1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2003 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 01/19/2011

The contact owns a 2003 GMC Envoy. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph applying pressure to the brake pedal when the vehicle became difficult to stop and the brakes would exhibit an abnormal whooshing sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact that there was a leak in the master cylinder and the power brake booster. The technician replaced the power brake booster and the master cylinder. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2008 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 07/20/2010

While on our way back to our motor home the brake pedal on my 2008 GMC Envoy went to the floor when I tried to stop in heavy traffic on hwy 503 in the state of washington. After pumping the brake quickly I was able to regain some braking power. When I called the local GMC dealer (carr GMC) in vancouver the service adviser confirmed that it was the master cylinder. Now this happened on Tuesday July 20, 2010, the service adviser gave me an appointment for Thursday July 22 between 9:00 to 9:30 am. I arrived at 9:10 am and was told that it would take 2-1/2 to 3 hours to diagnose the problem. Now this was the same person that told me on the phone two day prior that I had a bad master cylinder. Now I just drove this car 48 miles with the brakes not working properly. The dealer did not have a master cylinder in stock and was having one overnighted in from lancing, mi and would call me when it was repaired. Now I don't know of how many other vehicles this has happened too, but having a master cylinder fail on a car that has only 31,000 miles on it is not good and a real safety issue.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2004 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 05/08/2006

: the contact stated intermittently the vehicle coasts through intersections while the brake pedal is depressed. Also, the brake pedal has collapsed to the floor on other occasions. In addition, the abs activates on dry pavement. When the vehicle was taken to the dealership for the abs, they replaced the control valve which caused the brake pedal to have more movement. The master cylinder was also replaced, but this did not remedy the problem. The contact feels it should be a recall issue. Wisconsin state attorney general is working to get wisconsin included in 14 state recall list. Updated on 06/01/2006.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2005 GMC Envoy

Failure Date: 08/02/2005

In August 2005 on a trip, exiting off ramp brake pedal went all the way to the floor, was able to "pump" it and get response. After shutting vehicle off, setting & restart brake pedal again goes all the way to floor. Upon return to dealership master cylinder was replaced. A few months later brake pedal becomes extremely "spongy" with no stopping power. Dealership bled brakes and said problem was air in system. Still no improvement, extremely soft pedal and unit will not panic stop. Took back to dealership end of June 2006 and they replaced master cylinder a second time. Unit is still no better and in my opinion unsafe to drive if it will not panic stop. Dealership says gm has told them to order more parts, but do not know what the problem is.
