36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2010

2003 GMC Envoy speedometer quit working cost 550. 00 to replace and after reading online all GMC Envoys of this year have the same problem why has this not been recalled. I feel this is very serious.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2010

My vehicle was making a jet like sound on start up and while driving and eventually the check engine light came on. It also was making a clicking sound from the electronic heating unit. I took it in to a certified GMC dealer and they said the clutch fan needed to be replaced (expensive repair). Could not tell where the clicking was coming from at the time (1/6/11 clicking will not stop - ended up being a door actuator). I did some research on these problem and they are very common in these vehicle. I called GMC customer service to make a complaint because at a little over 59000 miles these parts should not have gone bad. I wish GMC would consider a recall on this problem as well as other major things.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

Hi, I am driving a 2003 GMC Envoy. I bought new back in 2003 within the last 2 months the tachometer and speedometer has not been working properly. I called a local dealer they told me no recalls for the 2003 GMC Envoy. I checked on- line it seems its a problem with gm SUV's and pick-ups . The recall is for other gm models and makes but not the GMC Envoy that is not fair to me and others who own the same vehicle model as I do. Could you please look into this I have noway knowing how fast I am going it could be a safety hazard. Thank you. I hope you can help me and other gm GMC Envoy owners.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

Speedometer started displaying incorrect mph. While driving between 55-60 mph, speedometer displayed 110mph and has continued to today. When vehicle is in park or even when vehicle is turned off, the speedometer needle shows 60mph. GMC has recalls for other makes, not ours. I googled this information, turns out thousands others are having the same problem. I contacted gm for assistance, was told my model was not covered under the recall and there was nothing to be done. The repair will cost $600-800. If this is a known issue, why isn't there an attempt to repair this problem. Please assist.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

2003 GMC Envoy had speedometer needle move to 120 mph and would not register proper speed on highway. Once parked, cycling the engine (on/off/on/off) caused the needle to return to zero while parked. This has happened twice (Dec 18, 2009 and Feb 4, 2010). The speedometer does not operate smoothly but rather increases or decreases in 1 mph increments in a 'jerky motion'. . . This must be a safety issue on this vehicle.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2009

Dash indicator lights come on, then goes off. This problem occurs even while driving and the vehicle is warm. This is a scary thing not knowing if the air bag is going to shoot out while you are driving. My kids drive this Envoy xl, and to think that they may get hurt not by another driver but by the vehicle they are driving. This is like russian roulette. Do someone have to get hurt before you fix this.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2009

Malfunctioning of instrument cluster diagnosed by dealer.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2009

While driving the Envoy the speedometer stopped working properly, nothing I did would reset it. So I took it to the dealer and $650. 00 later it was fixed.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

2003 GMC Envoy. About 6 months ago my speedometer started going haywire. I was either going less than 0 miles and hour or over 120 miles and hour, depending on the day. It seemed to have fixed itself and started working again for a while. Now it is back to acting erratic and I never, ever know how fast I'm going. I am even more upset now that I have seen so many complaints on here about the same thing. This is obviously a recall situation that needs to be handled by GMC. I now have to pay several hundred dollars to fix something that should be a recall.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2009

Within the last 4 or 5 months, the speedometer on our 2003 Envoy will display erratic and incorrect speeds. When the vehicle is first started up the speedometer seems to register correctly. After 20 minutes or more the needle will begin to stick or stutter. Within 30 minutes the speedometer will register 90 mph with an actual road speed of 60 to 65 mph. Today it eventually pegged the needle at 120 mph+. At a complete stop, with the engine off and key out of the switch, the speedometer registered 60 mph. We are making contact with our local GMC dealer to see what repairs will be involved. Based on several internet forum sites and chat boards, this is not an uncommon problem. It also appears that gm has not issued a recall for this problem. They evidently do not see this as a safety problem or potential safety problem. Our Envoy has less than 67,000 miles on the odometer.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2008

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact noticed that the speedometer in his vehicle would register higher speeds than what was actually being driven. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the speedometer went all the way past the highest speed indicator after driving for 30 minutes. When the contact parked the vehicle, the speedometer displayed 70 mph. The dealer and manufacturer have not been notified. The VIN was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 81,000 and failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Motors that run the guages in my 2003 GMC Envoy have failed. These control the fuel, amp, temp guages. This is a known issue for the motors and other guage clusters that use them in other gm vehicles are currently recalled for the same issue. I have not corrected the issue and still have the defective parts.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

I own a 2003 GMC Envoy and the speedometer acts erratically, and is never correct. I've researched it and there is not a recall on it, and from other internet users messages on sites, there are a lot of gm vehicles that are having this problem!! I don't personally have the money to get it fixed, that and I don't think it should be my problem to have to pay for it either, gm put a bad part in the vehicles so I think they should have to recall whatever is wrong with the speedometer. Thank you for your time.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

The tachometer started acting erratically showing surges in the engine rpm. This problem came and went and now, February 2009, the speedometer is doing the same thing. I was doing 90 mph while the vehicle was turned off. I see this is a problem on gm vehicles and they are not addressing it. They are leaving it to the owner to pay a dealer $600 or more for repairs.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2008

GMC Envoy 2003 speedometer is erratic and does not function at all on occasion.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

I was driving down the highway and all of my instrument panel gauges stopped working and the indicator lights came on for the entire system. This problem continues to happen and GMC will not fix this problem. They say I have too many miles and that my vehicle is not part of the recall. This now continues to happen and the whole electric system is in failure, I can't start the vehicle now and this is 2013. Chronic ongoing problem that poses major safety issues with speed, fuel and much more.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Speedometer on my 03' Envoy sticks, it says I am going like 60 when I just cranked the car. Once you turn off the car the speedometer still reads the top speed you were going. This is horrible, I have been doing research and alot of people have this problem!! GMC needs to recall this fault and have it replaced!.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2007

Malfunctioning of instrument cluster as described by the dealership. Speedometer displays inaccurate speed, other readings on panel flip-flop also. Advised by the service advisor that this was a noted defect with GMC and they had already started repairing larger GMC's and should get around to mine later in 2008. Yesterday, GMC informed me of a special policy issued for the problem, but only for sierras and yukons (7yrs 70,00 miles). GMC told me they were never notified of the problem with the Envoy's. I only have 56,000 miles on this car (first owner). Now the a/c has gone of by itself twice this month and the preset stations have vanished.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

Speedometer does not work anymore. I can be sitting at a stop light and the speedo will be pegged at 120mph. Or when driving it wont move at all. Sometimes. . . I'll start the car, and the speed will be sitting at 40 mph. Has been happening off and on since November 2007. The dealership & customer assistance (800-462-8782) will not help me. They tell me I have to buy a whole new instrument cluster ($475+) to resolve my problem. This is a very common issue with the full size vehicles (2003 and up). Gm has issued special coverage adjustment #07187 ( 9/28/2007) to replace , free of charge, this bad cluster but won"t fix the same problem in their smaller SUV"s.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2007

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. While driving at any speed, the speedometer would constantly move up and down and display inaccurate speeds. When the vehicle is turned off, the speedometer would stay anywhere between 30-40 mph. The vehicle was previously serviced by the dealer, but it has not recently been diagnosed. The current mileage was 173,607 and failure mileage was 100,000.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2007

The side-mirrors, particularly on the driver's side, moved to different positions even with all curb parking features disabled. The happened with almost every use. 2. The speedometer gave false readings and for no particular reason or speed. It may be pegged at 120 while at idle. It will randomly reset or fail frequently.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact stated that the rear passenger side door would not latch. The latches for both driver side doors were previously replaced. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v494000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch) for the Envoy xl. The failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 102,000. Updated 01/11/08. The front door latch are not starting to fail. The windshield wiper motor failed. The pinion seal was leaking and the taillight circuit board shorted out.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2005

The contact stated while driving, the reduce power engine and oil pressure low, check engine ights illuminated. The vehicle stopped, although, the enginewas still running. The dealership was unable to diagnose a problem, but replaced the tank gasket, gas pedal, and computer chip. This caused the contact to rear end another vehicle.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

All the electrical components go crazy. Speed-ometer works when it wants to just like the battery oil gas and temp gauge. The ac and heater have a mind of their own as well. Along with all the lights. Some times they work sometimes they dont.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

Safety problem regarding control of driver's rear view mirror on 2003 GMC Envoy. There had been a strange combination of electrical events centered around the accessories in the left front of the vehicle and the left door mirror. Other problems: the seat would move erratically when starting and shutting down, the driver's side door did not lock in sync with the others, the locks would click 4 times after driving one mile, and the control button lights on the drivers arm rest was coming off.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

Every time you exit the vehicle and close the door or touch any thing that is metal after exiting the car you get shocked. . . . Sparks fly. I am concerned that someday I will be pumping gas and one of my children is going to get out of the car and touch something and spark an explosion or fire.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2003

Engine stalling with vehicle in motion or when stopped. 5 stalls occurred within past 1000 miles. Sometimes vehicle, chugs/skips just before stalling. Vehicle has been serviced 3 times for this problem since October 27th and still not corrected as of this writing. Usual stall speed is around 20 mph. One time was driving at 65 mph on interstate, all dashboard warning lights came on vehicle hesitated but did not stall. Cruise control always stops working immediately following stalling incidents. Has stalled upon stopping at stop light/sign. Vehicle has had many electrical problems since approximately 800 miles including windshield washer system failure (twice), abs light illuminating, airbag light.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2003

The 2003 Envoy we purchased gave us numerous problems, including a number of the ones other owners mentioned here, like the glass liftgate that does not operate properly, various electrical problems, but especially the outside rear view mirrors that move on their own no matter how many times they were supposedly fixed by service technicians. They do not stay in the position we set them in, and the fuel tank leaking is very dangerous as well as inhaling freon because of malfunctioning a/c system. Why is GMC doing nothing to solve these problems? I can't understand how they are getting away with this seeing that so many owners are having the same problems. What do we have to do to get some help?.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2003

Purchased a 2003 Envoy xl on 27 Dec 02 - since that time it has been to the garage two times - no clamp on one end of the power steering line (luckily it blew off while still in our drive way - god help us if it had let loose at high speed on a crowded highway) second time was for a bad cam sensor. And we haven't made the first payment yet. First cass number from GMC is s1-68773551 - second case number I don't have yet as I just reported it this morning. Needless to say that my wife and I have no trust in this car now - what else will go wrong next.
