Eight problems related to brake foundation components have been reported for the 1997 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving at any speed and without warning, the brake pedal would stall. Then, seep to the floor. Dealer replaced hubs on the front two brakes to remedy the problem. The left front door was inoperative from the inside. The right wheel cylinder was leaking. Dealer replaced hub assembly. Dealer removed and replaced the brake pads, also resurfaced rotors.
Everytime the brakes are pressed a noise is heard and it continues to go for a distance even though the brakes are on.
The consumer state's there is a leakage within the hydro- booster and the master cylinder which causes while driving at any speed and applying the brakes, the vehicle is pulling to the right. Ak.
Consumer has experienced many problems with brakes, a grinding noise was heard in the right front wheel and dealer replaced the brake shoe kit and stated that front brakes were doing all the work, 3 months later a whining noise was heard from the front of vehicle, dealer could not find any problems, in January of 2000 more front noise was heard and dealer installed cylinder, valve kit, drum assembly, spring kit, pin kit, and shoe kit, brakes also caused vehicle to pull to the left, 12-08-00, caliper kit and pad kit were installed and 7 days later all brake fluid was lost because of a faulty caliper kit, dealer replaced a seal which had cracked.
Vehicle wears out brake pads because the caliper to knuckle clearance was insuffieicent.
Consumer states that the brakes pull to the right, dealer states the problem is the oversized tires causing the abs to react wrong, consumer thinks this is incorrect due to disconnection of the abs and the same problems existing, new hoses, calipers, pads, and rotors have been replaced.
Brake system does not respond very quickly/fading. Mjs.
Brakes experience intermittent failures, unable to identify problem.
