Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The key fob, used to unlock the car, will not unlock the driver side door. I can hear a clicking noise like the latch is trying to disengage, but it will not. The remedy for this is to leave the window open in order to press the unlock button inside the car or to wait and continuously press the unlock button the key fob (the latch inside the door will eventually unlock the car).

42 Body problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

After six months having purchased this used vehicle from a local dealer, I noticed that the driver's door was not working properly, nor were the power window devices, controls, power locks and also the visibility of driver's rear window. I noticed that the door would overheat and sometimes I can smell an odor similar to when something is burning. I have taken the vehicle to a mechanic and finding the solution to the problem has been difficult. On June 2013, I read on the msn website that the GMC Envoys for 2006 and 2007 were being recalled (recall #13v248000) in regards to driver's master power window switch. Since I am having this same problem, with my 2003 Envoy, I called GMC and explained to her that I am having that same issue with my 2003 Envoy. She indicated that GMC would pay for the diagnostic fee labor even though my car's mileage was not under warranty and that the recall was only for 2006 & 2007 Envoys. She connected me to keisha kennedy for an appt. With balise the following day. She assigned a case number 71-1219059371. The following day, August 28, 2013, I went to my appointment at 11 am. And left my car. About an hour later, I get a call from GMC indicating to me that she was sorry, but that GMC could not cover the cost of diagnostic fee labor. I said, "that is not what you told me yesterday" and she replied, "I am sorry, I was not authorized to tell you that". I said to her, "I wouldn't have taken time off from work, ask for a ride, be without transporation if you had told me that before". I also said to her, "how can you tell me you are covering the cost yesterday and today change your mind". All she responded was, "I am sorry". I asked to speak to her supervisor by the name of michelle and the supervisor just said that her employee was not authorized to say to me that GMC would cover the cost. I still have the same safety issue.

49 Body problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

After unlocking and using the rear window glass multiple times daily, and twice earlier today, it exploded on the way up. This occured within the first 1 inch of travel swinging up and rearward from being closed with very minimal manual force applied. The temperature today is 27deg. F , which is not the coldest use this vehicle has seen. There has not been any previous damage to the rear glass or gate, or anything in the rear of the vehicle. I write this at the advice of many online forum posts and complaints that I read through. I am hoping there is some time devoted by general motors to finding a solution to this. I just had to ride home with wife and 4 kids shivering because of this. There seem to be hundreds of these spontaneous occurances happening in all types of climates and conditions, which is what convinced me I need to share my incident to fuel the cause. Thank god everyone is ok. It was cold and my kids had their hoods up and were looking down when this happened. This could have been much worse.

50 Body problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 12/28/2011

The rear windshield of my 2005 GMC Envoy xl exploded for no apparent reason today. I lifted the full hatch (not just the window section) to place items in the back that I had purchased at home depot. I placed a can of paint, one bag, and a bag of sand in the back - nothing that was near the glass of the hatch. I then closed the hatch with enough force for it to close securely, but not with excessive force. As I walked to the driver side door to enter the car, I heard a loud pop that I thought was someone hitting the back of my car with their vehicle. As I walked around to the back, my rear window was shattered into a million tiny pieces. There were no objects or people around the window close enough to break it - it just shattered for no reason at all! the dealership says they have no record of issues with rear windshields, but I found information that differs on line. Fortunately, the deductible on my insurance is only $200. However, for others, I have seen where they have had to pay up to $1500 out of pocket for the expense because the dealership refuses to replace the window. The company that is coming to replace it said the window itself costs $937, not including the installation.

51 Body problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/29/2011

Left rear door flew open going around corner. Could not get the door to latch. Removed latch assembly and attempted to clean. Too much rust and corrosion. Some of the debris looks like it came from the striker. Had same trouble with right rear door at 80,000 miles. Disassembled and cleaned. Works for a while. Some one going to fall out of one of these SUV's. Gm needs to step up and fix this problem.

52 Body problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 09/15/2008

My wife was in the process of closing the rear hatch on our 2003 Envoy xl (80,000 miles) after removing some articles from the back. She had moved the door about 1-2 inches downward using the molded handle on the bottom of the lift gate to close the door when the rear glass shattered over her head. Luckily she was not injured but was covered in safety glass. The glass was not damaged yesterday when I drove the vehicle and unloaded suitcases from the rear. Ambient temperature was about 70 degrees. I did notice that the rear brake light assembly is now angled upwards in the 'gate raised' position, even after closing the hatch. Also noticed the top, right side rubber grommet on the stamped bracket attaching the glass is very worn, allowing significant movement. I plan on taking the vehicle to a dealer to determine root cause if possible and will have the glass and all touch points replaced if possible. I have no confidence that this will not happen again if there is a design interference issue with the glass and the surrounding components that happens over time. There appear to be numerous cases on the automotive forums website regarding Envoy xl rear hatch glass shattering for no apparent reason (some multiple occurrences). I am surprised more complaints have not been registered to NHTSA officially (only found one-10081011). It is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt. I have been a brake engineer for 10+ years and take safety very seriously.

57 Body problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 10/26/2005

Electronic problem with 4wd was supposedly corrected in 2004, transfer case for 4wd was replaced in April 2005, and 4wd failed again during first day trying to use it during icy conditions after it was "repaired" in April. Had to drive on dangerous, slick roads without 4wd from fairbanks to palmer, ak. This is a major safety issue in alaska where winter driving can be very hazardous without 4wd. Have had it into dealer several times for loud squeak under vehicle when making turns or going over bumps at slow speeds. No corrective action by dealer. Could not get vehicle out of "park". Had to have it towed to dealership. They disconnected something and told me to be careful because whatever they did would allow the vehicle to be put into "drive" without having brakes engaged! had to drive it this way for several weeks until they got replacement part. Have had other problems with climate control, wind noise around windows, and more. None repaired satisfactorily.

62 Body problem of the 2002 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/20/2001

Engine non-start problems -- waiting 15-20 minutes seems to correct. Wandering side view mirrors. Rubbing noise when turning tightly. Driver's side door movement noise when turning over bumps. Side mirror air noise. The 1st. Two (2) problems have been ongoing, and the most concerning, since the vehicle was purchased new in 2001. It has been in for repairs to two (2) GMC dealers numerous times, and an ignition recall repair was done and the dealer assumed it would correct the non-start problem. It did until yesterday. More importantly however, shortly after this vehicle was purchased, GMC's owner assistance help has been sought for these (2) problems assuming they may inform the dealer of engineering fixes, but to no avail.
