GMC Envoy owners have reported 52 problems related to automatic transmission (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Drove vehicle as normal without warning and after I stopped (shutdown the vehicle and restarted it) there was no reverse gear or forward gear. Vehicle was towed to the dealer where I was later told that the reverse gear had blown apart. Damaged parts were replaced and transmission was flushed and refilled. I'm concerned now because the vehicle is out of warranty and it is sluggish or slipping when it makes a 1st to 2nd shift. Will it require additional transmission work in the near future and huge $$ to repair?.

1. Engine will shut off when making a hard turn: after stopped at a stop sign, I was trying to make a hard turn (steering wheel reached the maximum turning angle) when the engine suddenly shut off itself. It happened three times either tuning left or right (today), but always after stopping and with a hard turning angle. It is such a huge safety defect with all the cars infront and behind you. No repair action has been taken. The problem may be reproduced. 2. Turning signals not working after emergency lights used: it happened two times. Turning signal lights (left or right) will not work correctly after the emergency lights were in use; instead both left and right turning lights will flash at the same time. It can be reproduced. No repair action taken yet. 3. Difficult turning at a hard turn with 4-wheel-drive is it is almost impossible to make a hard turn when the 4-whell-drive is on. It happens every time. No repair action taken yet.

I own a 2004 Envoy xl with a v-8 motor. I have complained to the dealer, who states they can't find a problem, that the transmission jerks extremely bad when it changes into 2nd gear and then again when it shifts into drive. I have been told by other Envoy owners that they have actually had their transmissions replaced, and one friend had even had his vehicle exchanged under the lemon law. The dealer had virtually done nothing to correct the problem. Other dealers in my area don't want to mess with the vehicle, and it only has 6500 miles on it. I'm beginning to believe that I've been stuck with a lemon.
While driving and approaching a stop for a red light, there was a very loud crashing sound from under the vehicle. The vehicle was no longer able to drive in 1st gear or reverse. The vehicle was able to propel itself in 'd', but was very sluggish as if trying to start driving a manual transmission in 2nd or 3rd gear. While the vehicle was in neutral it would still propel itself when the accelerator was depressed. It was no longer able to be moved manually by pushing, it would only move when driven forward or when the rear wheels where lifted off the ground when it was towed. The dealer has recommended a new transmission.
When contact comes to a yield sign transmission jerks before going into gear. Later he was told this was a brake problem. When approaching a hill/downhill and applying brakes they lock and car slides. Dozens of times check brake, service 4 wheel drive lights have come on. Contact has taken vehicle to dealer over 12 times since it has been purchased. Due service lights, brakes and transmission. Consistently told by dealer that nothing is wrong. But dealer aknowledges check brake lights have come on. Dealer states that if computer diagnostic does not produce an error code, then there is nothing they can do.
Vehicle shifted gears without applying the brakes.
I own a GMC Envoy xl. The transmission will not hold the car on an incline. In drive, the car will accelerate backwards down a hill.
I have had multiple electrical and transmission problems with my 2002 GMC Envoy. Yesterday my family and I were driving on interstate 80, while on cruise control, the SUV shut off. I barely was able to get to the side of the road. I almost hit a vehicle getting off the highway since I lost power steering. After 15 minutes of not starting, it finally started. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they couldnt find anything. I have written many letters and tried to convince GMC that this SUV is not safe.
My 2002 Envoy exhibits the same symptoms as my previous GMC jimmy. It has a hesitation on acceleration that fails to shift from 1-2 properly. This only occurs when the car is cold and only for a mile or two. However , it causes severe loss of power and acceleration capability. Obviously other people have this problem but it does not appear that there is a solution. It always works by the time it gets to the dealer, of course.
Complaint is for 2002 GMC Envoy. On three occasions, this truck stalled out while in motion, the last time at 55 mph on an interstate highway. On three occasions, the transmission in this vehicle switched, of its own accord, from 2 wd to 4 wd (low) nearly casusing accidents on two occasions. I listed the most recent occurrences of these problems below.
Transmission does not work properly. Have had it repaired twice, but still vibrates, and fails to move vehicle forward at times, from a dead stop. Is very dangerous at intersections where moving quickly is imperative. Also wiring problems which operate various remote instruments (mirrors, seats, etc. ) fear of fire. Rear door latch was replaced - clicks "locked/unlocked" while driving. Seats move on their own while driving.
Transmission on cold start stays in first gear. Left rear brake appear to have hung up and is burning. Dt.
All these problems come and go, somtimes depending on the outside temperature. Some of it got fixed and came back again. The major problems are that the vehicle shuts down without any warning - no engine no electric nothing-, so its even not possible to call on star! the other thing is that the transmission start to shift gears while driving on a leveled raod at consistant speed. All this items got fixed and come back after a while. Dt.
10234, door trim comes off; 17660, hinge hood rattles; 26510, idler arm had to be replaced; 44938, pinion seals & power steering seals were leaking; 56785, cd player had to be replaced; 72375, transmission went out; 95819, computer had to be replaced; 106169, right headlamp had to be replaced (for almost $800!!!); and sporadic incidences of different dash lights coming on & staying on. Obviously, all of these problems weren't on the date listed below, but that's the date of the first one.
