Headlight flicker, affects day time running light, low beam, high beam and possibly taillights. Lighter flicker off and on periodically about every 1-2 minutes consistently regardless of driving or parked, and regardless if the lights are switched on automatically or manually. Problem has been continuous since purchase of vehicle 1 month ago.

I noticed within a day or so of receiving my new 2024 GMC cayon that the headlights would randomly flicker. No specific pattern or time interval just random. When I was finally able to get the truck in to the dealership for service, they reviewed the issue and called me the following day to inform me that couldn't repair it. Seems that GMC is aware and they currently have no fix since all headlights they have in stock potentially have the same issue. It seems obvious to me that driving at night with headlights that will not stay on is a huge safety issue and needless to say I do not want to cause an accident or get cited for an issue the manufacturer has no repair for. Leaving my only vehicle parked at home till a fix is found is not an option either.
Headlights began flickering two days after purchase of vehicle. Infotainment screen that operates the headlights, as there is no physical headlight knobs or buttons, also malfunction and is inoperable. So I can not turn my headlights on or off, they're set to auto and I can not adjust it. Service department at my dealership has been able to replicate my issues and are trying to fix them, but parts availability is an issue. Gm has informed me that the parts are delayed with no eta of when they would be available. Issues with the headlights flickering could lead other drivers to think I'm flashing my lights at them as I'm telling them to go ahead and that could cause a wreck. Also with the flickering there is a chance that the lights could completely cut off or go out and if I'm driving at night that would be a very big issue. Especially since the infotainment screen that I need to operate the headlight functions is also inoperable. The infotainment screen is also on national backorder per gm. Gm documented with document id 6691954 "#pit6203: headlamp or drl flicker or flash (July 16, 2024) possible hazards include oncoming drivers being flashed from flicker. Oncoming drivers thinking they're being signaled by the flicker. Pedestrians or cyclists thinking the flash or flicker is signaling them to proceed and that vehicle operator will yield. Possible that headlamps will stay off when they flicker, rendering the driver unable to see during night driving.
The headlights flicker off and on every 30 seconds or so while driving or stationary. This occurs no matter what setting the headlight are in. Other drivers think I am flashing my lights at them and have responded negatively by brake checking me in traffic, flashing their high beams at me when oncoming etc. I am worried that the lights may flicker off and stay off while driving at night. The dealer has recreated the problem but still has no fix. My truck has been in the dealer's shop since mid July.
The headlights flicker, randomly turning off/on, hi low not sure but it’s definitely distracting and annoying to other drivers.
Headlights flicker off and back on again intermittently / other drivers on the road think you're flashing them / known issue publicly vehicle in dealership with no solution for over a month / no warning lights or codes to acknowledge.
Service power steering, drive with care warning comes on, vehicle looses all power steering. First time it happen was around November 2023. This will happen randomly, at various speeds, sometimes going straight, sometimes turning. Power steering will come back after a few minutes sometimes, a few times vehicle had to be turned off for a hour, but was out for over 3 days one time. During that incident we ran obd scanner, c0800 code was showing for power steering control module, recommended repair was the replace battery, even though the battery was good. We went ahead and replaced the battery anyways, issue was not immediately resolved but after running the truck for an hour and then going for a test drive power steering returned a mile down the road. That was around may 11th. Issue hadn’t returned until today, June 22nd where it’s went on and off a handful of time before totally loosing power steering for over 5 hours now. 2015 model years had an issue the power steering rack wiring, dealer said they assume it could be same issue. Connections to the steering rack where check and corrosion was found but they won’t fix because it’s not a recall even though it’s the same corrosion issue the 2015 models had.

Headlights frequently flickering. Flickering varies from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in between. Very random and unpredictable. Service department at the dealership was able to replicate the issue. They found a bulletin, pit6203 that said to replace the headlights, so they ordered new ones. After three weeks I called the dealer and they said gm cancelled the order because replacing the headlights did not resolve the issue. Headlights flickering has caused other drivers to flash their lights at me. Concerned that other drivers may see my lights flicker and assume I’m giving them to go ahead causing them to pull in front of me causing an accident. Additionally there is a concern my lights completely going out while driving.
Received a stabilitrck error and lost power steering and traction control while driving. This appears to be a common and dangerous issue with this model vehicle.

Headlights are flickering with no available fix to the issue.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that when applying the brake pedal, the steering wheel would begin shaking. The computer on the center council that displays information, had blacked out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the brake pads had failed. The dealer had completed a software update for the main computer however the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired due to the brake pads (part number 87850375) not being in production for repairs. The failure had become more persistent and now the brakes have failed. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part for the repair was unavailable even for purchase. The parts were on national backorder. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by the dealer and the manufacturer confirmed that the part was unavailable. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v133000 (electrical system, forward collision avoidance). The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the collision sensor lights flashed, and the brakes were applied inadvertently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,800.
The theft alarm has gone off five times since I purchased the vehicle in September, dealership has been noted and has been in there for it and still goes off. Display screen froze up and did not reset until I was done driving and the vehicle was turned off for a while. The crash detection light came on and vehicle stopped itself with nobody in front of me or anybody coming towards me. The dealership has had the car for two weeks now, and they say there’s still no fix for it.
Blind zone detection system and door latch system failures. The blind zone detection system is inconsistent and at times remains on with bright lights impairing the drivers ability to see at night. With this inconsistency the driver cannot rely on it properly detecting vehicles within the blind spot. Another known issue is the inability to put down windows with the drivers side door. The alert for this is to service the door latch system which typically comes on while driving the vehicle. This limits the driver being able to safely respond to traffic stops from emergency personnel as well as the ability to evacuate the vehicle through the window if necessary. The dealers that have reviewed these issues say they cannot replicate or fix them.
Complete loss of power steering and traction control while driving. Very difficult to make turns. Would have to pull off the road and restart vehicle to fix problem. I have not taken it to a service center. It has not been inspected. Warning lights for loss of stabilitrak do come on.
The truck smokes constantly, dash board faulty frame has a problem I suspect the engine head gasket is blown radio constantly needs adjusting seats look as if they may be separating from the floor terrible fuel consumption gear shift sticks and more and battery charging problem.
2 weeks ago I was driving on the highway doing 65 mile per hour and suddenly my truck started shaking and. Suddenly completely shut down lost power brakes stiffed and steering wheel as well. I safely pulled over to try to restart the vehicle and on my dash board light came on engine, tcm light and a light with a little car with hash marks called dealer the technician said it was a ecm. Problem and that am looking at a price of 7,000 dollars which is not in my budget reaching out to see if is maybe a manufacturing issue.

On all chevy / Canyon models 05 thru 12 there is an issue called "passlock" which prevents the vehicle from starting, it will leave you stranded. The failure is the ignition housing with the passlock sensor, not the actual key / tumbler, the part has to be replaced. The problem / failure is so common that you can "google" 2005 thru 2012 chevy colorado GMC Canyon passlock issue" and find the root and a how to fix / repair guides. I spent almost $600 at the GMC dealer, they found no error or trouble codes in either on board computer, I showed the service advisor the issue, online diagnosis and suggested the repair. This is so dam common it should be a defective part recall and all repairs and costs covered by gm / GMC.

During normal operations the truck will come to a complete stop. I turned off the abs and it still happens. It caused a major incident today while I was driving 50mph and it brought me to an abrupt stop on the highway. It’s happened many times but today the driver behind me avoided my truck by an inch. I was then followed y that driver for half a mile when I immediately exited the highway.
The wiring in most vehicles 2020 and newer are soy/ nut based product… which squirrels, rodents and other animals can’t resist and the wiring throughout the vehicle is being chewed this all makes all models all manufacturers… there is also problems with the 8 speed transmission that shutters and hard gear changing and the quick fix is to flush out and refill it with transmission fluid.

Blind spot warning system continues to illuminate when traveling on two lane roads with no objects in the blind spot(false positives). Especially the passenger side. I continue to be distracted while driving to check the mirror to see what is there, nothing. Then while traveling on multi-lane highways, both sides will sometimes not illuminate when there is a vehicle present in the blind spot. Both of these examples also happen more often after dusk or during dark/cloudy days. I have not taken into dealer yet for repairs but will soon. No system warning of malfunction on dash, just the false positive lights on side mirrors.
When placing the vehicle in reverse, the infotainment screen goes to full brightness on the reverse camera, making it difficult to see at night by lighting up the cabin causing interior reflections when trying to see out the windows at mirrors or behind the vehicle. There is no way to adjust the brightness setting. This is a pointless feature as the camera becomes the required visual point and is sometimes obscured by dirt or water so the driver is forced to fight the bright useless screen to see out the windows.
Emergency collison fault problem on the 2023 GMC Canyon failure date: 10/22/2023 driving approximately 45mph while car in front is approximately 50 yards ahead driving at a matched speed as my vehicle and without any prior warning the forward collision alert activated flashing red light on windshield and automatically applying full braking until the truck came to a complete abrupt stop in the center lane of rush hour traffic causing other drivers behind to swerve narrowly avoiding serious accident. I manually DE-activated the automatic braking but kept forward alert on until the truck could be brought to the dealership for diagnosis. Forward alert went off erroneously multiple times the following days without any rhyme or reason. Not until the final day before the scheduled service appointment did the system DE activate itself indicating an issue with the forward collision. Dealer now has vehicle in their possession and confirmed a fault issue. They are working with gm on a solution, but no luck yet.
Overly sensitive automatic emergency braking/pedestrian warning. System would alert with lights and audible warning for no reason driving at ~55mph. While turning around in a michigan left turn, system went off and brakes applied abruptly until I was at complete stop. No vehicles or persons were in front of me. There was a car following closely behind which almost hit me. Fast forward a few weeks later and now forward collision system inop light illuminated on dash and will not go off.
Blind spot monitor system continues to give false alerts when no vehicles, objects or other items within blind spot area. Warning light will sometimes stay on for many miles and will go off when I pass another vehicle then go back on when nothing in blind spot again (opposite of design). System will sometime not activate when vehicle is in blind spot. See video. Dealer and gm involved, had pit6103 performed, replaced all switches April 19, 2024 except for driver door. Issue seemed to improve but has returned and even worse that originally. This has become a safety concern for me as I will apply turn signal, look in mirror, over shoulder but then as I start to switch lanes, the mirror light will start blinking and alerting me there is something in blind spot when there isn't anything there. Causes me to abruptly swerve back into my original lane causing potential dangerous situation. Truck at dealer 12/10/2024 for same issue, dealer and gm tech service states vehicle operating as intended. Was told to either turn system off or live with it. I have multiple videos but unable to upload them here. Please contact me for more info.
Driving approximately 45mph while car in front is approximately 50 yards ahead driving at a matched speed as my vehicle and without any prior warning the forward collision alert activated flashing red light on windshield and automatically applying full braking until the truck came to a complete abrupt stop in the center lane of rush hour traffic causing other drivers behind to swerve narrowly avoiding serious accident. Had the cars been following closer or an 18 wheeler been behind me during this incident, the outcome could have been much worse. Most issues occurred while it was either raining or damp outside. Dealer now has vehicle in their possession and confirmed a faulty component that is on backorder with no date. Truck has had multiple other electrical issues since purchase 3 months ago. ~200 miles dealer replaced faulty hvac module. ~4500 miles forward collision alert as described above. Since day one there have also been issues with trailering harness intermittently not working causing trailer brakes to not function while towing. (yet to be diagnosed by dealer) lastly left turn signal would stick causing turn signal to stay on until manual deactivation. Dealer confirmed faulty turn signal and is in the process of replacing while it is in for service.
Stability track cameondoing 50mph transmission geared down motor shut down on and off yes it's available problem not found by dealer took to 2 different ones stability track comes on side lights stay on and off press brakes it shut down turn left it shut down motor running in park put in reverse shut down will drive and run sometimes but gets worse.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced several electrical failures and the vehicle would not start due to a faulty battery which had lost power. After the manufactures over the air electrical update was performed the vehicle began to experience several additional safety malfunctions which included the backup camera, door locks, brakes and power steering. The contact indicated that while driving approximately 5 mph the warning messages "power brake assist" and "power steering" had displayed and when pressing the brake pedal the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle would not immediately stop. Also, the steering wheel became stiffer to turn. The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer who indicated that the vehicle had experienced unknown electrical failures but no solutions were available. The manufacturer was also notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 2,500.
Unknown: power steering fail while driving. Making it a serious safety and dangerous hazard. Making steering almost impossible to turn the wheel and I have to pull off to the side of the road, park, turn the engine off, wait a few minutes and turn the key (engine) back on. Most times it will reset and I have power again and sometimes it doesn’t. This has happened many times and I have called GMC to see if there’s a recall but they said none. I have taken it to my local mechanic and he stated that it can be an electrical related issue and told me to take it to GMC dealer repair shop in the area.

I was traveling on a two lane highway, a semi in front of me and a truck behind me. A warning message popped up on my dash “service emissions system- 65 mi before 65mph max speed”. And within 5 seconds of that message popping up, the engine detuned itself. I pulled over as quick as I could, but I only made it partially out of the road before the engine shut down completely. I couldn’t start the vehicle again to get it the rest of the way out of the road. I was 40 miles from the nearest town on a Sunday. I had to turn on my flashers and sit outside the vehicle for 4 hours until a tow truck was able to come get me. Thankfully at the time of incident I was on a rural highway and I wasn’t hurt, but I could have been seriously injured haha this happened on the freeway or a road in the city. It then sat at the dealership for 3 months following this to get a diagnostic and repair.
My wife drives this vehicle. Ever since the 2021 recall "fix", we've been having intermittent issues with two errors; service stabilitrak light and loss of power steering in the truck. This poses major safety issues as my wife is not strong enough to drive without power steering. Once the vehicle is turned off, it resets and the other goes away, but comes back randomly while driving. Latest incident listed below. We've had it looked at multiple times just to have an inability to reproduce the issue at the dealership or shop, except for this most recent time. They said the fix that was done for the safety recall in 2021 didn't actually fix the issue, which was the steering rack needing replaced at $1600. It's unbelievable to think the gm will not actually fix a known safety issue across many colorados and Canyons (quick internet search will prove the vastness of the issue). As you can see from the uploaded recall letter, this is the exact issue that still has not been addressed with a fix. Whatever they did before did not fix it at all.
The central control screen goes through a rapid, seemingly random series of "ghost touch" control changes. It cannot be stopped or shut down. It often changes the language of all screens in the vehicle (I cannot read french), shifts the instrument panel screen from speedometer to any of a large number of random screens, changes rear camera settings or deactivates it, changes bluetooth and telephone settings, and any of dozens of other actions many of which have a direct and immediate impact on vehicle safety. It serves as a terrible driver distraction because the driver has to do whatever they can to keep the screen from making unsafe changes to the vehicle settings. The driver's attention is divided between whatever the screen is doing and what is happening on the road.

Within past year, 2022 to present vehicle will on average 4-5 times a month fail to start. Key in ignition, to accessory mode than fail to turn over. All indicator lamps on dash display. Door chime sounds. Nothing to indicate a problem. Had GMC dealership troubleshoot. They found no codes and vehicle would start fine for them (of course). New battery had been installed, starter was tested, fuel injectors cleaned. My online research has found a similar problem with multiple year GMC vehicles beginning in 2009 thru 2014. Ignition lock cylinder issue due to pass lock sensor. Passlock sensor malfunctions thus requiring a 10 minute wait prior to restarting vehicle. A vehicle requiring 10 minute wait time is a safety issue if we needed this vehicle in an emergency. It's my understanding GMC is aware of this issue but considers it a nuisance and not a critical issue. My thoughts are its a safety issue they"re aware of but don"t care.
Purchased this vehicle brand new and paid extra for nav and a backup camera as I am a disabled veteran! currently have 32000 miles or so as I don't drive that much. No other lights or warnings came up before the following happened. Recently the radio stopped playing and the infotainment system went blank. It occasionally pops up a screen that says waiting on update, other than that it stays blank most of the time. The backup camera comes on intermittently but not always when backing up, maybe 1 out of every 5 times. Also the bluetooth went dead since this all started. As a disabled vet I depend on the backup camera and built in navigation so this is an issue! called the dealer and 3 other radio and entertainment car stores and they stated this is a know issue and would cost around $1000 to $1200 to replace the hmi 2. 5 module behind the dash which is the known issue. Looking online this is a well known and common issue and GMC has bulletins to diagnose but no free or discounted replacement or repair, even though it's all over the internet that GMC and chevy infotainment centers have issues. There is a class action lawsuit going on due to this issue as well. I'm sure there are others that just haven't complained and should be fixed by the dealer.
While driving my 2015 GMC Canyon my power steering service light goes on and I have no power steering making difficult and dangerous to control my vehicle. Also, at the same a service stabilitrak light goes on. I'm aware of a recall for this problem as been issued for 2015 GMC trucks but so reason my truck is not included in this recall even though I am experiencing the same problems for which the recall was issued. I have taken my vehicle to a GMC service center and am satisfied with their findings. I feel this is a dangerous situation as my steering goes out without warning which could lead to a crash. I think my vehicle should be included in this recall and repaired with no cost to myself.
