The contact owns a 2003 GMC Savana. The contact stated that when applying the brakes at speeds of at least 50 mph, the anti-lock brake would engage, forcing the petal back into the idle position and causing reduced braking response. The contact confirmed that the anti-lock braking light would illuminate on the instrument panel moments before the failure would occur. The failure mileage was 37,000 and the current mileage was 50,000. The VIN was not available. Updated 05/19/10.

The consumer stated while driving the 2000 GMC savanna vehicle experienced d the same problems as mentioned in recall 05v00500. While parking the van, coming back, and then putting it I into the reverse the power steering assist failed. Also, had brake problems. Had to allow extra space in between cars for the van to stop. Consumer called gm, and checked on the recalls , and was informed this vehicle was not included in the recall. Consumer only put on 1,500 miles on the van since purchasing it. The van was preowned and was equipped with handicap accessibility. The dealership was called, they found recalls, and t referred consumer to gm. The owner has not has this repaired. The brakes has also had problems. The brakes operated poorly, and could not get vehicle to stop. The mechanic determined that there was nothing wrong with the brakes.

Consumer had vehicle serviced 8 times. Each time rotors/brakes, and drums were repaired. Mechanic stated the shoes did not fit the drums. . Gm has technical reference dated 09/01/1999 tha thas them putting some part on. Every time they take it in to the shop it comes out with the same resukts. Consumer's deduction was the same as the mechanic, that the part is not sized rightly.
I had to make a "panic stop". I pushed the brake pedal as hard as possible. Felt the vehicle shudder several times and felt what I assumed was the abs brakes cycling, then the vehicle just rolled forward. . . No braking at all was felt, resulting in a rear-end collision. I know that if I had properly functioning brakes, I would have stopped in a safe distance. When I felt the deceleration stop, I pushed even harder on the pedal, with absolutely no change in velocity and no more room for the pedal to move. There was at least 15 between vehiclesat this point,&. . I could /should have stopped safely, with no collision if the brakes had worked properly!.

Consumer was traveling at 10mph while pulling out of the drive way. Then, consumer was applying brakes, and vehicle suddenly started to accelerate, gained speed before hitting two trees.
Van pulls to left on med. To hard stops, twice over center line of road, rotors are warped, rear brakes will not self adjust as they are supposed to do, excessive front pad wear.
When brakes were applied under normal stopping conditions pedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance, and resulting in a collision. Prior to incident dealer inspected vehicle.
While braking front brakes made noise and vehicle would not stop properly. Upon visual inspection brake pad had separated from backing plate and disintegrated.
Brakes are ineffective and consistent noise in steering system. Near misses.
Consumer was traveling about 20mph in good weather conditions and pressed on brakes & the abs brakes didn't work. Left front & right rear locked up. GMC was aware of problem and will investigate more.
When applying brakes during an emergency stop abs releases too much, and will not stop vehicle. Also, when accelerating from a stop brakes tend to stay locked for a short period of time, then release. Van has been taken to dealership twice for this problem. Dealership has not been successful in fixing the problem. Please list other vehicle identification numbers.
The brakes went all the way to the floor and could not stop the vehicle. Yh.
While driving vehicle, left wheel started to grab after applying abs brakes. Would make clunking sounds. Stopping distance is effective by abs brake problem. Is intermittent. Been to dealer numerous times & problem with abs brakes not corrected.
When foot is removed from accelerator pedal to decelerate, it takes approximately ten seconds or more before vehicle starts to slow down. Speed plays no factor in deceleration. When brakes are applied, pedal goes to floor. Taken vehicle to dealer & mechanic refused to write up problem until representative drove vehicle.
When brakes are applied pedal feels normal, but abs system does not kick in as it should, causing a loss of brakes. Extremely soft brake pedal, goes almost to the floor. Brakes must be pumped several times to achieve enough brake to slow dowm or stop. Gm rep will not authorize any further warranty brake service. Dealer has been contacted.
In snowy conditions the vehicle's defective abs system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance which almost caused an accident. Dealer cannot determine problem.
When putting foot on the brake pedal to stop the truck it pulls to the right. The braking system has been changed 3 times, also the steering pulls to the right and it has been aligned 4 times.

When applying the brakes, the abs brakes would experience an intermittent problem. This would cause a longer stopping distance for the vehicle.
Poor abs brake performance during normal braking, the pedal goes to the floor.
When depressing brake pedal rear brakes would grab. When consumer released the brakes vehicle would travel like brakes were still applied, causing vehicle to surge. Dealer has been notified. Consumer states that the manufacturer suggested to the dealer to disconnect the rear brake adjuster and was told that all the rear brakes were over adjusting, consumer states since the removal, the brakes still grab and stay partially on after the brake pedal has been released, dealer stated that the vehicle is supposed to respond like that because it was designed to have a load in it.
Brake pedal keeps squeaking. Dealer has replaced pedal. But, within 1000 miles noise will come back.
1. Rear adjustment spring was not installed in vehicle from factory, causing brakes to become spongy. 2. Transmission has become faulty wihtin 42,000.
When making a normal stop vehicle was very hard to stop, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer contacted dealer, dealer determined the cause to be oil leaking onto the brakes. Also, dealer has replaced the drums and put new oil seals in axles. . Et.
Advising of need to investigate premature anti-lock brake activation on front wheels under following condition - below 20-30 mph light pedal application on "rippled" potholed paved road as in coming to stop sign on heavily traveled road. Either front wheel hitting bump activates abs which then shuts down that wheel then complete brake system (leaves no code) for 1-2 seconds & has led to inability to stop by appropriate place at intersection and what I would term several near accidents. This happens I repeat under light pedal application on front wheels at slow speeds with no load in truck bed with one adult & single passenger usuually my 9 yr old son. Can consistently duplicate if needed for demonstration. Dealer has been unable to answer other then "that is normal".
