's date is now 1/5/25 and the truck has approx 99,0000 mile on it. Over the last 2 years the electronic stability control has failed approx 20 times. A warning light appears on the dash stating the failure of the power steering and the stabilitrac. When this happens steering the truck and be extremely difficult and I am forced to pull off the road. Usually when the truck is turned off for a short while and then turned back on the problem will fix itself, but only for a few minutes or hours and the problem reoccurs. Last week I took the truck to a gm dealer and had the steering angle sensor recalibrated. . Which fixed the problem for 1 month. Now it is failing again! my wife is afraid and refuses to drive the truck because if this happens again while she is driving she isn't strong enough to turn the wheel. . Particularly from a complete stopped position. This is a very serious and dangerous problem that gm needs to be responsible to resolve.
Battery dies during vehicle update spontanteniouly. After jumoing vehicle to start it all systems will not return to normal causing brakes not to function normally. I jumped my vehicle after one system update and brakes failed to engage almost causing an acident. These vehicles should not be on the road due to the software safety flaws. GMC is aware of this and still have no fix for the problem. There are numerous accounts of this happening to this vehicle on forums and solcial media.
Error code p0494 conducted upon check engine light coming on.

I am experiencing two safety issues with my Canyon 1) forward collision alert system is triggered unnecessarily (e. G. , when there isn't a car in front of me, when the car in front is far away and not posing a risk). I took it to GMC a few months back since there was a previous recall for this system and they said they stated it was fixed. It is not fixed. I turned off the automatic braking tied to the forward collision alert because it has previously braked automatically in a dangerous manner. 2) digital gauge cluster / speedometer is black / blank upon startup about 5% of the time. Since there is no analog speedometer, this means I am driving without knowing my speed. This is very dangerous. I have tried disconnecting my battery and resetting the electronic system but this issue still persists sometimes.

The ecu electric control model has now burned up 3 times and the dealership just keeps replacing it the only thing they keep saying not to fill up the gas tank all the way? the gas gauge just goes dead.
Check engine light came on, had it looked into, the radiator active shutter grille was stuck and wouldn't close. It had to be replaced. No causation or incident to have caused this. Bottomline, it had to be replaced to avoid further damage and from becoming a safety issue.
On 12/2/2024 my vehicle abruptly alerted and auto braked while drive <25mph on residential street while attempting to drive in between two parked cars. Plenty of room but system thought there was going to be a crash. Another vehicle was traveling behind me and also had to stop fast in order not to hit me because of the emergency braking. Truck almost came to a full stop but brakes released and was able to continue driving. This is after I had a mandatory software update that was supposed to improve the over aggressive auto/emergency braking feature. I have since had to disable the braking portion of the system and leave it on audio alert only. Not functioning as designed and unsafe.

Need help. Water damaged now after I crashed and now won’t start. Smoke wire smells so disconnected battery. I feel unsafe taking this vehicle in repair without any recalls. This happen all at one time, still paying the loan on the vehicle. Paid almost 29,000. Been in no fault account. Help. Need help reporting issues to insurance to fix the crashed truck or total loss this model. Was scary.
Subject: urgent safety concern regarding 2023 GMC Canyon fuel pump module failure I am writing to express my concerns regarding a significant safety issue I experienced with my 2023 GMC Canyon, which has only 3,000 miles on the odometer. On November 12, 2024, while traveling southbound on interstate 75 in florida, my vehicle unexpectedly lost all power. All electronics, including the dashboard and display screens, shut off, and the engine stalled. I was forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder, directly on the bridge section of I-75 over u. S. 301. With less than 12 inches of clearance between my driver’s side and passing traffic, this situation posed a severe risk to my safety. To make matters worse, the tow truck driver was unable to safely and properly secure my vehicle due to the danger presented by the high-speed traffic. My vehicle has now been at the GMC dealership for seven days, and I have been informed that the issue was caused by a faulty fuel pump module. I believe this represents a critical safety defect that warrants immediate attention and possibly a recall. Upon further research, I have found similar reports of fuel pump module failures in online forums, indicating that this may be a widespread issue affecting other owners across the country. In addition, when the tow truck dropped my vehicle off at the GMC dealership, after reading the engine codes the dealership found 18 active engine codes. I feel as if this is a possible known issue and I should have been informed when purchasing the vehicle. I kindly request your assistance in addressing this matter. I urge GMC to investigate the extent of this defect and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all affected vehicles and their drivers. Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter. Please let me know how GMC plans to proceed. I am available to provide additional information or documentation if needed.
While driving, a fire started inside the vehicle between the rear passenger side seat belt and the rear window. My daughters were in the back seat and started screaming. I immediately stopped the vehicle and ran to put the fire out by smothering and throwing water on it. There was zero warning. . . No lights or warning messages. No major injuries occurred (only small minor burns to my right hand). I then brought the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased. I was told it was a known issue, and I was prompted to file a claim with my insurance company. Someone from the insurance company, along with the service department at the dealership, inspected the vehicle. Insurance has agreed to cover the parts damaged but not replace the part(s) that actually caused the fire. The dealership will address the actual problem, but only if I pay for the repairs ($1100-1500 estimated cost).

Where to begin. . . As I bought my first truck, literally within 10 days after buying the GMC Canyon 2024, the car is shaking uncontrollably on the highway. . . 35 mph max speed, extremely dangerous situation, 8 am on a busy watterson expressway in louisville, ky. I was so scared I was going to crash and potentially get hurt or worse. They told me "they had never seen this happen to a Canyon before" which is obviously a lie. The car was serviced for 21 calendar days, and now my lights are spotty and I can't drive my car at night. I got this truck [xxx]. There was no communication on when it was to be ready. There are issues with a lot of minor things as well like the navigation systems. I have logged every call with the dealership, courtesy Buick GMC in louisville as well as summarized every point of contact, and with very spotty responses and the manager, frank, wont respond to my emails and was extremely uncooperative as I asked to trade it in as I was genuinely concerned about my safety and he told me absolutely not. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2018 GMC Canyon. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to remove the key fob from the ignition, and the key fob was stuck with no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the parking was engaged but the contact was not able to remove the key fob. The contact had to restart the vehicle and shift into different gears multiple times to remove the key fob. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shift assembly failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,500.

Vehicle was brought in 5/18/24 for check engine light dealer eventually found broken wire in headliner on right side dealer repaired wire and I picked up vehicle 5/22/24. Vehicle was brought in 7/29/24 for park assist code dealer found short in wire. Dealer stated that to fix wire would require taking cab and bed off frame. Dealer ran a new wire along frame to avoid fixing properly. Vehicle picked up 8/1/24. Vehicle brought in 9/10/24 for a variety of sensors activated. Dealer stated to me that anti-lock brake module was on national back order and not expected until 10/28/24. Ut was not safe to drive the vehicle, and they have had the vehicle from 9/10/24. Also, drivers power window module has to be replaced. This 2024 Canyon has been a problem. I have contacted gm and asked for a buyback of the vehicle which gm refused.
Headlights flicker constantly. While being extremely distracting and unsafe while driving, it also causes other driver to think I’m flashing them. This leads them to flashing their high beams at me when oncoming and pulling over to let me pass when in front of me. Also, after I complete a right turn, my left signal flashes 3-4 times. I brought it to the dealership and they said they suspect a “software glitch” but that gm hasn’t determined a cause or solution yet. It appears to affect models built in may/June 2024 and on. I was also told that the display screen in the truck can be/may become affected, which is the only way to control the lights in the vehicle. They could not provide me with a loaner or replacement and said to keep driving the vehicle as-is until gm can come up with a fix, despite repeatedly agreeing with how unsafe it is. I have filed a report with gm as well. I was told to “make noise and maybe they’d get it fixed sooner. ”.
Bought ‘24 Canyon one week ago. Vehicle headlights flicker a second at a time on their own. Flicker seems to happen once every 1-2 minutes. Flicker can cause confusion with other drivers and ignite road rage.
Safety issue: headlights and running lights flicker off and on every 1-2 minutes.
Loss of pwr steering assist-- stabil-trac indicator lights up on dash steering wheel extremely hard to turn. Confirmed by quirk Chevrolet in manchester,nh repair cost $2800.
The headlight assemblies randomly flicker, and occurs while driving and while parked. It includes the hid headlights and the led daytime running lights. The dealer has confirmed that the issue exists with this model vehicle; however, there is currently no fix.
This truck was purchased brand new on 6/21/24. Noticed lights are intermittently flickering (every 2-4 minutes) when driving at night on 8/17/24. We took vehicle in to dealership (jessup automotive) on 8/23/24 where is was purchased and work order stated, "engineering is aware of this concern and is working towards a resolution. It is no longer recommended to replace the headlamp assemblies as it has been found that the issue is present in the replacements currently stocked at cca. This pi will be updated when this direction changes. " other vehicles think you are blinking your lights at them. We took a video. Also, there are other vehicles of people having same issue on coloradofans. Com. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership. We are taking to another GMC to get second opinion. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms before the failure. Owners on the website mentioned that changing the headlight assembly worked. They stated change module or headlights did not work. This problem has been going on at least since since may 2024. We have paid $40,000 for a truck that we are worried about driving at night. Waiting for call back from GMC now who we called on August 23, 2024 in which they stated they would call back within two business day. I have video, however it won't attach.
Both headlights and daytime running lights flicker on and off while driving, at night this has proven dangerous for myself and oncoming drivers being flashed by me constantly. Bran new truck day 1.
The headlight assemblies has a random blinking, flashing, flicker, on/off problem. This causes people to think I am either flashing them or blinking my light at them. Major safety concern!! gm is aware of this issue and does not have a fix. I requested a different vehicle to drive until they fix this safety issue and was denied.
Key gets stuck in ignition when attempting to turn off vehicle. This leaves people stranded with their vehicles in hot/cold weather, dangerous areas, etc. . . Many people have been bypassing this problem by removing steering column and disconnecting a wire that allows the key to be released. But disconnection of said wire allows the key to be removed and shut off at any time, including driving down the highway at 70mph, serious safety hazard for driver and those on the road. Dealer has confirmed this issue and currently working on repairing my vehicle but it is a widespread issue with certain gm vehicles to include the Canyon, colorado, camaro, and equinox.
The headlights on the vehicle will flicker/ short out. This creates a high risk when operating the vehicle at night. Vehicle was brought into the dealer for service on 08/05/2024, was told there is no current solution for this problem at this time. No warning light on the dash.
On [xxx] at approximately 5:30p, I was driving normal highway speed when I saw what I thought was exhaust trailing behind. There were no dash warning lights, engine temperature showing normal range, car was performing normally. I pulled over to shoulder, turned off car, released the hood latch. My husband tried to open hood but it was too hot. We then realized it was smoke coming from under hood, not exhaust. Smoke began to come inside car through vents. I quickly exited the car, and within a minute the entire front end engine area was engulfed in flames. 911 was called, fire, police, highway patrol responded. Fortunately there was no injury to myself or husband. There was also concern of starting a brushfire risk here in socal, but it was all extinguished thoroughly. Truck was towed to al’s towing, 475 w vermont Ave, escondido CA 92025, ph 760-745-5933. A report has been filed with our insurance usaa, inspection by adjuster is pending. I also notified temecula GMC, where I purchased vehicle from, of the incident. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
